  1. Note to Farrell for tomorrow's game and the rest of the season. XB is a good player and developing into a star, but he is not the #3 hitter on this team. Ortiz is in a groove and he and Hanley are the 3/4 or 4/3 hitters on this club. Ortiz batted lead off 3 times today. That can't happen. If XB didn't get the 2 out infield hit with the bases loaded in the 7th inning I was going to storm the dugout and strangle Farrell. Stop with the stupid lineup. You are losing runs for your team.
  2. it would have taken a very good play. Your manager outsmarted himself by taking Nova out with only 86 pitches. Other than Ortiz and Hanley, he tore through our lineup and was still throwing well. I realize that Betts had taken him for a double in the prior plate appearance, but in 5 ABs against Warren, Betts had 2 doubles. Now he has 2 doubles and a triple. When he took out Nova, I was grateful and felt that we would blow it open and we were one Hanley swing from blowing the doors off. Stupid managers never cease to amaze me.
  3. we knew "Good Buch" was on borrowed time.
  4. The staff is constructed with # 4's and 5's with an injury prone inconsistent #3. That had a low probability of success.
  5. Napoli needs to go. You can't even count on him to just strike out. When he make contact, he cost us 2 outs.
  6. thanks. They are taking the field.
  7. Who are these 3 or 4 starters?
  8. Have they scheduled a start for him or will he be the long man tonight?
  9. Now that is a guy that the fans should be seeing. He is on another level that only a select few occupy. Fans of American League teams don't get to see him very much. He is the type of player that the All Star game is meant to showcase. This game is not about the Brock Holts. I feel great for Brock making the squad, but shows a startling lack of star power on the Red Sox.
  10. the reasoning was faulty, because performing as expected this would have been a 4 ERA staff-- that is the track record over the career of the group. If they had performed as expected putting up a 4 ERA they would have been a 3rd or 4th place team. The pitchers have underperformed and they are a last place team. What he designed was a staff that if it performed up to expectations would not have gotten this team to the playoffs.
  11. Nova vs ER At the game mojo.
  12. Who is arguing that bogaerts shouldn't be going. I m not getting this phantom debate. Was he snubbed!? Yes, but every year there are snubs, and this isn't the biggest one.
  13. it is time for Napoli to go. He is killing us on both sides of the ball. He can't catch anything cleanly this year. Pedey has saved him from a number of additional errors and home town scoring has spared him from others. Let him go catch up on years of lost sleep. Adios!
  14. usually he gets injured in June. This year he waited until the second week of July. I guess his durability is improving. We knew that "Good Buch" had a limited expiration dates. Expecting a good full season from him just was not reasonable. We might see him again in September in garbage time. In the mean time Miley moves up to being our number 2. We desperately need pitching.
  15. homers sell. That's what people want to see. When it comes to pitchers they want to see guys with put away stuff, not sinkerballers. That's just the way it is. Power hitters make the big bucks and so do power pitchers. Again, I didn't say that he wasn't deserving of being on the team. I never said that. He's a middle infielder without much thump. The Red Sox have a history of sending big hitters to the game. When XB gets up to bat, the fans will take a bathroom break. But feel free to tell me that he is good and deserving of making the team even though I have agreed with that numerous times -- that he and his 3 homers deserved to make the squad.
  16. 1970's? And until ARod, Nomar, Jeter, and Ripken started playing SS no one cared who played SS. People go to see the thumpers not the fielders. Again, I am not saying that XB is not deserving. I am saying that we have no marquee hitters and that is why Holt is going to the game. I am used to the Red Sox having marquee hitters and that has been the history of the Red Sox. Our representative usually has more than 2 home runs. That is the point that I am making-- not that XB is not good enough.
  17. Without adding pitching, imo they are at best a 4th place team. They don't have enough pitching to win consistently and the hitting will likely have another slump in mid August in the dog days. Pitching will have to win games then and we don't have enough. I do agree with you that we need to add top line pitching for next season, so why not add it now and give this team a shot.
  18. You can't eat all of your crops. You have to sell some to pay for the tractor and other equipment. There are always crops to sell, whether it is a good crop or bad crop. The next year there will be another crop. In the meantime the major league team is in disrepair going for an unbelievable 3rd last place finish in 4 seasons.
  19. It is a shallow field at SS this year. No one is having a big time year. If anyone got overlooked from our team, it was Bogaerts. That being said, Iglesias went as the starter. He is the better defender, and XB's bat isn't big enough to warrant him making the team as a back up. The point that I was making is that we always had stars that performed like stars who people wanted to see play. XB is a star in the making, not a star yet. He's very good, but not the kind of player yet that people tune into the All Star game to see. He just isn't. This team has old stars (Ortiz and Pedroia), not performing like a stars currently, and other guys emerging but not yet stars. I am used to Red Sox rosters full of stars that the fans wanted to see. I am not in a pissing contest about whether XB is a good player or anyone else. Yes, he is a good player. He is not an All Star yet. All Stars have 800 + OPSes or they field like Ozzie Smith. AL Shortstops suck this year, and no one cares who is in that spot.
  20. How many last place finishes will it take for us to realize that there wasn't a lot of crops on our farm?
  21. Yes, they are good players and they would have been deserving reserves, but neither has performed at the level of can't miss All Star starters.
  22. Ben's job is on the line. I'd prefer to get Hamels, but Amaro has been very difficult in negotiations. We will probably get Kazmir, because he will have the lowest price, but he is a big TJ risk.
  23. I disagree. Throughout the years, the Red Sox have had players who were undeniably All Star starters. This season we don't have that. Your explanation is a rationalization. None of our stars have played well enough to merit being an All Star starter. Yes, some have played well enough to merit being named as reserves (including Buchholz), but none have played well enough that leaving them off would have been a snub. Our utility guy being our representative speaks volumes that our everyday players are not doing very well.
  24. Ortiz at 39 yrs old and never a full time player should not be run out to 1B more than twice a week.
  25. I like Brock. He can play anywhere on the field and do it very well, but it speaks volumes about our roster that our utility guy is our representative at the All Star Game.
