Hey, I didn’t say that it was easy. Like anything else, there are good scouts and bad scouts, but like everything else in baseball, everyone piggybacks on everyone else. Everything from minor league scouting reports to MLB pre-draft ratings is always presented as a consensus. You rarely have outliers in these evaluations. I don’t take seriously these consensus evaluations. The good scouts aren’t going to share their special insights with the hacks.

If 50% is a lot, I guess that I do know a lot. I know about as much as a coin flip, ... which is still better than the record of most scouts.

Where I am, they still can’t get snowfall totals right or the timing of precipitation. And they always seem to get the hurricane paths wrong.

And if the pitching spots on the rosters are limited, the managers would have to go longer with the pitchers. I understand the stats about the 3rd time through the order. The coddling goes beyond that, and I don’t think it is very productive. As for the stats regarding the 3rd time through the order, when these momo managers are armed with that information they overdo it. I laugh when a pitcher cruises through 5 or 6 innings on 60-70 pitches and the manager takes him out at the start of the next inning. On that day, that pitchers is “on”. He’s in command. You ride him on that day, because anyone who has ever pitched will tell you, that you don’t always go to the mound with the same stuff, and a manager that manages you strictly by the stats is not doing a good job. Any nerd that never played can read a stat sheet. A manager needs to know if his pitcher still has it, if he is fatigued, are the batters seeing him better. The coddling of modern day pitching has become too automated. The stats are an easy out for the manager. When questioned, his answer will be “ the stats show”. Yeah, and anyone can do that.

This is the lengthiest post of your with which I agree with every word. I would add one other suggestion. Play more weekend games during the day, And play one weekday game in the afternoon. This will give kids a chance to watch a whole game, maybe even have the opportunity to go to a Day game on their own with some friends.

I don’t understand the coddling. After the top 5 -10 guys in each league, the rest are fairly fungible. Most throw mid -90’s with so-so command and substandard secondary pitches. I wouldn’t coddle them, and after I lost control of them, I’d let them sign somewhere else to have their surgeries.

And we don’t get paid. Scouts aren’t as accurate as weathermen.

I am not very high on him, but my accuracy rate is about 50%... which is better than a major league scout.

The DH rule will eliminate the concept of Openers. It will also make the tiny managerial brains short circuit. LOL! Kimmi will call me a traditionalist because I don’t like the 7 inning double headers nor the extra inning rule. Question: Does a pitcher get charged for an earned run if the free runner scores? If the free runner scores and his team loses, does he get tagged with the loss.
