  1. I think you are right, but my faulty recollection is that it was a severe knee injury.
  2. I think he has has a few injury marred seasons recently. I think he has a bum shoulder.
  3. He is almost 2 years older than Ortiz.
  4. He's only 28. I expect that the hitting part of his game including his power production will improve to fill any void created by diminishing speed.
  5. I am not crazy about Maggs on a 2 year contract.
  6. As for Crawford's value, I think his offensive impact is being underrated as opposed to overrated. People almost dismissively refer to his speed as "flashy." I view it much differently. I think it is a rare and lethal weapon. He stole 47 bases last season (essentially turning singles into doubles and doubles into triples). If those additional bases were factored into his Slugging % and OPS, net of the times he was thrown out, his 2010 OPS would be .913 and .845 for his career. Those are damn good numbers and that doesn't even take into account the havoc that his speed together with Ellsbury would cause for defenses and the number of errors that would be forced. Crawford is an impact player-- not just a flashy toy.
  7. At Fenway there is no 7th inning stretch. There is a "7th Inning Flash. Each section designates the hottest girl in the section to flash their breasts as "Take me out to the Ballgame" is sung by the crowd. Hence, the record number of consecutive sell out crowds.
  8. I'm all for your suggested alternative, but if you don't think Lee is a shiny new toy, I certainly do. Are we going to get into a pissing contest as to which is shinier? Either one would have a big impact on Boston's future in a very positive way. On the topic of Beltran, I've told you guys that I know people working with the Mets. The are having huge $ trouble. They don't want talent in return for Beltran except to the extent that they have to placate the fan base. They want to dump his salary. I doubt they will be eating much, if any, of his salary. This is a 5 tool guy, who has regained his health and he will be playing for a new contract. Take the 1 year hit and take his salary and LF is no longer an issue.
  9. Reminder to the FO: Sign Carl Crawford!!! A lineup with Crawford and AGon would be all kinds of awesome. As for aging speedsters, Rickey Henderson stayed really good for a long time.
  10. Ah, but can you?
  11. I didn't know about his shoulder surgery until the trade had been announced. I had concerns about it immediately, before he got his physical. I asked whether it could affect his extension and power. Check the threads. I even made a joke that he was getting checked by the same doctor that checked Schilling's shoulder. I wouldn't want a damaged player. There are other options. Since everyone on this forum thinks they know what a700 thinks in every circumstance, was i supposed to say that I would have blamed Theo? You people need to spend more time trying to figure out yourselves instead of trying to figure me out. People that I have known for decades can't figure me out.
  12. I really, really really hope that our doctors gave his shoulder a thorough examination.
  13. Noooo, this guy is like 100 years old and he chokes every time he faces the Yankees. Let him play in some senior league.
  14. Would you like to hand Clay the ball instead of Burnett every 5th day?
  15. I was too confrontational trying to get you to put your money where your mouth. I admitted so the other day. As far as people jumping in, when they jump in to call me an idiot or a jerk or make some other characterization about me because I disagree with an organizational move or offer an opinion about the negotiating skills in the FO, I do shake my head. I find it strange that people will engage in personal insults with a real person over criticisms of public figures in sports.
  16. No long standing member is the subject of more name-calling than me on this forum. I criticize players and management alike. Tito gets plenty of criticism from me, and he is my all-time favorite Red Sox manager. People tend to remember criticisms of the heroes and idols, and they resent it. They need to get over it and realize that their heroes and idols are public figures and their decisions will get scrutinized. It has nothing to do with like or dislike.
  17. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2010/12/07/a-look-at-the-red-sox-interest-in-outfielders-carl-crawford-matt-diaz-josh-willingham/
  18. The Yankees are vowing not to go beyond 6 years. Expect a 10 year deal with them.
  19. Sounds like a winner to me. With those move, the Sox not only close the gap on the Yankees, but IMO they would blow their doors off.
  20. Honestly, I don't even know what you are driving at. Does it have to do with the Red Sox or the Adrian Gonzalez move, or does this have something to do with your opinion of me? If it has to do with discussing the Red Sox or trades, I'm happy to discuss. If it has something to do with your opinion of me, I really don't care what you think. I'll keep my opinion of you to myself. This is a Red Sox forum.
