  1. This day just gets stranger and stranger
  2. The Press Conference tomorrow will be must see TV.
  3. So who do you think they should get for LF? Kalish? As the options dwindle, anyone for Manny?
  4. by the Jays or the Brewers?
  5. Buzz meter today was off the charts. I wonder which ideas Tomase will steal from TalkSox for tomorrow's column.
  6. You are in Kamp Kalish?
  7. I don't think we should be guessing at things as serious as this type of condemnation. It took baseball way too long to integrate, but even the slowest teams to integrate did so faster than the rest of the country. A strong argument can be made that baseball was less racist than the rest of society.
  8. Willingham scares me. He could be Hermida-Part II the right handed sequel.
  9. Youk could play the OF better than Nady. Nady is a hack in the field.
  10. Out of that group, I'd pick Maggs.
  11. Until it is announced, we're just guessing. Hopefully, it has been worked out. I'm happily looking forward to seeing him play in 2011. Now that Werth is off the board, is there any interest at all in signing Beltre and moving Youk to LF? Me personally, I still want Crawford.
  12. It's a mob type mentality where the accused has no opportunity to refute horrible accusations. It makes me uncomfortable, because it makes me see how easily people are willing to jump on such terrible condemnations of people and believe them as fact and embellish and exaggerate the accusations. If people want to bring up Hitler, this is how the "blame it on the Jews [or substitute any other group] " mentality can take root.
  13. Racism in baseball was institutionalized. That is a fact. The Yankees were the second to last team to integrate. Does that make them bigger racists than the rest? You picked out one guy and said he was worse than the rest, when the fact is that the Red Sox were a small part of his fortune. He basically was an absentee owner throughout the 50's as he devoted his attentions to his other businesses and drinking. His drinking buddies (basically old ballplayers like Joe Cronin) were left with the keys to the team. Was he worse than the rest? You are no one to make that judgment. He certainly should not be mentioned in a sentence with Hitler.
  14. I got the positives. I'll be very happy to watch Agon in 2011. I also think that AGon's agent played a room full of Red Sox brass like a fiddle. Good for him. I can appreciate that too. My advice to the FO would be to not underestimate this agent and give into his demands now, because I think AGon's value could go up as he plays in Fenway. If he comes to Fenway and dominates, his agent will make the most of it.
  15. It has been a circus? Yesterday, I never would have predicted the roller coaster events of today.
  16. Anyone want to change their vote to Crawford?
  17. This is the type of baseless opinion that bothers me. Yawkey never met Mays nor did he make a decision to not sign him. Yawkey's biggest documented personal failing was that he was a huge drunk. There are misconceptions about his southern roots etc,. when the fact is that he grew up on Park Avenue in NY in a very politically liberal atmosphere. His parents and other caretakers tragically died when he was a child. He was turned over to the care of his irresponsible alcoholic uncle who purchased the Detroit Tigers. Yawkey spent the rest of his young formative years in Detroit-- another place far from the south. His uncle croaked on him too, and he was looked after by Ty Cobb, of all people, until Cobb almost beat him to death in a drunken frenzy. People think they know a lot about Yawkey, but they don't, so they shouldn't offer opinions condemning him
