  1. What's wrong with a little 'Yankee fan admitting defeat Mojo'?
  2. I've never been all that scared of A-Rod in the past... but I am right now. On another note, these green jerseys are nice... I own one, actually... but this is the first time I'm watching a game on TV where they're wearing them and they don't look particularly great on the field. At least one person, Francona, has the VT logo in sharpie on the side of his hat. Alright, we got passed A-Rod. I can't even put into words how happy I am to not see Sheffield in the Yankees lineup anymore.
  3. Nuggets can actually shoot this year too! And Kleiza is lights out on National TV! Nuggets lose in 7. But if they can get hot, they can win.
  4. But the best year of his career the year he was on the cover. People are just picking and choosing bad things that happen. Why would said curse basically end Marshall Faulk's career in terms of his performance, but Culpepper bounces back to have one of the greatest seasons ever? Another thing with the injury portion is that if you look at the four players that have had injuries that cost them to miss a large portion of games, three of them are mobile QB's and it's far from being the only time they've been hurt. Culpepper had his injury the last two seasons with one of the best years ever by a QB sprinkled in between that and his "Madden curse" injury. Some curse. McNabb's injury was the second major injury he's suffered in his career, and he's suffered another since, so that year was hardly an anomaly. And Vick is lucky he hasn't been seriously injured more often. And the other player, Shaun Alexander, is a freakin' RB... average career length for an NFL RB? Less than 3 years.
  5. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/wordpress/?p=154 There's a pretty good article attempting to disprove the 'curse'. I think it does a very good job. I think if there was a 'curse', there'd be some sort of consistency to it -- there isn't any consistency with the Madden Curse. It's just people picking and choosing negative occurrences that happen after the cover and dismissing the positive -- the argument for Eddie George is just absolutely nuts.
  6. http://www.thebattleofsurfaces.com/ Federer and Nadal will play on a court that is half clay, half grass... interesting.
  7. I think they'll win one or two, and even if they don't, they'll make Dallas earn their victories. When they're clicking offensively, they can fill up the bucket as well as Phoenix -- they do it a different way than Phoenix, though.
  8. ... If Buffalo wins.
  9. It's "like that" in the sense that a referee was involved... :dunno:
  10. I've never thought too highly of Chad Ford. He's the same guy that said, after the Nuggets/Knicks brawl, that any time Marcus Camby's on the court, there's always the possibility of a fight happening... or some idiotic babble like that.
  11. My least favorite NBA Official, Joey Crawford, has been suspended indefinitely for being a jackass and trying to make the game all about him. Tim Duncan was laughing about a call that was made while he was on the bench, not doing anything inappropriate or showing up the officials, and Crawford ejected him, and then challenged him to a fight, according to Duncan.
  12. What happened to the so-called curse when Eddie George graced the cover? Guy had the best year of his career.
  13. No thread about how outmatched the Islanders are, tonight?
  14. Pac-Man Jones has never been convicted... of anything. Certainly not this strip club incident. So the the NFL giving him a year long suspension is a significant step towards keeping this type of behavior out of their league. And it certainly should be applauded coming from a second year commissioner. Like I said earlier, ESPN doesn't have much of a choice -- they, like any other television network -- have to show what people want to see most. The NFL is the most popular league, it's the best run league (by FAR over the MLB), and it's the most profitable league. When you have as many big names being released and signed as the NFL does have in any given off-season, it's big news.
  15. ESPN is just showing what people want to see. Out of curiosity, how much do you guys complain when they cover a Yankees/Red Sox series in May like it's the World Series?
  16. Not sure I understand the logic behind this move, but the Broncos cut Al Wilson today. They must feel like DJ Williams is a better fit at MLB than at OLB. Eh, I dunno, I've seen this coming, though.
  17. I hate when people talk like this for other people regarding these kind of decisions. Especially if it's not like a family member. It's nice that this guy wants the attention, but it's obvious that these guys haven't decided yet.
  18. I don't know but I do see what you're getting at. I think it could be nice for them, the grandparents, if there is any sort of afterlife or anything, and maybe it's how they wanted it. For the famiy, though, very sad. Tough to lose two one member of the family... I couldn't even imagine losing two so close to one another.
  19. The Zephyr's also used to be the Denver Zephyrs, and before that, the Denver Bears and a number of other names and locations before that. They were forced out of Denver by the expansion Colorado Rockies. I saw a Zephyr's game at Mile High, their previous stadium, my first year, and their last, year in Colorado. I was young and the only thing about the game that I remember is that I cheered against them because the other team was red and I liked the color red more than green. I remember reading somewhere that they played in front of crowds as big as 45,000 people on Fourth of July games. Their current stadium looks like a great place to view a baseball game.
  20. I don't think, at this point, Reed Johnson is an improvement over someone who looks to be next in the Holliday, Atkins, and Hawpe line of Rockies farm system products. If he was a starter, I think he'd be rookie of the year in the NL. I'm not sure how he is with the glove, though, either. In the games I've seen him play defense, twelve of them were spelling Garrett Atkins early last season at 3B, and then playing first base for a game this year. I think Hawpe and maybe Atkins' contract is up after this year... I hope the Monforts aren't intending to be cheap and that they actually bring them back! I don't think offense is going to be the problem. Though they've struggled to this point, they'll get their act together offensively. If they're going to look outside of the organization for help, I'd prefer it be to improve the shoddy bullpen.
  21. Ironically, the quickest way to build karma is to not be a Yankees fan.
