Is it time to trade Bucholz, I think yes
seabeachfred replied to joeycaps's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
MVP, gonna tell you something. I know you like DLR and I'll be rooting like hell for him if he is the pitcher Saturday. I have high hopes for Renaudo and Owens, none for Webster, some for Barnes and have no clue about your boy. He has surprised me at Pawtucket. He hasn't been bad at all. Frankly, like you and others, I've had a belly full of Bucky and Doobie. They have not come through at all for us and we needed them (and still do) badly. BTW, pleased about tonight. Bogey got three hits and drove in a run and would have gotten two had Johnson not made a great stop on a scorcher a little wide of third. Fortunately he threw low and the ball got away enabling Jackie to score. I was adamant when some asked it that was a hit or an error. It was a hit because Holt was safe on second, having beat the throw. Four in a row. Nice recovery but we do have a long way to go. -

Ask your pal mvp how Bogey has done tonight. First inning, no one on and he hits a double. In the third, with a runner on he pops up. Case closed. HE HAS TROUBLE HITTING WITH RUNNERS ON BASE. Well it's close to four hours later and maybe a provisional mea culpa is in order. Bogaerts drove in a run with a hit and would have two RBI's has Johnson not made a terrific stop on a laser wide of third. Fortunately he threw low and the ball squirted away and Bradley scored. I was worried they might give him a fielder's choice since the runners were on first and second but it looked to me that Holt was safe at second and he raised his hands t hat way himself. Good!!! Bogey got a hit on that. I just hope this helps him become a run producer as well as one who hits for a good average which I think he should. -

Tell your moron friend that Bogaerts got three hits last night with no NRISP but when he came up with two men on he struck out. This is not supposition, it's fact!!!!! He is hitting barely over 200 with RISP. Again that is fact. Your friend has a lot of trouble accepting things he doesn't like but are true, and his bitching and moaning about it doesn't make it any less true. Thank God I don't have to read his crap anymore except when one of you are quoting him. -

Well at least it wasn't Alan Webster, the human pin ball machine. Of course, does that mean he has to be the one to face Price tomorrow? Oh, never mind.....Let's just worry about winning the game tonight. -

Dope, candy ass, pansy. What difference does it make Spud Boy. He goes from first to second and he comes up lame? He holds his daughter and is out for three and a half months? Sorry, but the guy has problems with his body and his head, and those problems become the problems of the Red Sox and their fans. I wish him well, I wish he could get his s*** together and come back and start pitching the way he did the first half of last year. I just don't believe he is now capable of doing it. -
gojohn, welcome aboard. You're right. We need some hitters. We don't need a regular who has trouble cracking 200. We have some of those already. Vasquez will make a good No. 2 catcher. Blake Swihart up in Portland is having a good year so far and projects as both a good receiver and solid hitting prospect. He's the guy I think we should be waiting for.

That's a good point Palodios. He is the polar opposite of Bogaerts in that capacity. I noticed Jackie is going to the opposite field more the past few games and has looked good. Could it be that he might actually have found himself? I'll hold judgment for a few more games. -

I'm a big Civil War buff and Sherman is my main man. He was the first of he modern generals who believed that to win a war you take it the civilian population and break their will to support the conflict. I'd say William T. did that part of his job superbly and as he said he was "going to make Georgia howl". -

I was in San Francisco that Saturday in late June, 2010 when it happened. Buchholz tried to break up a double play and the next thing I know he's being escorted off the field. Oh s***, I said, hurt again the little pansy. We had a 4-0 lead and I wanted to win this series, especially after Wakefield s*** the bed and blew an early lead the night before. Fortunately he bullpen did a credible job and we won that game 4-2 and the next afternoon behind a Lester gem 5-1 over Lincecum. I never felt quite the same about Buchholz again. He just looked like a guy who couldn't help getting out of his own way. -
On another thread my sometimes antagonist VA and I had a meeting of the minds when we both went down the line and said if Pedroia and Ortiz hit we have a chance to start winning some games. Done tonight. I also included Napoli but the poor guy was playing with a distended finger and probably in agony under those conditions. Hopefully he heals soon and we get him back. Tonight both the pitching and hitting did their work together and though Lester didn't pitch as well as some of his starts, he also lost some because of crappy support. Tonight he wasn't as sharp but got good support......for the most part. Now is we could only win at Fenway Park we might make a little run at things. Also to my friend Palodios......SIGN LESTER AND DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Please Ben, start the negotiations in earnest this time out. Get him under wraps with no low balling.

Keep that in mind when you and others excoriate Middlebrooks. Remember that Will had his wrist crushed by a fastball in the summer of 2012 when he was having a solid season. Those wrist injuries sometimes takes two years to fully heal and that injury occurred two years ago this coming August. Remember Papi's wrist injury during ST in 2008? A mediocre season and then a debacle of a start the first three months on 2009. Wrist injuries take time to heal and there is no shortcut there.
-
I think most everyone here would agree in some measure that as Dustin and Papi go so often go the Red Sox. I would add Napoli to that list but the guy had been playing hurt and trying like hell to contribute. Now with him out Bogaerts really has to step up and, keeping fingers crossed, maybe finally Sizemore might be ready to ignite. I just hope Jon is on his game tonight and gets enough offensive support to make it two in succession for our side. Like you that ten game losing streak took a lot out of me----and if Holt keeps hitting we have to find a spot for him. As you know I didn't like the signing of Drew and I like it less now VA, we need a couple of outfielders with a little pop.
-
Just notice all the ground balls he has hit to the shortstop. He seems to do that at least once or twice a game. He needs to start hitting better and maybe now batting in the third hold where I have always said is his place, maybe he will go on a hot streak. We certainly need him and Ortiz to carry the load until Napoli returns and a couple of other of our stiffs start contributing to the cause. And so very good to get a win today.

They do periodic drug testing and if there was something amiss I think baseball would act on it The sport cannot afford another black eye. Maybe it is one of those years when the Jays are hitting on all cylinders as we did last season. I remember when 700 Hitter and I think iortiz were discussing the upcoming season, we remarked that last season the Jays were favored to win the division and finished last and maybe this season they could reverse it. None of us believed it but it could be happening. Their pitching hasn't been bad either. Those are power hitters you're talking about Spit Ball and maybe this is the season when they all have career years together. Just my hunch.

5/25 Red Sox @ Rays
seabeachfred replied to NativeBostonian's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Dupree, I see that you think the season is salvageable but I have given up the ghost. I think we need to rebuild and start as soon as possible. Get our best prospects in positions where they won't be competing against another good prospect while some positions are filled with stiffs like Bradley. That should start the rebuilding process and from there have some guys ready to step in in 2015 and 2016. As for Lee, he is too expensive for a team not going anywhere and Kemp has become a very bad CF according to scouts, the Dodger coaching staff and his manager. I would like to go with our prospects and build long term. I don't want to lose any of our best young players. Bogaerts seems to be coming around finally and looking good, I still have this minority opinion that Middlebrooks could still become a good power hitter for us even if it is in another position in the field, but Bradley is a sunk cost. Great defense, pathetic at the plate. Take his short stay with us last year, his miserable ST and what he is doing now and it is a big enough sample for even the biggest apologist on this board to see that this guy is not a ML hitter and will never be. -
We got a hell of a lot out of him last season Ted....he hit close to 300, hit 17 homers, won a Gold Glove and stole some bases while playing a great RF----and his granny in Game Six of the ALCS was the biggest thrill I ever got in all my years of watching a game in person. He earned his salary and made his signing worthwhile. Fact, he was starting to break down in his last year at Philly in 2012 and looked spent when he was traded to the Dodgers. We need a long term solution in RF, that a certainty. The only hope is he mends fully this year and comes back stronger for his third and final year with the Red Sox next season.........can you believe just how s***** we look? I've thrown in the towel and think we need to start the rebuilding process.
-
Cherington was hitting homers last season with his signings, firing on all cylinders. This year he gagging, whiffing and plain striking out. The Drew signing was stupid and will net us nothing.
-
You know Spud, I also think the guy is a puke too, but at the same time I will always have a strong attachment for him. I saw him in person a good half-dozen times beat the Yankees in both Fenway and YS, and he was the key and difference for my favorite of all Red Sox teams, the 2007 one. He was the best pitcher in baseball that year and why they gave the Cy Young to CC over Josh still puzzles me. In fact after the voting was in we saw those two go at each other in the ALCS that year, and while Sab got the crap knocked out him Josh was almost unhittable. I will also be grateful to Beckett for that season. I think he was something like 14-2 in games I saw him pitch in Boston, New York and San Diego and Anaheim.

Stat-----I think it may be time to start the rebuilding program because if what has transpired the past two weeks is of any indication the 2014 season in almost toast. The front office may not promote anyone right now but they ought to get their ducks in a row and make the moves and position changes so our best prospects are geared for a spot instead of having two of them competing for the same position while other spots go begging. It starts with Betts. Move him to SS or to CF. Bradley cannot hit---his 2013 short stay, his ST debacle and his minus 200 average so far should tell the front office loud enough that is so. Cecchini at third, Bogaerts at either short or left field, Swihart at catcher or first or in the outfield IF Vasquez can show that he can hit. I hear Travis Shaw is coming along well so he might actually be our next first baseman. Develop the kids, hope pitchers like Renaudo, Owens, Barnes, and, yes mvp, even your Rubby can crack the roster. As much as I want to see them win now I could take it on the chin for a couple of years if I know we have a solid plethora of good prospects ready to jump in and make their mark. I just hope there are no counterfeits in the prospect pool like Bradley has turned out to be. The baseball operations people have to get this one right IMHO.

The Red Sox have.....they resigned Drew. Talk about stupidity.....then again, I knew all along that he would wind up back with us and said so from last November on. BTW, the signing will be another disaster for us.

5/23 - Stop the Skid

Excuse me while I wipe off the egg. No rant guys; I'm too numb for that, but I do have a suggestion. To those of you who have DVD's of 2004, 2007 or 2013, better still if you have all of them, download them and pretend you're living in the present. Aside from that I have nothing more to offer except for all of you to get a good night's sleep. -
The Quarter Pole; What's the problem?
seabeachfred replied to jacksonianmarch's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I've had a tussle or two with SCM33 but he was pretty well spot on with his assessment. One place I had a divergence, and this is a minority opinion, is that I still think Middlebrooks can emerge as a solid 25-30 homer man. I hate giving up on someone with that kind of power especially since we don't have too much of it on our team or on the farm. As far as Bogaerts is concerned, I'd like to send him to left field where we need a power guy to open up third base next season for Garin Cecchini. Bogey could give us power, Garin good average and extra base ability. As far as SS goes, does Betts have the arm and range for it. There is a hitter there and one with speed. I'd look into that. Marrero projects as a solid fielder but a very so-so hitter and we need hitting now and in the future in the worst way. Just look at tonight. -
Guilty as charged.....I fooled myself thinking we would win, but the way Lackey pitched you would have thought we could eke across a couple of runs to give the big guy a win. You know, some accuse me of being always on a rant and they have a point. I'm at the point where I'm just numb and at a total loss to explain what the hell is going on. I think I will have to download by DVD's of 2004, 2007 and 2013 to get my jollies and wonder when the hell we will get in a WS again.
