They look like 2 last place teams out there. They deserve to be where they are in the standings. The play is horrible tonight.
Nice call by Bobby V on the suicide squeeze and nice execution by Nava.
The Yankees are doing what they need to do--- putting distance between them and the Red Sox. If we are more than 10 games out when all of our guys are back, their return will have been rendered irrelevant.
The Yankees are on their best run since 1998. The Red Sox are not going to catch them. The Sox have talent but the team is poorly constructed. I don't think they have the ability to go on a sustained run any time soon. The end of July will be too late to kick things into gear. Maybe they can make a run at the second wild card and get a 1 game elimination playoff game. That's about the best they can expect.
Princess and the pea syndrome again. He pulls this stuff when he gets within 2 years of the end of a contract, because he doesn't want to endanger his next contract. He's a real gamer.
There have been a number of key situations this season where the team has had to rely on Punto. I think Scutaro could have made the difference in some of those situations.
The real shame is that they don't have both of them and that Punto isn't elsewhere. The Sox were not forced to make a choice between Scutaro and Aviles. Getting rid of Scutaro was meant to dump salary to get pitching. They didn't use the money for pitching. The extra $4.5 million would have been worth keeping Scutaro over Punto.
