    You just dismissed it with your last post by concluding that since David Price has pitched 3 games after a prolonged layoff that it is not a problem. I wouldn't term Jung's post as a rant. It was a logical statement of his concerns.

    I don't think we can conclude that, and I think that the Rays are very very fortunate to have the All Star Break right after Price pitched back to back complete games.

    They let Beckett take all the time he needed. He went through the same progression as Bucholz throwing off flat ground etc. My recollection is that he even had one or two rehab starts. At this point in the season it is very difficult to build arm strength in game conditions. He has already said that he will be out there as soon as he feels good. My concern is not that he is not that he is taking too long to be ready, but rather that he will not be ready. He should take as long as it takes, but getting in game condition before throwing himself into the heat of competition will be very difficult. You are misreading my concerns. My concern is that after all this, he will not be in game condition and he will under perform, or worse get hurt. This is not a cake and eating it too situation.

    I doubt that we will see either Renaudo or De La Rosa starting any games for us this year. Webster cannot be relied upon down the stretch after the several s*** show that he has had. Wilson is bullpen filler, but he has performed adequately. Aceves has apparently ostracized himself with bad behavior. Workman has earned another start. Right now, we have no reliable depth options.

    Your concerns are completely valid, and I share them. This is so reminiscent of 2008 with Beckett. Dismissing this situation, because we are playing great without him would be putting our heads in the sand. In the playoffs, you need a #1 if you want your best chance of going deep into the post season. He is our #1. If he can't comeback to where he was before the injury, that spells trouble. I agree that this prolonged absence leaves him vulnerable to another injury due to the deterioration in his game conditioning and that worries me. If we pick up Cliff Lee, most of these concerns and worries go away, but I don't see that happening.

    They have been so overly cautious with him that they probably ruined his season. Now, as you point out, he needs to build himself up. He will return to the mond without the arm strength and stamina that he should have at mid-season. It's a recipe for another injury. I remember in 2008 when Beckett had the tingling in his fingers and he missed a month and a half or so. He went to every specialist who cleared him to pitch. They built him a special contraption to sleep with so he wouldn't sleep on his arm. After he finally got over the mental hurdle that he was in fact healthy, he returned to the mound and he had lost arm strength. At first he got bombed, then after one or two more starts, he tore his oblique and ruined our post season. The oblique was completely unrelated to the sleeping injury. He was useless in that post season. These stupid sleeping injuries can ruin your season.

    ^ From the Globe. This is just lingering and lingering. He was on track for a career year. I'll be happy if he comes back healthy at any point this season. He has real serious durability issues.

    We will see. He is getting older, but he is adjusting his approach. I don't see him falling off a cliff anytime soon.

    The numbers for the year are good so far and they will be good at the end of the year. That is what they pay him for.

    Their lineup is pathetic. When i heard some of the game on the radio, I didn't even realize the Yankees were at bat. They have a bunch of kids in their lineup. Sounded like a minor league line up. CC didn't get lit up. There were 2 big errors behind him and some bloop hits. He gave up 3 earned runs-- a good day for Lester.

    Yep, god awful with that 2.33 era and a 0.92 WHIP 34 k's in 38 inning (8 k's/9) and 20 saves in 25 save opportunities. Yes, take him out and shoot him.

    It's all opinion. Barnes has not progressed at fast pace. I'll be happy if one of that group makes it to our rotation for a few years. Our pitching evaluation has not been a strength.

    Doubs has done his job this year. I hope he holds up in the second half.

    My opinion of Rubby and Webster is not as high as the opinions of others. I don't see either one as a future starter. Webster can't get through an order more than twice. I seem them as bullpen arms. As for potential starters, I am not seeing a lot of talent in our organization. We have position players, but we are not good at evaluating or drafting pitching. We have not been good at evaluating pitching for a while.

    I think the guy they really want to get is Braun.
