None of those stats are needed to see that Lester has stunk for the last 2 seasons. Watching the games tells you that. The stats just confirm it for the doubting Thomases.
They have been to the WS twice in recent years. I guess that they are hoping that the third time will be a charm. As for Cruz, I would think the Rangers have a heads up on that situation and made the move with full knowledge of that situation.
The Yankees have made a habit of getting guys like this for free. The other teams have been picking up the salaries and the Yankees give up some palooka of a prospect.
I think the guy is physically fragile. If he can put up a full season, I would sell high on him, because I have no confidence that he will ever be a reliable innings eater.
I am thinking that he will throw on the side for the next 5 days then send him out on a rehab for 3 starts in 2 weeks. Hopefully, he will be back in 3 weeks. If this takes 6 weeks, we are talking about a Labor Day return.
As someone who remembers the game in the 1960's, I can tell you that today's players is a pampered wuss. Calling Buch a candy ass is not a big stretch. He has plenty of company. He also had good reason to distrust our incompetent medical staff. The whole process just took too long.
I said it at the time and I stand by it. I didn't care if we got anyone in return. If either of the remaining guys 2 guys of the 5 guys we received does anything, it will be gravy.
Webster pitched a real stinker last night. 1 1/3 innings 3 hits 5 BB and 7 ER. He is not going to provide us with any help this season. His AAA ERA is 4.40. But if we take out all the bad games, he's a stud.
Players in Yaz's day would have feared losing their jobs if they missed too much time. Teams invested comparatively little even in their stars, so there was no pressure to justify their big investments by getting them back on the field even if their substitute was outperforming them. Pampered princesses are more the rule today than the exception.
I'd have seen Andrews much sooner rather than throw away this much of my season. That is what i would have done. Not trusting the medical team is one thing, but what the heck was he waiting for to see the guy he trusted?
