  1. Just telling you what the Goose said. He called it a batting practice popup.
  2. The better than expected argument holds no water, because we expected nothing from him.
  3. A couple of sub-.200 hitters setting the table for the top of their order. Give me a break!
  4. If you want to win your division, you have to wipe the floors with teams like this, not struggle to try to split the series.
  5. That was 3 or 4 innings for Cook the other day.
  6. I pretty much need a no-hitter from him to win one of my leagues this week.
  7. Lillibitch is quite the find. Getting him reminds me of those situations where in Fantasy sports when an owner tries to trade you a guy the day before he has to cut him. The guy sucks balls. When our OF'ers start coming back, he should be the first one cut. Don't tell me he can play IF, because he can't. If there is one thing he does worse than hit, it is playing middle infield. Punto is a much better middle infielder.
  8. ballpark is a joke. Chavez HR was a popup and it landed in the second deck. And that's not my opinion. That's what Goose Gossage said in the booth.
  9. For some perspective, the Mets have more All Stars than the Red Sox. We are not chock full of Stars for $174 million.
  10. Longevity certainly factors into the equation. A guy hitting over .300 with a good OBP at age 37 or 38 while manning SS is pretty damn good. We have to stop making the Jeter sucks arguments. It makes Sox fans look stupid and whiny. There comes a time when you have to tip your cap to your opponent. That time came a long time ago with Jeter. I remember when I went to Fenway for Carl Yastrzemki Day in 1983-- his second to last game. As I was buying the tickets from the scalper, I got grabbed around the neck from behind from someone yelling my last name. I turned around and it was a bunch of guys that I went to High School with in Brooklyn. They were rabid Yankee fans. I said to them: "it's his final weekend, did you have to come here to harass him." They told me that they thought he was an all-time great. They grew up watching him and they were there to see him honored. I argued baseball with these guys for years, and they were there to tip their caps.
  11. I used to make this argument all the time, but the passage of time has settled the issue. Captain Intangibles has withstood the test of time. Nomar is no longer in the debate. I have less a problem with Jeter making the All Star team in his twighlight than I had when Joe Torre was taking 4 or 5 SS to the All Star game to get his boy on the team. There were several years when Jeter did not belong early in his career. He is now a legend, and the game is for the fans. If they want to see him, that's what it's all about. He's earned it. BTW: I still hate him.
  12. Yanks loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the first and Cano hit into a 1-2-3 DP and Court Jester Swisher K'd.
  13. What is with the unis that the Brewers are wearing today? I don't think they are throwback unis. I would have remembered such ugliness.
  14. Did you see that the Yankees drilled Youk yesterday.
  15. Youk with an RBI single in the first. ChiSox up 1-0.
  16. Yes, and when discussing the best of the best, it is very subjective. I haven't sat down and made a list, but there are guys I would put ahead of Brady, including one of his contemporaries Peyton Manning and maybe even Drew Brees if he keeps on playing like he has the last few years. My favorite was Unitas. If I was a coach and I was told that Unitas was down with an injury and I had to play Brady, I would not be having a heat attack. I assume that I'd have bigger problems than that.
  17. He's on pace to beat Bard's 2-9 record last year.
  18. The ball was in his glove the other night. His hands suck. Two of three excellent starts have been wasted. May tomorrow Bobby V can tell WMB to take the first pitch late in the game. He's too anxious.
