  1. It's meaningless to me whether Big Ben is a figure head. If Lucchino can right the ship, let him pull the strings.
  2. And once Theo became independent, he did not do well.
  3. I thought Wallace was a very good pitching coach. Bowa worries me. He wears out his welcome even faster than Bobby V. Bowa had talented teams in Philly but they never performed for him.
  4. The draft spending wasn't really a competitive advantage anymore. Other teams, notably the Yankees, were following suit and doing the same thing as the Red Sox.
  5. A few weeks ago when a few of us pointed out that the Red Sox were in disarray, we got ridiculed. When I said that they had to turn things around quickly, because they had crossed over into laughingstock status, people said that I was over reacting. From today's Boston Globe. In the first line the Red Sox are called a doofus organization. He also points out that the compensation from the Cubs should have been settled before permission was granted to talk to Theo. The Sox have no leverage now.
  6. An article critical of the Red Sox managerial hiring process. I guess it is not just me, IOrtiz, and SCM that have been critical of this process:
  7. We disagree on several players and prospective moves, but he does it without being insulting or trying to prove me wrong, so people don't notice. On the big issues like business accountability etc. we have been in agreement, and we have been right in every instance, not some, not most, but every instance. Iortiz is too humble to tell you that.
  8. It's like you said, LL's job is on the line. Big Ben will likely be micromanaged as a result.
  9. From Tomase's article in the Herald posted a little while ago. It says what some of the posters here have been saying about the FO's apparent lack of faith in Big Ben.
  10. It was the first article that I found about Theo in the biggest newspaper in Chicago. It was just quite different from the fawning articles that we read in the Boston tabloids (they don't deserve to be called newspapers). I enjoyed the writers style. It was blunt, sarcastic and irreverent. BTW: Didn't Theo make enough money to shop at the better Boston clothing stores to get nice suits?
  11. Iortiz, they are trying to drive a wedge between us.
  12. I can't speak as to why others posted about Theo today, but i posted the article, because I had heard that Theo was being treated like royalty in Chicago. I decided to check the Chicago papers, and I have to say that I was surprised that he is not exactly being fawned over. I thought it was noteworthy on a slow news day.
  13. Not cool. :thumbdown
  14. It seems clear that Theo has to deal with at least one independent minded sports writer to in Chicago, unlike the team directed media hacks in Boston, who spent a lot of time creating a myth about the Boy Wonder. The Chicago Press doesn't seem anxious to buy into the myth.
  15. From Wednesday's Chicago Tribune. It doesn't seem like Theo is being treated like a King by the Chicago Press. It doesn't seem like he's getting much of a honeymoon:
  16. But they probably don't make as much money off the field.
  17. I don't think the fans obsessiveness overcomes the aspect that most players like about Boston-- the place is full every night and there is a buzz of energy in the ballpark. I don't think they really concern themselves with the fans beyond that no matter what city they play in. I have no idea why you seem so concerned about modifying fan behavior. Maybe you should draft the guidelines for the fans?:dunno: For me different strokes for different folks. I could careless if I am sitting next to a guy in pinstripe suit with glasses or some guy with Sox logos painted on his face. Everyone is just there to enjoy the game. The only time the players notice is if there is a hot girl in the stands. Otherwise, we all just blend into the woodwork for them.
  18. Should we ask the FO to issue guidelines on how to be a good fan-- passionate but not obsessive? The FO and the Players loves us if we fill their pockets.
  19. He didn't have a very high opinion of Matsuzaka before we won the posting. He said from the beginning that he was the back of the rotation starter and that he didn't throw as hard as rumored. He might be good to get a scouting report on Japanese players, and they probably should have sought him out before they went for $102 million on Dice K. I doubt that he has any inroads with Japanese players.
