  1. "Arguably the best pure hitter in Red Sox history". Does Sam Kennedy think that Red Sox history started in the 80s or something? Boggs was great, there is no denying that, but, I know this may be controversial, I'm pretty sure Ted Williams is the best pure everything in Red Sox history. (Except the pitching stuff, obviously.)
  2. Given how much Rose put into being a great baseball player, I'd have to disagree wholeheartedly with everything you just said. Between interviews with Rose, the books he has written, the interviews with his contemporaries, both players and managers, and the endless media attention surrounding the issue, I have absolutely no doubt that Pete Rose wants to be in the Hall of Fame. Not wanting to be in the Hall would be the very antithesis of the type of baseball player he was for over two decades.
  3. Hey now, be fair. O.J. Simpson was acquitted in a court of law!
  4. Oh wow, I was not aware of that. I guess I assumed that his teammates would be on his side. I can sort of see their point, though.
  5. I forgot about Jackson! Yeah, he should definitely be in as well as Rose. I disagree about the cheating though. I think gambling on the sport and cheating during the actual games are very different. However, amphetamines (greenies) were not against the rules at the time that Ruth, etc. were using them, and PEDs were not against the rules at the beginning of the times that most players are presumed to have started. I don't believe it should be considered cheating unless it was done after the rules were instituted. Grandfathering in cheating accusations seems kind of douchey to me.
  6. If I were Rose, I would focus more on trying to convince the HOF to change their policy. The HOF is not an official arm of Major League Baseball. Being banned from baseball does not make you ineligible for the HOF. The HOF itself instituted a rule that no player on the ineligible list can be inducted into the Hall. It seems to me that changing the mind of the HOF would be far less difficult than changing the mind of the Commissioner of the MLB, especially one who basically crawled out of the ass of Bud Selig to get the job.
  7. Well, I wish Miley luck. He might be a better fit for SafeCo, it's far less of a hitter's park than Fenway.
  8. Well, it's still not the worst trade Seattle ever made with Boston.
  9. Grienke to Arizona, holy crap. Did not see that coming at all.
  10. You can always go after Divinity during one of the three or four days a year when he posts. Or just Yankees fans in general, there's no reason not to frequently remind everyone that Yankees fans are the worst people in the history of people.
  11. Holy crap, I can't even believe this. Awesome. Everything is awesome right now. I might actually smile.
  12. Just respond, "No, they players dress much less ridiculously, and there is technically one Canadian team." Then do whatever the English do instead of mic-dropping, which I guess is hurl a china teacup at the wall, thump your chest with a closed fist, and say "and a very good day to YOU, sir!"
  13. The only thing I know about this guy is that for the D-backs in 07 or 08, he had one of the worst RBI-to-HR ratios ever. Not his fault, though, if people aren't getting on base ahead of him. Just an interesting bit of trivia. Anyways, this is a signing that neither wows nor disappoints me. I'll reserve judgement on this one until a couple months into the season.
  14. Probably not for a few months.
  15. Why so pessimistic? What if they all want to pitch here?!
  16. Oh, and in case you are interested, the most runs scored in any inning in the WS was when the Tigers scored 10 in the third against the Cardinals in 1968.
  17. 13 runs is the record for a clinching game. It's been done four times, by the A's over the Giants in 1911, the Yankees over the Cubs in 1932, the Yankees over the Giants in 1936, and the f***ing Yankees again over the Reds in 1961. The most runs scored in a shutout in a clinching game is 11, by the Cardinals over the Tigers in 1934 and the Royals over the Cardinals in 1985. Looking through all of the clinching games, there were a few 9 and 10 run scorers, a few more 7 and 8, but the numbers I saw the most were 2 and 3. I'd say about 75% of World-series clinching games were won with less than 5 runs.
  18. I joined this site 10 years ago. The Royals were the joke of the league. They used to be the team we all used as a punchline. A decade later, here I am saying "The Royals have just won the World Series". I f***ing love baseball. I can't remember a more likable team winning anytime recently. This was a good crew.
  19. Not only did I hope it would, I honestly expected it to. I didn't expect either team to be up 2-0. The Mets will still have a tough time forcing a Game 7.
  20. It's a tough choice. Hatred of New York is wrestling a desire to revel in the misery of Yankees fans. I may be rooting for KC but I don't think I'd complain too much if the Mets won.
  21. Colon is in. I really want this bloated greasy monstrosity to be the one to blow the game. Come on Royals.
  22. Leadoff inside-the-park homerun in Game 1. That's pretty cool.
  23. Lowe was the winning pitcher in Game 4 of the ALCS, the ALCS clinching game, and the clinching game of the World Series. Who the f*** saw that coming?
  24. 37 PAs isn't exactly a small sample size. It's close to the middle of number of matchups for guys who have both been playing for at least a few years. In 29 ABs, David Ortiz is 4 for 29 against Brian Matusz, with 2RBI and 13Ks, plus not a single home run. If I were a manager, I would pull my starter in the late innings and replace him with Matusz when Papi came up, as indeed Showalter usually does. The same goes in reverse.
  25. Jose Bautista may not have hit as many home runs as some other people, but when he does hit them, they're f***ing huge. Game-tying shot in the eighth. If the Jays come back and win the series, he's going to be a legend in Toronto.
