  1. So , it is a bad team in your opinion as currently constituted?
  2. Does this mean they will be buying?
  3. Oh, it would be a bad team in first place. Would that have continued for the entire season in your opinion?
  4. Wow! I couldn't disagree more emphatically. Without regard to the performance of the offense in May, this would still be a bad team, maybe not a last place team, but not a playoff contending team.
  5. I agree completely with this.
  6. And you believe that without the bad offensive performance in May this would not be a bad team? Is that your point?
  7. you were the one that brought up their ages in reference to Lynn and Rice. If not to compare them, then what was the purpose of mentioning it?
  8. some years we were the 3rd best behind the Yankees and Baltimore. We hit better than them, but we could not match their pitching or fielding. I'm the 1950's we finished 4th most of the time-- a few times we managed to finish 3rd.
  9. A rotation with no #1 or 2 and one #3 is a terrible rotation even if the other 4 guys are just fine #4's and 5s.
  10. I shake my head when peoiple who never saw the Big Red Machine post that they were just offense. That team could do it on both sides of the ball. They had Geronimo, Concepcion, Morgan and Bench. The best up the middle D of its day.
  11. By the current age of Betts and Bogaerts, Rice was challenging Lynn for the league MVP. Lynn, the MVP and Rookie of the Year was 1 year older than Betts and XB are now. Lynn made it to the majors at age 22. Rice was 21-- same as Betts. XB made it at 20.
  12. Tiant was signed as a Free Agent after having been released by the Twins and the Braves.
  13. But he will argue that Porcello is a number 1/2 justifying his $82 million. Yes, Porcello is a #2 -- the kind that you scape off your shoe.
  14. Just ask the Boston Red Sox of the 1950's and 1970's who could thump with the best teams in history, but couldn't pitch or play D.
  15. But it is not silly for you to make that decision here, basing your opinion on a 1 month offensive slump?
  16. N I honestly don't know what point you are trying to make. Did the offense slump in May? Yes. I am not going to argue against the obvious. If they hadn't slumped, maybe they would be closer in the standings. I would agree with saying maybe to that. We can't say for sure because any conclusion would have to ignore the dynamics of the game. Okay. So what point are you making if I concede these points? That this is really a good team? Because it is not and the atrocious pitching would have doomed them anyway. So please tell me the point that you are trying to make so that I can agree or disagree and we can both move on. I am sure that you are quite certain that you are making an important point, but it is escaping me.
  17. Over the course of the season, the 4.25 ERA (if they had performed to career norms) would have knocked us out of contention early. You study the stats. You know that. Sorry, but you are cherry picking, and I disgree with your premise. If the offense had been better in May, in the end this still would have been a last place team, because of the pitching. It's all opinion. Neither of us has proved anything, but I am pretty sure that it will be the pitching that will be getting upgraded on this team (either this year or next year) not the offense. That will show what the FO thinks is the problem.
  18. I see a bright future for you in motivational speaking.
  19. They need to fire Ben and change the directive.
  20. I am usually the one saying it, while being told by people like you that it is "just April" . Every game counts, but to blame one aspect of the team in one month for its failure is cherry picking squared. The Mets June offense has been worse than our May offense, but it's pitching stepped up and won many close games. Sorry, but the offense is not the weak leak of the 2015 team. It is the pitching. It stinks. It is dead last. No offense can support that for a whole season.
  21. The difference is that Betances always posted big strike out numbers at every level. Unbelievable strike out numbers. That hasn't been Matt Barnes. He is Craig Hansen.
  22. last year, Ben gave away 80 percent of the starting rotation. I'd like to say traded, but I am still trying to figure out what we got in return. If he would do that, he will certainly trade away a 40 year old reliever.
  23. It is time for the Red Sox to give Matt Barnes the Craig Hansen award and ship him out of town.
  24. I yep, I don't expect they will be going after Greinke in the off season because he is 32. He may be the best pitcher in baseball for my money. The guy is total precision. He is starting to remind me of Maddux. I realize that the directive came from above about free agents over 30. Nevertheless, Bwn still screwed the pooch in a major way, and the owners and Luchinno will not fire themselves.
  25. Agreed, unless they decide to be buyers, which is unlikely, because Ben has his head too far up his ass to know how to get this team back on track. This season is salvageable. And without "sacrificing the future", but this guy is clueless.
