    Bard IMO is the best choice for closer at this point. These bums and retreads mentioned in the article should not be considered for the closer job and they would scare me as the 8th inning guy. At this point, I am inclined to go with Aceves for the 8th and take the huge step down in performance from what we have enjoyed for the last couple of years in the 8th inning. Maybe Jenks loses a 100 lbs by spring training so he's only overweight by 50 lbs and he can give some quality late innings. As for Lidge, Nathan, and Broxton, I have very little no more faith in them than I do in Jenks.

    From today's Herald. The highlighted portion scares me: Nathan, Lidge or Broxton? The late innings will be real cliffhangers if these are our options. Broxton flat out sucks. He lost his confidence and he has been a repeat visitor to the DL. He's Eric Gagne --Part II. Lidge will keep the cardiac care centers filled to capacity in Boston during the baseball season. Joe Nathan is damaged goods-- straight from the dumpster.

    I would trade Ellsbury for Verlander, but probably not any other pitcher. Verlander really had a break out year. What an arm!

    6 years $90 million is not a bad deal. I still think he will get more. Ben continues to sit with thumb firmly planted in his ass. We have no manager, coaching staff and still no compensation from the Cubs.

    I guess my recollection about the discussion was mistaken. I had remembered being challenged on the seriousness of the Mets financial condition. Maybe it was another poster. You say that you have been igmoring me and I certainly have not engaged you. Yet, you took this opportunity to take a few unsolicited swipes at me. That's not in the spirit of not engaging with me. In fact, under the rules of the forum, it is considered baiting.

    I wish the FO would just man up one of these times and state that the guy was not in their plans. They let Damon take a beating from the fans and be booed mercilessly for years, when the truth be told, they didn't want him. This case is even worse. They never presented Papelbon with any offer, nor did they make any effort to communicate to him that they were interested in keeping him.

    I can only have it one way-- either I am right or I am wrong. The same goes for Ben. If we are both wrong, my being wrong doesn't cancel out his mistake. He would still be wrong. You know the old saying about "two wrongs..." Unfortunately for Ben, he has to answer to JH. Still not sure I get your point. Shrugs.
