It would be interesting but I really don't think it's possible these days. The players make so much money that you'd really have to throw a substancial amount of dough at them for them to do it. These days large bets are tracked very well in Vegas and I just don't think there is any bogus syndication outside of Vegas that can front or invest that kind of money just to fix a game.

Apparently the Cubs threw it just like the White Sox did the following year. The prize money wasn't enough so the players threw the game to make a pretty penny and buy themselves the finest automawhatzits on the market.
Interesting story.
