5/23 - Stop the Skid
seabeachfred replied to SoxFanForsyth's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Good show SFF. I've predicted a win tonight too and we don't want to wind up with egg on our faces. This is the series where we can take a first stand and start the long comeback. -

To me it was conspicuous because when I returned to the board after a four year hiatus you were one of the two who really came after me with all sorts of darts and spears. But good to know that you finally fell in line and now realize that I live and die with the Red Sox. And as I said earlier I will be cheering as loud as anyone when they start winning again. It sure beats walking the floor at night after my nocturnal pit stop after the team has dropped another game. I wonder if you do that. Anyway, I'll go out on a limb and predict a win tonight. -
And I thought I was being a pessimist. Well can we at least win one of the games? Right now I'm on Begging Blvd. No, I think we are going to win tonight. How do you like that ?????
-
In what organization? I'm curious to know. Or is he playing in an independent league?
-
mvp, I never thought you would ever make me laugh but I can hardly type this as I'm as close to rolling on the floor and LMFAO. Well I think we can also use a good laugh or two. Now is it possible we can make some hay against the Tampas and win that series this weekend? That would make us all smile.
-
Right you are BSN but the time is fast approaching when the Red Sox have to start playing better---and that means getting solid starting pitching, a much improved hitting attack, and solidifying the defense without g iving away too much offense, which surprisingly, has been their Achilles heel this season. As far as rolling the dice with their youngsters, they are still ding it. In Bogaerts case it looks like he is ready to really erupt and we can sure his a solid bat in that lineup. That's a plus. Jackie Bradley is not a plus at the present time. No matter how great he is on defense, and he is very great there, we cannot carry a Mendoza line hitter in our lineup when so many others are not hitting up to their talents. What they team really needs is to brace themselves and win this series in Tampa Bay this weekend. They need to make a recovery as soon as they can.

Fred's opinion was much different months ago during your conspicuous absence while patrolling the DodgerBlues board, but right now there isn't much to cheer about......or are we watching a different team out there? The Red Sox are in trouble---I don't like bitching but I like the truth and I respect honesty and you being a former member of the Corps should appreciate that. I got the impression in ST that something was amiss and I said so here. Was it WS hangover? I don't know for certain but the team went through the motions in those games, Farrell was taking the easy does approach and there were others here who saw the same thing I did. Now the team is in trouble.....you want me to praise their solid play instead? Get real!!!! About that board you love to mention. For the record, they were run off the Internet when it was learned that a couple of punks helping to run the place were involved in, shall we say, illegal activities. I know this from two people who I crossed swords with there for a couple of years who now happen to be surprisingly enough good friends of mine. And for the record, when and if the Red Sox start playing decent baseball I will be cheering as loud as anyone else. Semper Fi. -
Let's take that step by step SFF. Bogaerts until just the other day was hitting about 100 with men on base.....Not good. Workman is getting blistered down at Pawtucket. Look it up. Bradley is hitting a "gaudy" 201 right now. These are facts, not pleasant but the truth. And the truth sometimes hurts. Now I expect Bogey to get in gear and wind up having a stellar season but I have deep reservations as to whether Bradley is ever going to be able to hit Major League pitching consistently. And like it or not right now Workman has regressed. I don't expect Trout like performances but when young players are hyped as some of ours were I expect some better than a 201 average, a 105 average with runners on base and a pitcher who is getting clobbered in Triple A. Just because I hear some blubber belly doesn't like to hear bad things (not you), it doesn't make them less true.

Who would you promote from Pawtucket today?
seabeachfred replied to mvp 78's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I was leaning towards Garin Cecchini but with Drew's signing that's not going to happen now. Maybe it's better he stays at Pawtucket this season where he is hitting well and works on his fielding which I head needs some work. -
Wily Mo could crush a ball to heavenly heights but there were a few problems with the guy. He couldn't field to save his ass, he couldn't hit a curve ball with a paddle and he was one of the dumbest base runners in existence. Theo Epstein believed that pairing him with fellow Dominicans, Papi and Manny, would have a strong positive effect on him but it didn't work. After his first season in 2006 was marred by base running and fielding blunders Theo said at the end of the season the team needed a RF since they were not going to resign Trot Nixon. The hidden meaning was that Wily Mo wasn't the answer either. By summer of '07 Pena was off the Red Sox and soon out of baseball.

5/21 Jays vs Red Sox
seabeachfred replied to NativeBostonian's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Bell, I've heard all the stuff about Shaughnessy but in this case he may be right. To me we look more like 2012 than 2013. This season is getting fast away from us. We need a turnaround and quick. -
I hope they are. It would be good riddance to bad rubbish.

We got the maximum from Gomes last year, the best that he could give in talent and spirit and drive. The prince has turned into a pumpkin and it will be time for him to find a new venue next season......if not before. And even though I'm not that enamored about Bradley why was he sitting against a righty and Gomes was in there instead when it is pretty well known to everyone, except Farrell of course, that Gomes hits righties about as effectively as Drew hits lefties........as we will also soon see. -

Just like the team.....monkey see, monkey do. Hear Shaughnessy today? He now thinks the 2013 team was the aberration and that this ensemble and the 2012 one have more in common. Two more weeks like this and I will fully back up what he says. Right now we really suck. -

Time to bring your boy Rubby and give him a chance to get shelled like Doobie and Candy Ass do. But, who knows? He may actually be as good as you say he is. You do say it, don't you? -
What did they say about our "rich and talented" farm system? People here are already betting that Webster, Rubby, and Workman will get either bombed or shelled. We already have one flop in Bradley, a seemingly waste now in Middlebrooks and a top prospect who can't hit with men on base to save his ass. So much for our great farm system.....at least until a couple of them show they are more than stiffs.

Just for the record, did you see this kid Rob Rasmussen pitch to Papi? I was his sponsor six years ago when he played for the Senior Babe Ruth Team that I founded in 1973. I think he even won the Fred Peritore Award that year. A great young man from a great family. Hell, I was both his father and mother's history teacher in high school. It was nice to see something I liked on an evening when things don't look so good for our team. I think I will put on the 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series DVD on tonight. I think I can use some good news and take a look at some better days in the past. Good night all. -

I've been asking myself the same thing NB but I remember he pulled some real stupid boners last year too but got away with them because the team was on fire and bailed him out of some of his mistakes. Still he managed better than he is managing now. He is like Francona.....very stubborn, as in his insistence that Bogaerts bat sixth. He has already left four more men on base tonight. He needs to be moved to second, and they have to get Pedroia out of the leadoff spot and put him back at No. 3. Until that is done this s*** type of baseball most likely will continue. And will someone kidnap Doubrant and smuggle him to Zanzibar? -
How's that so Palodios? How is telling the truth harmful to one's blood pressure? I simply said what I knew what would happen all along, that being Drew being re-signed by the Red Sox. Again, I was laughed at by most of the "experts" on this board when I said the front office had this itch about Drew and would eventually resign him. If mvp cannot bring himself to admit it I will do it for him and all those who laughed when I made that prediction. The best thing to defuse this would be for those clowns to admit I was right and move on. As for making the team better, how? Defense? Remember Drew hasn't fielded a ground ball hit in anger in almost eight months. That may take a little time. Hitting? The guy was 4-what, 61 in the playoffs last fall? We still have a stiff offensively playing CF and not very much better in left field. We're weak behind the plate in both ways and two of our starting pitchers suck. If they are not giving up being a winning team this season they had better do something about the outfield real soon, and, most importantly, Farrell has to change that God damn batting order of his. Pedroia is being mis-used at leadoff and forced to work the count when his forte is hitting. Bogaerts cannot hit sixth because he cannot drive in runs, at least as the present. We need Shane at leadoff, Bogey at second where his OBA will be more effective and Pedey dropped back down to third where he hit last season. If this is the first of a number of moves to "win this year" as you say, then fine. I'm all for it. Stop here though and we haven't improved very much at all. Now my blood pressure is up.
-
Now if Drew's signing means Herrera goes, I guess that's a victory of sorts. If he is kept and someone else is sent out, then we still stink.
-
No ambulance needed but you can throw some kudos my way. What have I said all along mvp????? Don't gag on it, just admit it. I said all along that Drew would wind up back with the Red Sox. Yes I CALLED IT!!!!!!!! Sometimes I think I read the front office better than they read themselves. Seriously, though, just what does Drew bring to the Red Sox? Fielding? Most likely but he hasn't fielded a ball hit off a bat in anger since October 30th. Might take a little time to adjust on that side of the ball. Offense? Are you f***ing kidding me? What was he in the post season....something like four for sixty-one or something like that. What kind of offense is he going to give us now? Not much, and that still leaves Bogaerts, a very piss poor clutch hitter (barely over 100 in those situations) now anchored at third base. Is he going to start driving in runs for us, hit for a top average and start showing some power???? And what about our outfield? We still have a hitting stiff like Bradley playing in CF, Gomes, strictly a platoon guy, holding left with his partner Sizemore who has still not caught up to Major League pitching. Our best outfielder can't stay in one piece and without Victorino we go nowhere. Catching is a mess. AJ makes me wish for Salty, Ross is barely adequate anymore, and we have two starting pitchers who should be out stealing hub caps. Having said all that, now that the Red Sox have done what I knew they would do all along, I can only wish this all turns out well. Just don't ask me to hold my breath.

Gomes-Spud Boy, please!!!!! Workman is getting worked over at Pawtucket. They are hitting the s*** out of him. He is not an answer for our rotation at the present time. He seems to be regressing. -
If he keeps showing he can hit, he plays CF, Bradley either gets traded, gets sent down or becomes a utility OF, and we get a LF who has some power pop.
-
Station, HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!! I've been suggesting this since the season began. Vic at leadoff and Bogey second. Pedroia is a hitter and taking pitches and trying to act as a leadoff man is not in character for him and it does him a disservice and makes him less effective. Papi and Nap should bat fourth or fifth. It wouldn't hurt to give this a try and I think it would work. Of course, that doesn't solve the six to nine problem because, frankly, AJ has been a disappointment, Middlebrooks is out of action, Sizemore and Gomes are not cutting it and Badley looks like he's in over his head. Cecchini anyone?

Depends on what you mean by patchwork Ted and who in particular. I also need to know when we reach critical mass and realize we have to look to the future and that this 2014 version of the Red Sox is just not going to make it. I suggested Denofria or Ethier from the Padres and Dodgers and if we could get a decent starting pitcher which, BTW, I have said we needed all season. Open for suggestions my friend.
