  1. exactly
  2. It was being discussed over the summer when all the Halladay buzz was at it's height. If I were the Yankees I would consider it and hope that a change of scenery abnd less pressure to produce could turn him around.
  3. Good stuff. nothing like giving up a first rounder for a fringe shortstop. I think the Sox would have been much better off moving Pedroia to short and signing Orlando Hudson. f*** it, I'm not complaining.
  4. In addition to Blanco the Mets also signed Chris Coste today too. Haven't found a link but I heard it on WFAN earlier. Looks like they're just collecting catchers,
  5. Mauer denied such a report and said he had no idea where it came from. No deadline. Definitely no trade...come on now.
  6. Definitely a World Series day game. Definitely TRY and implement double-headers, though the owners would have a fit. Maybe a compromise of day/night separate admission doubleheaders would work so that the owners don't lose the revenue, and the players get extra days off.
  7. I don't hate W. as much as most of the country does, but having him take over as comissioner would make the league a laughingstock, unfortunately. Despite the job he does.
  8. I've got a few but one that sticks out to me is meeting Willie McGee at a pizzeria in Cooperstown the day of Ozzie Smith's induction ceremony. Despite being a Yankee fan Ozzie has always been one of my all-time favorites ever since seeing him do backflips as a little kid. Anyway, Willie's waiting for his slice to come out of the oven, I walk up to the counter grab a little piece of paper with the pizza shops name and phone number on it, grab a pen out of the cup they had sitting there and asked him for an autograph. He signed it but was kind of a dick though.
  9. RIP. Always heard nothing but good things about him.
  10. lol beat me too it. I agree I think Lyon would be a great option. Probably won't cost much either, and would save us a draft pick as opposed to the other top relievers on the market.
  11. No but perhaps there are Dan Patrick listeners.
  12. At least we know where your priorities stand.
  13. Anyone see or hear the interview he did with Dan Patrick this morning? Good stuff.
  14. I count probably 10 personal insults a day made by regular Sox fans on the site, you included from time to time. I don't disagree with you, but lets not preach about following the rules here, come on now. For someone who hates the yankees so much what are you doing reading biographies about Gehrig?
  15. Money talks. The Mets have talented players, they were just plagued by injuries last year. Besides, the Mets have never had a problem bringing big players into the fold, it's the big players who had a problem performing. I don't understand why you're on Holliday's nuts so hard, I don't think he's all that great.
  16. :what:
  17. I disagree, I think the Mets will absolutely get one of the two. With their horrid season this past year Omar and the Wilpons will be throwing money at everyone.
  18. All good ideas. I disagree with your opinion that the NL games are more boring without the DH, in fact I feel the exact opposite. I think games without the DH are more exciting, there's a lot more strategy involved. But I understand your feelings. I would have no problem shortening interleague play, but I would also like to keep the interleague games within a certain time period, instead of playing 1 interleague series in may, then 3 or 4 series against teams in your own league, then another 2 interleague series in a row, etc. Play all the interleague games back to back, no breaks. I understand that's not possible in the NL being that they have 2 more teams than the AL, but that should be the only exception. I agree no baseball in November, and shortening Spring training by a week or 2 isn't a bad idea too. Also, start the games earlier instead of 2-3 weeks of workouts before exhibition games start. most teams report the week of Valentines Day but games don't start until the end of Feb/beginning of March. I don't mind too much about the ASG determining Home Field, but I wouldn't be against changing that. An exhibition game shouldn't have such high stakes. I do like the game though and wouldn't want to get rid of it altogether. Salary cap is tricky, but if it could be done RIGHT then it's worth exploring. I very much like the idea of a salary floor. If there's gonna be a maximum a team can spend then there should also be a minimum. I love the WBC and wouldn't get rid of it, but I would change the timing that way it doesn't interfere with Spring Training. Play it either before Spring Training or after the World Series. As for the Olympics, Baseball needs to be reinstated, but how would you go about allowing Major Leaguers to participate? Would you put the season on hold or work out some kind of system where each team can only send x number of players?
  19. Fair enough, but that's a different story that needs to be addressed with the Umpires Association. The umpiring system has been the same for years and never before garnered as much criticism as this year.
  20. I agree that I would rather trade Joba than Hughes, absolutely. I only say I'd be willing to trade Montero without either of them because of our catching depth and his questionable projections. But like I said originally, I would prefer to just keep them all, and let Halladay go to an NL team or something.
  21. What type of changes would we be talking about? Seriouly, not to be a dick but I am curious what everybody here would change about baseball if they were commissioner. I know I personally wouldn't change much.
  22. No way Joba, Kennedy, and Gardner gets it done for Toronto, although I would have no problem trading either Kennedy or Gardner for Halladay. I might consider Kennedy, Gardner, Montero, and another young arm; but but no way I send more than one of Hughes, Joba, and Montero.
  23. idk why Selig takes so much s*** from people. I honestly think he's done very well during his tenure as commissioner. Sure, he's had his faults; 2002 ASG tie, steroid era, cancellation of the '94 series, etc. But he's done a lot of good things for the game too. Interleague play, wild card, record attendence and revenues (400% increase), luxury tax, revenue sharing, avoiding the lockout/strike in 2002, limited use of replays, WBC, merging of AL and NL operations, Mitchell report and steroid testing, 18 new stadiums (19 counting Target Field), etc. Sure there's been some shady dealings surrounding him over the years, but I truly feel he always had the best interest of baseball in mind. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I feel Selig is one of the best commissioners in the history of the game. I wouldn't oppose his election to the HOF either. IMO his replacement following the 2012 season has some big shoes to fill.
