  9. Blue Jays Trying to Bust NY's Playoff Bubble Randy Johnson has learned pretty quickly that you're only as good as your last start in New York. That's why he'll try to avoid a letdown following his biggest win as a Yankee when New York opens a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. Johnson, acquired this past offseason to help New York bounce back from last October's ALCS collapse to Boston, had not lived up to his billing as one of the sport's most dominant and intimidating pitchers -- until Sunday. The 42-year-old left-hander pitched seven innings of one-hit ball in a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox, giving New York the decisive game of its weekend set with the AL East leaders. Johnson struck out eight and walked two, and probably could have gone the distance if not for a cramp in his left calf. The win was the third in a row for Johnson, who appears to be heating up when the Yankees need him most. "That's the pitcher that everybody expected, and that's the pitcher that I'd expected,'' said Johnson, who improved to 4-0 against the Red Sox this season. Johnson is 10-8 against the rest of the AL, including an 0-2 mark with a 4.85 ERA in two starts against the Blue Jays this year. The Yankees need the Big Unit to come up big in the series opener after they swept three games in Tampa Bay to climb within 1 1/2 games of first-place Boston in the East and a half-game behind Cleveland in the wild-card race. The Yankees have made 10 consecutive postseason appearances, winning the East in each of the previous seven years. Rookie Robinson Cano hit a grand slam and Alex Rodriguez added a two-run shot, his 42nd of the year, as New York rallied past Tampa Bay 9-5 in Thursday's series finale. Cano added an RBI triple to give him a career-high five RBIs, and Bubba Crosby had a career-high three hits and two RBIs for the Yankees, who have won four in a row. The Blue Jays had Thursday off after dropping two of three to Boston, including Wednesday's 5-3 defeat. Shea Hillenbrand drove in a pair of runs for Toronto, which has lost three of four and is 1-2 on a 10-game homestand. 2005 Dave Bush in 2 games vs Yankees: 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA Randy Johnson in 2 games vs Blue Jays: 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA
  10. pitcher vs batter matchups Joe Kennedy vs: (career against Red Sox in 9 games a 1-2 record with a 5.31 ERA, career at Fenway Park in 4 games a 0-1 recoerd with a 7.63 ERA) Johnny Damon, 4 for 20 (.200 avg) Walk Edgar Renterria, 1 for 1 (1.000 avg) RBI, Walk David Ortiz, 1 for 4 (.250 avg) RBI, Walk Manny Ramirez, 8 for 19 (.421 avg) 4 Doubles, HR, 5 RBIs, 2 Walks Kevin Millar, 7 for 14 (.500 avg) Double, HR, 2 RBIs, 2 Ks Kevin Youkilis, 0 for 3, K Doug Mirabelli, 3 for 9 (.333 avg) HR, 3 RBIs Bill Mueller, 1 for 3 (.333 avg) RBI, K Tony Graffanino, 0 for 9, Walk, 2 Ks Jason Varitek, 7 for 13 (.538 avg) 2 Doubles, Triple, 3 RBIs, 2 Walks John Olerud, 2 for 6 (.333 avg) Double, K Trot Nixon, 2 for 7 (.286 avg) RBI, K Tim Wakefield vs: (career against Athletics in 33 games a 9-4 record with a 4.14 ERA, career at Fenway Park in 212 games a 63-55 record with a 4.36 ERA) Alberto Castillo, 1 for 10 (.100 avg) 5 Ks Eric Chavez, 8 for 23 (.348 avg) 4 Doubles, 2 RBIs, 2 Walks, 2 Ks Mark Ellis, 5 for 8 (.625 avg) Walk, 2 Ks Scott Hatteberg, 3 for 11 (.273 avg) Double, Walk Jason Kendall, 0 for 3, Walk Bobby Kielty, 2 for 8 (.250 avg) Double, 2 RBIs, 2 Walks, K Mark Kotsay, 4 for 14 (.286 avg) Double, Triple, HR, RBI, K Jay Payton, 0 for 4, K Marco Scutaro, 2 for 5 (.400 avg) 2 Doubles, RBI, K
  11. yay its a pitcher the Sox batters have faced before, please not another unknown pitcher for rest of the season!!
  12. ooh yea i think it is. In 2006 he is owed $10.75 million, in 2007 he is owed $12 million. So basically look for Yankees to try for a run at him
  13. ooh im scared now, dude its just a useless post of yours, i got bored halfway through it. only thing that interested me was what the comments you posted from other Sox members. every post you have done in this thread has been "but um he he does defense, so Ortiz should never get a MVP award  " no matter how much you kick and scream about it we will not in your favor "shut up"
  14. eh no doubt he would be a great outfielder for the Sox (Trot only good one with a strong arm and throwing power), just 2 things (1) he's known to be injury prone (2) who would Sox trade him for a big plus having him here is that in 23 games played at Fenway, he has feasted with a career .342 batting avg
  15. this "freefall" is just mostly moreso this rare offensive slump the red sox have then the pitching
  16. i kinda knew igotsheffswifesextape was f***ery haha
  17. Note: Wells had signed a 1 season contract with an option to return... he is still mulling retirement and even Wade Miller is questionable for 2006 with the Sox
  18. i agree, cleveland did take 2 out of 3 from us at fenway park--but we did sweep them at their home
  19. i tried to tell him for his own sake, he'd be banned if keep making up these posts littering across the boards, eek first time i saw this thread though
  20. If Sox win the East (i hope), basically we'd be playing who wins the West (Angels/A's)
  21. what I would think a suitable trade, if one is done indeed Manny to the Mets, is to trade for starting pitcher Steve Traschel who had indicated in August he wanted out because he was being moved to the bullpen from manager reducing the rotation 5 from the original 6 plan, and Sox had at one time tried to pick him up this year. He can veto any trade this offseason, but I bet he wouldnt pass the Sox up. Sox would get quality innings eating pitcher, Mets would get a very good at bat power
  22. Olerud can't start each game because of his legs arent that strong as they used to be
  23. hey guys, woke up and realized my bad dream was actual reality. still though curt allowed just 4 runs on 11 hits and 2 walks, his pitching and defense behind him kept that in check. this frigging offensive slump has to change especially tek who is starting to drop towards the .280's now. haha one quick question, everyone around me by 3rd base sideline seats were all saying wtf when payton actually tried to tag from 1st to 2nd. Why would you test Trot's arm like that?
  24. well look at last week's games how most of the underdogs beat the favored teams, i favor the redskins to beat the cowboys besides the fact cowboys are my ******* of a father;s favorite team
