  5. Orioles ready to take on Yankees Baltimore (70-78) at New York (85-63), 7:05 p.m. ET Coming off a frustrating 6-5 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, Baltimore begins an 11-game stretch against New York and Boston, two teams competing for the American League East title. The Orioles open a four-game series in the Bronx on Monday. Left-hander Erik Bedard will try to earn just his second win in 13 starts since coming off the disabled list. Bedard is 1-6 with a 5.40 ERA since recovering from a left knee sprain, and he has not been the same pitcher who emerged as the ace of the rotation with five wins in his first six decisions. Bedard allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings with two walks against the Rangers on Wednesday, earning a no-decision. In a year when the Yankees have been besieged by injuries to their rotation, Chien-Ming Wang was a bright spot before spending two months on the DL with a sore shoulder. He made one start against the Orioles this season, allowing three runs over seven innings on June 28 at Camden Yards. The Orioles are a respectable 6-4 against the Bombers this season, but most of those games occurred when the O's were in first place in the AL East. The Orioles haven't won a season series against the Yankees since 1997, and they haven't won a season series at Yankee Stadium in 10 years. Pitching matchup BAL: LHP Erik Bedard • 6-7, 3,82 ERA in 2005 • 1-2, 5.26 ERA vs. NYY in 2004 (1st appearance vs NYY in 2005) NYY: RHP Chien-Ming Wang • 7-4, 4.18 ERA in 2005 • 0-0, 3.86 ERA vs. BAL in 2005
  6. i had found a picture of Michael Abreu
  7. Rotoworld has also indicated Anibel Sanchez has been given the callup as well, even though he has reached his innigs pitched limit for the year
  8. its true, i bet Youkilis getting injured recently was a decision factor in Ramirez's call up
  9. no its cool, but still i find it funny yankee fans are mostly focusing on game 3 against Kazmir, when Sox will have Wakefield who has been the ace for the Sox since August---Tonight is Wells vs Hendrickson, once you see the stats Sox batters have against Hendrickson, littel to believe they will stay in their current offensive slump
  10. the game will be in a domed stadium where Wakefield is basically lights out when playing indoors.
  11. you're telling me, i sat by 1st base for that game
  12. im sure Hansen will be fine good jolt to the pen. bullpen worries are starting to diminish from what they were this summer
  13. i think its evident now for the rest of the season having Papelbon as the setup man and Timlin as the closer will deliver the likeness that was Timlin/Foulke had delivered last season. Adding Hansen to this duo could very well be a lights out trio
  14. Clement's last two starts of the season are currently game 2 at baltimore, and game 4 vs toronto
  15. put "Youk" on the list, he's most likely done for the season with his middle finger getting broken on a routine ground ball. I heard on WEEI that Alejandro Machado will now be Mueller's backup through end of season, and with Youk being put on the DL, Machado could take his spot on the roster for the playoffs if Sox make it there
  16. Wow yeah I just realized with the day off, that might be affecting somewhat the white sox's play recently Side Note: I do think Varitek should be given off consecutive days, tonight and tomorrow when wakefield is pitching. the man is obviously really tired when he is up to bat, besides Mirabelli has 8 hits in 14 at bats against Hendrickson who is pitching tonight's game
  17. updated september stats (updated September 19) September Stats, Cause for Concern Jason Varitek- 6 for 49 (.122 avg) Double, 3 RBIs, 3 Runs, 6 Walks, 16 Ks Alex Cora- 3 for 18 (.167 avg) Triple, RBI, 4 Runs, 3 Walks, 2 Ks Edgar Renterria- 11 for 65 (.169 avg) 2 Doubles, 6 RBIs, 7 Runs, 2 Walks, 14 Ks Trot Nixon- 9 for 49 (.184 avg) 2 Doubles, 4 RBIs, 3 Runs, 8 Walks, 9 Ks Doug Mirabelli- 3 for 16 (.188 avg) 2 Doubles, 1 Run, 7 Ks Getting There Bill Mueller- 13 for 56 (.237 avg) 2 Doubles, HR, RBI, 5 Runs, 6 Walks, 12 Ks Carrying the Team Johnny Damon- 13 for 47 (.277 avg) 2 Doubles, 6 RBIs, 4 Runs, 5 Walks, 5 Ks Manny Ramirez- 17 for 61 (.279 avg) 2 Doubles, 3 HRs, 10 RBIs, 7 Runs, 5 Walks, 11 Ks John Olerud- 10 for 34 (.294 avg) Double, 4 HRs, 10 RBIs, 6 Runs, 3 Walks, 4 Ks David Ortiz- 18 for 58 (.310 avg) Double, 7 HRs, 14 RBIs, 10 Runs, 14 Walks, 8 Ks Tony Graffanino- 16 for 51 (.314 avg) 4 Doubles, Triple, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 8 Runs, 8 Ks Kevin Millar- 13 for 41 (.317 avg) 6 Doubles, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs, 6 Runs, 1 Walk, 11 Ks
  18. the barage of penalties had killed the game for the patriots
  19. Clement's last two outings have actually been 9/18- 7 ER in 1.1 innings 9/13- 6 ER in 6.2 innings How is 13 ER in 8 innings not troublesome?
  20. i simply saw this comment and i chose to defend my team. im sorry was i supposed to go through you before i posted the cold hard facts?
  21. what>.. stop right now thats what happened? i um had no idea how those games had went down, thanks for letting me know that any 4 game sweep would still be considered a walk in the park David Wells - career vs Tampa Bay, 10-1 record with a 2.63 ERA (at Tropicana Field 4-1 record with a 3.28 ERA) this September in 3 games is 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA Curt Schilling- career vs Tampa Bay, 6-4 record with a 4.16 ERA (at Tropicana Field 4-2 record with a 3.25 ERA) this September in 3 games is 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA Tim Wakefield- career vs Tampa Bay, 13-1 record with a 2.86 ERA (at Tropicana Field 6-0 record with a 1.79 ERA) this September in 3 games is 1-1 with a 1.73 ERA wouldnt the same have to be said for David Wells and Tim Wakefield against Tampa Bay, yes I very much think so. Curt Schilling could still pitch like the way he dominated at Yankee Stadium last week, besides the Sox are facing the very hittable Seth McClung that night
  22. note: you seem to forget last time sox were in tampa, they took 2 out of 3.... Well Tim Wakefield has become a better pitcher than he was in July, he was still a warrior enough to pitch a complete game. Whose to say right off the bat Wakefield will get rocked hard? In September he has been the Ace of the Sox going 4 games (8 innings or more) and an ERA of just 1.73 do you honestly expect Sox's offensive slump to continue throughout the rest of the season, ass??? Why dont you go "stop thumping your chest" (by the way thats an immature comment), thinking the Sox will idly just give up for the rest of the season
  23. Tampa Bay did try to play spoiler and were swept in 4 games
  24. yankees havent faced their good rookie pitcher john maine--other side note is that both teams have had injuries today: Sox's 3rd baseman backup Kevin Youkilis might have broken his finger on a groundball, and Yankees' Jaret Wrigt and Jason Giambi both had to leave the game early
  25. Sox are going to Tampa Bay who they hold a 12-4 advantage over, Yankees face off the Orioles who are 4-6 against them
