Great post. I think Orsillo and Remy clown when the game is boring beyond years. When it merits our attention, they are on top of the game in a professional manner. It is unfair to compare any announcer to Vin Scully. He is incomparable. No one has his depth of experience and relatable stories. He is a baseball treasure.

If DD can get them some pitching and they can field a competitve team, that will go a long way toward solving the other problems. Of course, the eggheads in the FO will think that the NESN ratings are up because they got rid of Orsillo and not because they are playing good competitve baseball.

My goodness, Allen Craig has $21 million left on his contract. Another complete waste. When Ben made bad moves, they really were almost completely indefensible. It's not like Craig turned bad after we got him. He had already crashed and burned.

The article was chock full of good reasons not to have Hanley transition to left field. One that even surprised me was:

I had never read, heard or seen any hint of a feud or tension between Orsillo and Remy. Not only was their on air chemistry good but the genuinely seemed to enjoy working together. I have gone to Spring Training for the last 12 years and many times I have seen Remy and Orsillo exiting the ballpark together. That is not the behavior or 2 people who dislike each other. I have seen both of them interact with the fans on many occasions. What I have observed is that Orsillo is pleasant with fans even when getting into his car to leave the ballpark. He takes the time to be courteous with the fans and he is in good humor with a smile indicating to me that his affable personality is not just an on air persona. i will miss them doing the games together. They are always such a pleasant listen even when the team sucks and that is no easy feat. When one of them has been absent from the booth, the games are just not the same. I like O'Brien on radio. He is an excellent announcer, but it will take a while for me not too miss Jerry and Don's banter.

Terrible move. Any rationale for signing him was woefully wrong.

He is not just a poor fielder. He is atrocious-- the worst fielder in the game at any position.

It caught my attention when I heard it; which is why I remember it. I would also chalk it up to hyperbole, except that I heard it on a Ref Sox radio broadcast and they don't usually engage in hyperbole. I would also think earned runs would be the standard by which to judge a start, but they were clearly pointing to one factor -- getting batters out versus putting them on base. In that regard, I have no reason to doubt their research that it was the worst effort since 1923 or before by a Red Sox pitcher.

Orsillo and Remy are very informative and entertaining even when the games are boring and meaningless. I like Dave Obrien on the radio. I guess they think the problem is not with our roster. They just need a better propagandist. BTW, I noticed that 37,000 + fans were cramming into Fenway for the KC series. We have drawn more fans in last place than first place KC. Damn those reactionary fans filling the owners pockets as they continue to put out a garbage product! It is fear of the fans why Ben made all of those bad moves. They got rid of Orsillo. Remy needs to go next and then they need to attract a different fan base. That's what is wrong with this team -- the announcers and the fans.
