  1. For some perspective, the Mets have more All Stars than the Red Sox. We are not chock full of Stars for $174 million.
  2. Longevity certainly factors into the equation. A guy hitting over .300 with a good OBP at age 37 or 38 while manning SS is pretty damn good. We have to stop making the Jeter sucks arguments. It makes Sox fans look stupid and whiny. There comes a time when you have to tip your cap to your opponent. That time came a long time ago with Jeter. I remember when I went to Fenway for Carl Yastrzemki Day in 1983-- his second to last game. As I was buying the tickets from the scalper, I got grabbed around the neck from behind from someone yelling my last name. I turned around and it was a bunch of guys that I went to High School with in Brooklyn. They were rabid Yankee fans. I said to them: "it's his final weekend, did you have to come here to harass him." They told me that they thought he was an all-time great. They grew up watching him and they were there to see him honored. I argued baseball with these guys for years, and they were there to tip their caps.
  3. I used to make this argument all the time, but the passage of time has settled the issue. Captain Intangibles has withstood the test of time. Nomar is no longer in the debate. I have less a problem with Jeter making the All Star team in his twighlight than I had when Joe Torre was taking 4 or 5 SS to the All Star game to get his boy on the team. There were several years when Jeter did not belong early in his career. He is now a legend, and the game is for the fans. If they want to see him, that's what it's all about. He's earned it. BTW: I still hate him.
  4. Yanks loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the first and Cano hit into a 1-2-3 DP and Court Jester Swisher K'd.
  5. What is with the unis that the Brewers are wearing today? I don't think they are throwback unis. I would have remembered such ugliness.
  6. Did you see that the Yankees drilled Youk yesterday.
  7. Youk with an RBI single in the first. ChiSox up 1-0.
  8. Yes, and when discussing the best of the best, it is very subjective. I haven't sat down and made a list, but there are guys I would put ahead of Brady, including one of his contemporaries Peyton Manning and maybe even Drew Brees if he keeps on playing like he has the last few years. My favorite was Unitas. If I was a coach and I was told that Unitas was down with an injury and I had to play Brady, I would not be having a heat attack. I assume that I'd have bigger problems than that.
  9. He's on pace to beat Bard's 2-9 record last year.
  10. The ball was in his glove the other night. His hands suck. Two of three excellent starts have been wasted. May tomorrow Bobby V can tell WMB to take the first pitch late in the game. He's too anxious.
  11. Please get Podsednik back with the team. kalish is useless at this point.
  12. Salty should throw his glove away on those throws and try to catch the ball with his mask.
  13. Can Salty catch anything... ever?
  14. Another walkoff is looming. Ridiculous.
  15. We are about to let them steal this game.
  16. He's not getting paid for grounders up the middle and bloop hits. When is the last time the guy hit a wall at any ballpark? Please, I don't want to hear the praises of a .275 hitter with 6 HRs making $22 million. He needs to start being a threat at the plate. WTF good is he if he can't go deep. It takes 3 hits to score the slug from first base.
  17. Who is next for the Sox?
  18. Get Podsednik back here fast and send Kalish down to learn the game.
  19. Tearing it up? For a singles hitter, he is tearing it up.
