  1. I've always realized that people are people, and they're going to argue and occasionally get pissed at each other. Ted and UN? do, but they both contribute valuable baseball discussion to the board. So do all the rest of you obnoxious- er, all the rest of you guys. There's no reason to go all neo-fascist on you when the very next day it's likely that the same two people who were ready to kill each other are going to be calmly discussing stats. I admit I banned people more than a few times that I shouldn't have (jacko and RSFFL come to mind, though those were reversed), but when it gets too much I try to stick to temp bans. We're a small community. If I banned everyone who insulted someone else or started an argument, I'd have to ban everyone, and follow up by deleting my own account.
  2. We are not as ban-happy as some other forums. We have a lot of arguments and insulting going on here, but it never quite crosses the line and the people who do it generally otherwise contribute to the board, so we tend to be a little less likely to drop the hammer. It takes a lot to get yourself kicked out of here, so anyone who was already banned is not likely to be allowed back.
  3. I have no idea who any of our banned users who joined this other forum are, and I doubt they'll try to rejoin under their original names or anything like them. For my own edification, can anyone tell me who they are? I need to be able to look out for IP addresses and such.
  4. 4. Don't try to start Star Trek-related arguments with mods just to be a jerk. You'll always lose.
  5. That was a hell of a battle by Hanigan.
  6. Welcome to all of our new members! I hope you enjoy posting here. If you have any questions (for example "why is everyone here insane?", "what do the several dozen inside jokes people keep referring to mean?", or "do the Yankees really, truly suck?"), feel free to PM me. For the record, the answers are: "Because we're Red Sox fans", "Read the old threads, you lazy jerk", and "Um, obviously."
  7. Ugh, I know, right? It's already been three weeks, time to take him out behind the barn and shoot him.
  8. Even if he did nothing else, he created the National Park Service, and that alone is enough to make him a great man. The foresight in helping to preserve nature and the environment for the coming generations to enjoy was incredible. Plus, there was that time he was shot and shook it off like a bee sting. Total badass.
  9. I don't recall ever reading about Roosevelt hunting people, though it certainly wouldn't surprise me. The man was a badass and a great president, but he was a lunatic. Not Andrew Jackson level lunatic, but still.
  10. Usually, not always. Plus, hunting people for sport is definitely far more sociopathic than psychopathic. The difference between the two is hard to quantify, even by trained psychologists and/or criminologists.
  11. Wow, that happened in the blink of an eye. Two easy outs and then suddenly balls are flying over the fence every which way. Love it.
  12. Pretty much any hypothetical situation would end with you being hunted for sport. The return of banned posters, robot apocalypse, zombie apocalypse, nuclear apocalypse, power outage, inclement weather...you're smaller, younger, and fitter, but we're all borderline sociopaths and have all the weapons. You're basically a gazelle.
  13. I made a special decision in the case of one person, who has yet to actually return and post. I'm not going to give carte blanche to every former Talksox troll to come back and cause trouble. There's at least one person I can think of for whom I would burn this site and the entire Internet to the ground before I let him back. And yes, before the snide comments, I know you can't actually burn the Internet down.
  14. I've never had that problem, and I have never encountered anyone else who has had that problem. I don't doubt your story, but I think that might be more of a "your computer" issue than a Chrome issue.
  15. Me: Jacoby Ellsbury steals home against the Yankees: "f*** yeah! Ellsbury rocks! SUCK IT YANKEES! That was the most exciting play I've seen all year, man, my adrenaline is pumping!" Jacoby Ellsbury steals home for the Yankees: "f*** that guy, and f*** the Yankees. They should have called him out. I hope he's sore from that slide, the greasy little bastard."
  16. Every time I turn on the radio and hear the name "Hembree", I have a brief, panicked flashback to the last season and a half of Alan Embree. Like a war veteran who hears a car backfiring or a rescue dog that flinches when someone comes near them with a broom.
  17. It's especially nice to see this after two hard-luck losses for Wright. He pitched far better than an 0-2 record would suggest.
  18. Wild pitch, then a caught stealing. That's a tidy way of taking care of things.
  19. Pedroia is looking really good this year at the plate. Not a ton of power, but I can forgive that considering he's never supposed to be a slugger.
  20. Betts is a HR away from the cycle. He's a good bet to get one in his career too, perfect mix of speed for the triple and occasional power for the HR.
  21. Wind makes the knuckler harder to control for the pitcher. Wind that would affect a regular fastball by pushing it slightly off-course would affect a knuckleball far more profoundly. The point of the knuckleball is that it has very little spin of it's own compared to other pitches, and it is far slower. It makes it more vulnerable to wind and humidity than a ball traveling 20mph faster. Domes negate that vulnerability to an extent, giving the knuckleball pitcher more control over the flight of the ball. The movement that a knuckler makes depends more on the pitcher than the elements, so it is not affected by a dome.
  22. I am missing it. What is it?
  23. No. That was 12 years ago. Thumper probably wasn't old enough to use the internet. Also, he didn't join until years afterwards. I don't remember the victim, I think it was just some dumb kid who wasn't all that memorable. Most of the scam was carried out on AIM, and I think it was Pedro.
  24. Actually, neither was I, but I read a lot of old threads when I joined up (there were far less of them then, since the site was only a year old), and that was a hilarious story. Good God, I've been on this site for 11 years. Holy s***.
  25. Of course not. That's why so few people knew that YZ got all those players to sign up with TalkSox back in '04.
