  1. Attitudes can be adjusted, but you either have talent or you don't. Beckett has talent.
  2. ...and if Ortiz accepts the arbitration and hits 25-30 HRs with an .800 OPS, they'll have to decide again at the end of 2012 whether to offer him arbitration. If they offer the arbitration, they'll likely be locked in for another $13+ million for 2013. If they look to cut ties and don't offer the arbitration, they'll get no picks anyway. Getting picks is fine if you are offering arbitration to someone who doesn't have a limited market like Ortiz. If you offer arbitration to Ortiz, they had better be prepared to pay more than his inflated 2011 salary. I remember when they offered arbitration to Tony Graffinino hoping to get draft picks. No one wanted him, so they signed him to a 2 year contract and placed him on waivers in March 2006. He was claimed by KC. If Ortiz is feeling healthy, it's probably a good bet for him to accept the arbitration and roll the dice for 2013.
  3. In fairness to Lowrie, he has broken down when he starts playing full time. You are right. If he can't stay healthy in a part time role and be ready to play when needed, he's useless.
  4. More talk in today's papers about Bard starting. That would essentially leave us with no bullpen-- a train wreck. Hopefully Cherrington can build a better bullpen than Theo. Theo sucked with the pen. He was worse at that than with Free Agents. What was he good at? We have no major league ready talent in the minors. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?&articleid=1383958&format=&page=1&listingType=sox#articleFull
  5. When I disagree with IOrtiz about a player and i make a funny remark like "Lars-Land", he does the mature thing and he laughs at the funny crack and he disagrees. He doesn't do an hour of research of fangraphs etc. to try to prove me wrong. He understands that these are opinions. He might be right. I might be right. Who knows.
  6. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/red-sox-rays-have-checking-in-on-luis-ayala.html This will not help.
  7. Other than personality, I don't know. The difference in their personality shouldn't cause such a delay in the decision. There isn't a massive due diligence to be done. My Employer has decided to purchase major insurance companies in less time. There are two finalists. Take a vote and get it over with. The delay is ridiculous.
  8. He could be well on his way to Lars-Land-- a prospect with no chance of cracking the Red Sox lineup and no value to anyone else.
  9. Reddick's ceiling is not very high. They would trade him tomorrow in a package, but the other teams know that he is 25 and nothing special, so no one wants him. We really tend to over-inflate the value of our young players. He projects to be an average OFer at best. Kalisih has a higher ceiling. Other teams would want him.
  10. Lamont or Valentine... it isn't going to make much of a difference. Just make a decision have the press conference and get on with building the team.
  11. The Jays asked for a commitment from the Sox in advance. This highlights for me fact that the Red Sox did not do the same with the Cubs. The Sox were either sloppy and stupid, or maybe they were just anxious to get Theo out of town. They had to know that they would lose all leverage once they granted the permission.
  12. A much better deal than Bruce Chen for 2yrs/$9 million.
  13. A pitching machine aor a hitting tee would be a better option than Wakefield.

  16. If you could buy that performance going forward, it would be a bargain, but look at the guy's career. I have no reason to believe that he can show any consistent success. I might have taken a 1 year flier on him, but not a 2 year contract. He's as likely to go 3-5 and be in the minors by June as he is to repeat last years success.
