  1. I don't understand why the front office is playing Russian roulette with our two best pitchers. Both Lester and Lackey need to be resigned but the longer this drags out and the longer these two keep pitching well the price will keep going up. I wonder if Cherington fully understands this. This needs to be adjudicated within the next two months or we going to reap some bitter fruit.
  2. As long as Farrell doesn't get any big ideas of putting Mujica into a game with less than a five run lead. This guy us s*** on a roll and the roll is moldy to boot. Still waiting, though, for Bogaerts to drive in a run. Needless to say I don't like him batting sixth. IMHO, put him second, Victorino first, Pedroia third and I think we might be potent in the top spots more so than we are now.
  3. He's a damn good pitcher and the Mets had no chance tonight. I just wonder if too many batters are swinging at ball low and out of the strike zone against him. It seems that way to me, but as long as they're doing it Tanaka has no reason to change one iota of his pitching plan.
  4. Sooner or later we just have to take control of the division......you think?
  5. Perhaps, but if Bradley cannot come up from the Mendoza line and at least give us some offense I can't see how we can carry such a weak bat in the lineup, especially when you consider that some of the people we're counting on haven't got untracked yet. Jacky has gotten three hits in the last two games so perhaps he is finally starting to come around, but he has weaknesses up there that jump out at you--very weak on a good fastball inside and now he is having trouble with curves. Well, we'll see.
  6. RJ and the rest of you----good analysis and pretty much right on the mark as far as the Yankees are concerned, but if I could add an addendum to this thread, let it be said that we are going to have make some moves ourselves. Unless the stalwarts really go on a tear we may need some outfield help (Denorfia and Ethier anybody?), and I keep insisting we could use a good starting pitcher. It would be swell if we could get by with what we have but that would mean guys underachieving must get hot at the plate and the rotation and bullpen have to pitch solid baseball. It's a lot to ask for the whole team to fall in line and put up impressive numbers but that being done it would save us the pain of having to dump off some of our prospects to other teams to patch us for this year, and this year IS important because from what I'm seeing anyone of five teams has a chance to take the division this year while this is one year the WC might not come from the AL East.
  7. Jacko forgets that some of us (me especially) were going off the deep end a some weeks back and I even decided to take a month off from this board to regain my perspective. The fact is, unless something drastic happens in the next six weeks or so, you could get fans from all five teams together and they would utter just what Jacko is now saying. Right now it seems that none of the teams in the division are ready or able to separate themselves from the rest of the crew. I only keeps my fingers crossed that when and if one does, it will be the Red Sox.
  8. You're a mite late Gomes. I got a call from a friend to lurks on this board but for some reason doesn't post. He told me the same thing. I stand corrected where the Mets are concerned but there are a lot of bad tandems out there and I've enjoyed Don and Jerry for over a decade.
  9. Gomes-----it is all immaterial. The Yankees with their fancy hats lost tonight to the Mets, and while I'm at it the Orioles lost to the Tigers. This is the kind of news I like to hear----and at last check the Rays were losing to the Mariners. Only the Jays won tonight out of our AL East rivals. I'll this a good evening. It could be even better if we can take care of the Twins this next series.
  10. There could be something to that Campfighter. In years past, like in the days before 2000, high school athletes played other sports besides baseball and were able to keep their arms from being overworked. Today with winter ball, travel teams and tournaments up the giggie, some young pitchers are throwing a helluva lot more innings than youngsters did before and some of these kids have not fully developed all their muscle culture. That could lead to weakness in the joints that erupt sooner than they normally would. There might be other reasons too but what we do know is that kids and pitching more and there are more arm injuries than ever before.
  11. You'll just have to live with it.
  12. Brock Holt was doing well before we sent him down and ought to be brought up to replace Herrera who, as you say, pretty well stinks. I thought he was better than he has shown. Punch his ticket to Pawtucket.
  13. Spudboy, I know your sense of humor so I don't know if you're putting me on or not with that short missive of yours but in my opinion we have to make a decision about Jackie Bradley within a month if he keep hitting as poorly as he has. We haven't exactly been tearing up the pea patch with our hitting and we need to hit better than we have, especially when the back end of our rotation is on the mound. Bogey is going nowhere because the team is firmly committed to him so we better hope he finally start hitting with men on base and stops the choking. Bradley should have started the season at Pawtucket because he had a lousy spring coming off a disappointing part season for the Red Sox and he still is having trouble hitting. I have to believe the team is now actively looking for some outfield help and now that we are starting to win some games ( hope I didn't jinx the team saying that) we need to be sure that if any team in the AL East makes the big move that that team is us.
  14. Out here in LA the Dodgers have Vin Scully who is the greatest announcer in baseball history, so we can't compete there. However, in my opinion, the best tandem is Orsillo and Remy. Have you guys out there ever heard some of the other twosomes that announce games. The Giants, Dodgers (when Scully in on TV), Angels, Padres in the West, and the Mets, Yankees and Orioles in the East have real second raters in comparison. I love listening to Don and Jerry on my computer screen because they both know baseball and don't try and ram a ton of stats down your throat, nor do they put you to sleep with their droning on and on, and they certainly don't come across like know-it-alls. Sorry if Remdawg is on the way out; I hope somehow he can stay.
  15. Let me try RJ. Your suggestions seem fine but I have a couple that might fit in as well or better, but not for pitchers. Those you mentioned are blue chippers but would most likely cost us plenty in prospects and don't forget Masterson is a FA after this season. Out here in LA the Dodgers are underachieving and meandering around about what to do with their four outfielders for three positions and it looks like Andre Ethier is the odd man out. In San Diego there is outfielder Mike Denofria (not sure about his first name). Andre hits left handed, Mike is a righty. One or the other would, if not both would be ideal for the Red Sox since they can both play CF where Bradley, though excellent on defense, is having a miserable time learning to hit in the Big Leagues and it now seems that the Red Sox of all teams might need some hitting. Why not make a play for one or both of those players? As for pitching Jeff Samardzjia is out there and most likely to be traded. Why not us make a move for him. With Doubrant and Buchholz not holding up their ends we could certainly use a good starting pitcher, though I concede Jeff would find it harder in the AL East than the NL Central. The AL East is now wide open and though none of us are really happy with our record so far, some moves could propel us to the head of the class, at least that's the way I see it.
  16. I don't know SFF. The Yankees have been damn lucky over the years to get some needed reinforcements and get away with not spending the store for them. I think the Cubs could get Sanchez and a middle talented player from New York and give up Samardzija. Whether the Cubs want to admit it nor not Wellington Castillo is not a long range answer for them behind the plate unless they want to keep adding to the years where they roam in the non World Series desert. Come to think of it I think the Red Sox might try and make a move for the guy. Let's face it, Doubrant still has not shown he is a solid starter that can be relied on and Buchholz continues to frustrate the team and fans alike with his underachieving even though the guy has shown he has electric stuff on his better days.
  17. That's the way I see it Pal. If we have to trade Mookie it sure as heck better be for a real quality talent since we would have to add others to the pot to g et someone like Stanton or someone of that ilk. We are heavy with left side of the infield prospects but one thing that chills me is this talk of moving Bogaerts over to third base. A month ago I hinted that maybe Xander might be a choker and caught some hell for it. A month later we see that he has been totally ineffective hitting with RISP, down to around a 100 average. Before talk of moving him to 3B let's wait and see if he can show some talent f or driving in some of the runs he kept leaving on base and also show some of the power we all expected him to show. Actually, I think with some experience he will merge into a good shortstop, and if not, he could segue into left field where we will need someone since we are denuded of good prospects in the outfield.
  18. Well I will do you a favor Youk... I'm banning myself for a month starting now. We'll see in a month how the team is doing and if you're right I will certainly give a mea culpa. Some of you seem content to just roll along and hope that things will sort themselves out, but I heard the same thing in early 2012 and when I returned a month later things were worse. I said before and I say now.....this team was NOT ready when the season began. There was little sense of urgency in ST. Anyway good luck....See you in a month...or two.
  19. OK!!!!!! Tell me how to came to those pearls. And who the hell will he sign with? I know who he should sign with and it's a no brainer for some of us.
  20. By gloom and doom are we talking about how you and your friends merely said the Red Sox were just having a temporary lull of bad play while my buddies on the other side called it what it was....a complete meltdown and collapse. Remember September, 2011. Mr. Gloom and Doom predicted on July 26th of that year that if the Sox has another bad streak it would be a total collapse. Remember that too? I don't like gloom and doom at all but I have never shied away from looking a bald fact in the face. Sometimes the truth hurts.
  21. ******** yourself. The fact is the whole Red Sox hierarchy was in the Texas home of Teixiera and had him almost signed and sealed but it was Lucchino and Henry who didn't close the deal. From all reports Tex was ready to sign with us and when we didn't follow through that night and decided to crunch some numbers Boras went to the Yankees and they decided to get involved. Whether it t urned out to be a good deal for them or not the fact is we blew that signing because we couldn't finish the final lap. And until then the Yankees were NOT even involved in the Teixiera talks. As for RBI's, a lot of you young buck have bought into this other s*** that has permeated the stats boards by number crunchers and some of the s*** they pass off as solid contributions to offensive stats. RBI means run batted in.....it means hitting with runners in scoring position, something we've been derelict at so far and why we're at the bottom of the river. As for Jason Bay, he got banged with a couple of crashes into the wall in the Mets ballpark and was never the same again. When he played for the Red Sox he hit 36 homers and drove in 119 runs and we replaced him with a guy named Cameron who couldn't hit worth s*** and forgot how to field as well and was DFA's early the next year. I don't call that improvement. As for Damon, he still was a solid hitter and base runner. Crisp never hit worth s*** for us in the three years he played in Boston and one reason the crowd went wild in the sixth game of the 2007 ALCS when Franona woke up and announced that Ellsbury would be the CF. If you are going to accuse me of dealing in ******** don't deal in ******** yourself. And BTW, your namesake got two more hits tonight and is batting 373. What is Bradley batting?
  22. Well the Cardinals thought so last season when they sent the guy to the bullpen and left him there.
  23. What the hell do we take from this miserable game? Well we got 11 hits and didn't lose any ground in the standings since the first place Yankees lost after coughing up a big lead. I do notice that Elllsbury got two more hits and is hitting 373. How's Bradley doing again????? Well as someone mentioned earlier we might even give the guy a shot at leadoff man and hope the walks and some hits make up for the plethora of strikeouts this guy seems to ring up. We also got 11 hits tonight and that's more than we got in the last three games combined. Anybody else has any positives I'm all ears. Sooner or later you would think we would start putting some real solid play together in all facets of the game. Maybe this is the last of Spring Training for the team and we're ready to make a move. And where the hell was everybody tonight? I guess some threw in the towel early.
  24. A pity really Ted. John got little support from the team hitting wise and still performed for us so well last season, and in the playoffs he stood real tall. Here's hoping he can get it together and do what he did in his first two starts. Needless to say I am and have always been a John Lackey fan, even when he pitched for the Angels. You know seeing him out there that he gives a damn.
  25. Bradley K's with runners on base to end a 5th inning threat. He's gotten some clutch hits but he also strikes out too damn much. If he didn't he might be the leadoff man we need so desperately......I repeat we need so desperately!!!!
