  1. If Buch could stay healthy and pitch well for the rest of the season, after a hopefully short stint on the DL, they should trade him on the off season. He's not worth it at almost any price because of his complete inconsistency and his injury pronenes. You never can count on the guy for more than half of a season and when he pitched almost an entire season with 28 starts on 2014, he was terrible. He is a major reason for 2013. He jump started our season coming out of the gate at 11-0 and his ERA was microscopic, but you can't roll the dice of fate each season on him and his health.
  2. I shake my head at people who think Ortiz is a problem for this team. He will finish with close to 30 homers and 90 rbi. Guys like that are not the problem. It's the pitching stupid!
  3. I think Ben needs to do something big for the team to escape the cellar again. Also, his job is on the line imo. He needs to escape the cellar if he wants to remain employed in baseball. It will take a couple of pitching moves to make this team a serious contender, but one arm might be enough to lift it from the basement. I don't know if Ben has what it takes to build a staff and I would be shocked if he could rebuild a staff on the fly. We know that he can dismantle a staff. Lol! I am also not sure that he has enoiugh confidence of his management anymore for them to sign off on any big deals.
  4. Cincinnati thought about making him a starter for a while.
  5. We are supposedly interested in Jason Frasor. Should I get excited about this?
  6. Channeling your Inner Anglophile!
  7. you should probably help TS members negotiate their car purchases.
  8. s*** is just fine. And very descriptive. Lol!
  9. The problem for Ben is that he is going to have to explain why things have gone so wrong, and the "this was highly unusual or completely unexpected" excuse will not cut it with his employer. They are just excuses by a guy who has built noncompetitive teams 3 out of 4 seasons. It is just a bunch of excuses and whining. Call the whaambulence!
  10. And Buch going down was not just foreseeable, it was highly probable.
  11. Thank you for clearing all of of that up for me in a single post. I disagree with you that this team as currently constituted could win the division even if it played up to expectations. We clearly had a different set of expectations for this team -- in particular the starting pitching. My expectation for this staff was a 4.25 ERA because that had been the track record of this collection of starters (Buch, Porcello, Masterson, Miley and Kelly). A rotation with a 4.25 ERA can't cut it in today's game over a 162 game schedule and compete for a playoff spot. What I don't understand is the distinction between a bad team and a team playing badly other than on limited basis for limited stretches of games. A team that plays badly for an entire year is just a bad team.
  12. Bathing and showering while wearing a shirt would be difficult.
  13. Also, with Vasquez and Swihart, one of them gets blocked out by the other in our organization. I don't see either one as backup catchers.
  14. No, the broken down Bedard traded to us by Seattle.
  15. I don't see Ben being able to implement any sophisticated or complicated strategy at this time. I am looking for an Erik Bedard type acquisition-- nothing more.
  16. Anything beats a seminar where the A/V equipment doesn't work.
  17. You can't stay in first place over 162 games if you are a bad team, imo. That being said, we are still close enough in the standings that if we make some moves to improve this team we could still make a run at making the playoffs. If we don't make any moves to improve what imo is a bad team, we will not be competitive in September whether or not the offense slumped in May.
  18. Insults hurled at me. MVP's preferred reading. LOL!!
  19. ^Can't read what he is saying, but does he have his "Dutchy" up?
  20. Kimmi, I am really struggling to understand your point of view. Here is what I am processing. I am not putting words in your mouth, but I am having trouble following your argument. You are saying that this is a bad team, but that it should be in first place but for the poor offense in May. You also beleive that the pitching is poor, but good enough for this team to be in first place but for poor offensive support in May. If that is a correct summary of your views, I have a couple of questions. If we were currently in first place, because the offense hit in May and we won some more games, do you think this "bad team" as currently constituted could win the division over the full season? If not, what would you change about it to keep it competitive? Lastly, don't you think that there have been some games over the first half of the season where the pitching s*** the bed and lost games where the offense produced ample runs?
  21. Kimmi, you know that I have Dicks-N-Cycles on ignore to reduce conflict on this board. You could have said this without quoting his personal insult of me. I don't appreciate that, and this is not the first time that I have asked you to not do that. And Dicks-N-Cycles, with regard to your personal insult to my intelligence, I am quite sure that your little pea brain could fit quite comfortably in one of the folds in my massive grey matter with plenty of room to spare and your brain wouldn't even be detected on a catscan. So go f*** yourself and get lost. I have this jackass on ignore (a feature of the site meant to reduce conflict), but yet he continues to potshot me. I don't think this is the way it is supposed to work.
  22. My prior post #559 in this thread was badly in need of clarification. I have edited it accordingly. http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/17286-Who-is-the-Biggest-Problem-Right-Now?p=963345&viewfull=1#post963345
  23. LOL!!! There is that disappointed feeling when the 4 pm deadline passes and you just hope that the announcements are late.
  24. It seems that whenever he is separated from his binky Farrell his performance suffers. He isn't doing bad, but wins are tough to come by for him.
  25. The flaw in the logic of some people is that if this bad team somehow had found itself in first place at the All Star Break (by incredible timing and luck), the FO would have made pitching acquisitions at the trading deadline for the stretch run. IMO, the FO would have had a much different reaction. They would have convinced themselves that their strategy was working and that the pitching was good enough. They would have just let ride it until it inevitably blew up in the second half.
