  1. It has been finalized. Next step is Theo sends Sveum to the Red Sox as compensation.
  2. Midgets wearing bow ties belong in the circus.
  3. I don't disagree. As far as Dice K being ahead of schedule, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that line in 45 years, I'd have at least 45 dollars. I don't let that give me any hope. The last time they almost sucked me in with that was with John Smoltz. He was ahead of schedule, then he was on schedule, then he had a setback, but he did come back in time to humiliate himself and to help the Yankees solidify their grip on the division.
  4. My recollection is that the Tito hiring had a lot to do with Big Schill coming to Boston. Schill didn't agree to the trade until Thanksgiving. The Sox were probably waiting on his decision. If Schill said no, maybe they would have hired Maddon instead of Tito. Here there are no such considerations that have been made public.
  5. The ass-covering is always funny. Many of the fans believe it, but the MLB is a small incestuous community. News travels fast. MLB knows that these guys were fired/out of favor. The Cubs wanted Theo nonetheless. His soft spots will become evident soon enough in Chicago. He's lucky that the fans there just don't seem to be bothered by losing. Love Millar. The guy is a riot, and he has a good grasp on the behind the scenes stuff.
  6. I could live with this plan. I like KRod much better than Bell. KRod is still young. He should have 3 good years left in his arm. I like Buehrle a lot. He is very consistent and to have a 3.83 career ERA after all his innings is impressive especially pitching in the AL in a hitters park.
  7. It would be funny if after the Cubs introduce Sveum as their new manager that they offer him to us as compensation for Theo.
  8. If theydon't sign a big bullpen arm, I think Aceves will probably be slated for the 8th inning role, in which case he will be unavailable to start or spot start. This is the problem with Paps leaving. We talk about moving guys to different roles only to find that it creates another hole.
  9. :lol:I have to set the record straight. My comments are always balanced. It is your reading of them that is often unbalanced. I'm glad to see you are having a better day.
  10. Those were a couple of futures that could have been sacrificed for trading deadline acquisitions in past years. Their futures never came.
  11. Maybe Wendell Kim is available if the Red Sox are fixated on hiring a former third base coach.
  12. I don't think we can get him for short money.
  13. I am not in favor of this. Oswalt has been injury prone, and he can no longer go deep into games in the NL. The AL East would eat him up IMO.
  14. I like Aceves. He is very effective, but he is not a lock down guy like Bard who can come into a tough situation and blow away the middle of the order of the opposition.
  15. The most annoying and useless is Ken Rosenthal on the Fox games.
  16. I've asked that about 10 times. If Bard steps in and is as good as Papelbon, we no longer lock down the 8th and 9th inning as we have in the past.
  17. I think it is legitimate to ask why the Cards have already hired a manager when LaRussa retired 3 weeks or more after Tito got fired. I don't think the Cardinals take it any less seriously. They are a top organization with 2 championships in the last 5 seasons.
  18. I'll be her co-star.
  19. Speaking for myself, it would be a shame if Wakefield kept playing. He will hurt his legacy and the teams prospects in 2012. Time to hang'em up Timmay. There's nothing left in the tank.
  20. I can understand that player moves take some time to develop in the off season. There are lots of considerations. The players need to gauge the market as well as the FO. Those negotiations can be prolonged. A team's plan has to be modified at times when other teams sign your targets. I also understand that Theo's compensation is taking a long time. We really have no leverage, and the Cubs have no motivation to make a deal when they can wait for gutless Selig to come in and award us a chicago dog and some ivy to plant on the green monster. I can't understand what is taking so long on the managerial front. LaRussa retired three weeksor more after Tito got fired, and the Cardinals already have a manger in place. There are few moving parts in this process. The pool is known. There is little or no negotiation as to salary. Do some interviews. Have an internal meeting or two or three and hire a manger. People get upset when I insult the intelligence of managers as a group, but joking aside they are for lack of a better term-- a fairly fungible group.
