  1. I'd still be really giddy. Castro is a very talented player. He would be our SS for 10 yrs.
  2. My point addresses the people who are pointing to 2004 to show that this process takes some time. In 2004, the team was already in place. The manager was one of the last pieces and that decision hinged on whether they wee able to get Schilling. Right now, we have other major holes. They need to get the managerial decision out of the way so it is not an obstacle to filling the roster holes.
  3. In 2004 when we went into December in our manager search, we didn't need 2 starting pitchers and a right fielder too.
  4. The jays have Adam Lind who plays 1B and LF poorly. He's a DH candidate. Edwin Encarnacion is a horror show with the glove. If they keep him, he'll see a lot of time at DH. I can't see the jays as a fit for Ortiz.
  5. One thing is for sure. Valentine will school the fundamentals even on the older guys. He knows the finer points of the game. His problem is that he grates on people and quickly outlives his welcome.
  6. It has been finalized. Next step is Theo sends Sveum to the Red Sox as compensation.
  7. Midgets wearing bow ties belong in the circus.
  8. I don't disagree. As far as Dice K being ahead of schedule, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that line in 45 years, I'd have at least 45 dollars. I don't let that give me any hope. The last time they almost sucked me in with that was with John Smoltz. He was ahead of schedule, then he was on schedule, then he had a setback, but he did come back in time to humiliate himself and to help the Yankees solidify their grip on the division.
  9. My recollection is that the Tito hiring had a lot to do with Big Schill coming to Boston. Schill didn't agree to the trade until Thanksgiving. The Sox were probably waiting on his decision. If Schill said no, maybe they would have hired Maddon instead of Tito. Here there are no such considerations that have been made public.
  10. The ass-covering is always funny. Many of the fans believe it, but the MLB is a small incestuous community. News travels fast. MLB knows that these guys were fired/out of favor. The Cubs wanted Theo nonetheless. His soft spots will become evident soon enough in Chicago. He's lucky that the fans there just don't seem to be bothered by losing. Love Millar. The guy is a riot, and he has a good grasp on the behind the scenes stuff.
  11. I could live with this plan. I like KRod much better than Bell. KRod is still young. He should have 3 good years left in his arm. I like Buehrle a lot. He is very consistent and to have a 3.83 career ERA after all his innings is impressive especially pitching in the AL in a hitters park.
  12. It would be funny if after the Cubs introduce Sveum as their new manager that they offer him to us as compensation for Theo.
  13. If theydon't sign a big bullpen arm, I think Aceves will probably be slated for the 8th inning role, in which case he will be unavailable to start or spot start. This is the problem with Paps leaving. We talk about moving guys to different roles only to find that it creates another hole.
  14. :lol:I have to set the record straight. My comments are always balanced. It is your reading of them that is often unbalanced. I'm glad to see you are having a better day.
  15. Those were a couple of futures that could have been sacrificed for trading deadline acquisitions in past years. Their futures never came.
  16. Maybe Wendell Kim is available if the Red Sox are fixated on hiring a former third base coach.
  17. I don't think we can get him for short money.
  18. I am not in favor of this. Oswalt has been injury prone, and he can no longer go deep into games in the NL. The AL East would eat him up IMO.
  19. I like Aceves. He is very effective, but he is not a lock down guy like Bard who can come into a tough situation and blow away the middle of the order of the opposition.
  20. The most annoying and useless is Ken Rosenthal on the Fox games.
