  1. Apparently the talks were of a three-team trade with Edwin Jackson going to the D-Backs. Talks have since died down and nothing is close. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170 Here's what was being thrown around. • The Yankees would receive Granderson from the Tigers and one or two prospects from the Diamondbacks. • The Diamondbacks would get Jackson from the Tigers and Ian Kennedy from the Yankees. • The Tigers would get right-hander Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks, Austin Jackson and left-handed relievers Phil Coke and Michael Dunn from the Yankees.
  2. I agree, Clemens was ridiculous last season. He seems to have really picked it up and some scouts say he is now on the fast-track. I agree we need to see the kid play above A+ but idk if I would be against drafting him and bringing him to camp just to see what he can do (unless there's a better selection out there). I bet daddy would love to see his son in pinstripes. Half of all Rule 5 picks are returned to their club by the end of Spring Training anyway.
  3. That's what I figured. What's the date for the Rule 5 this year? There's absolutely NOTHING on it on mlb.com like there usually is in years past, and I can't find anybody previewing it, not even Baseball America.
  4. I heard that the Cards were really close on Penny. Just a matter of formalities at this point.
  5. Granderson's numbers probably would improve at Yankee Stadium, against righties at least. He just flat out sucks versus lefties. But the wind factor won't be so significant soon. They expect it to change when the old stadium comes down, which is soon with the way it's looking now.
  6. Interesting. I wonder if they get the pick outright or if they arranged for Washington to draft a selection and then trade them to the Yankees much like the Cubs and Reds did with Josh Hamilton a few years back.
  7. Really? I didn't realize you could trade draft picks. I know you can trade Rule 5 draft selections as we've seen countless times over the years, but not the picks. Comes as somewhat of a surprise to me. You got a link? If this is the case then the Yankees must have their eye on somebody to trade so high up.
  8. Nothing new, but the Star-Ledger is reporting that Cashman will sit down and meet with DeRosa's agent sometime this week as well. That's a move that I hope gets done.
  9. The Chicago Tribune has the Yankees close to landing both Granderson AND Edwin Jackson from the Tigers. Not sure how I feel about this, or how accurate these rumors are.
  10. Surprised isn't a strong enough word to describe my reaction if Jeter, Mo, or bernie were found to have been users. I wouldn't be surprised if Schilling used. Ok no more steroids....
  11. The Nationals released Saul Rivera to make room for Bruney.
  12. I think DeRosa would be an IDEAL addition to the Yanks. With his versatility he can play pretty much anywhere and would allow many of the regulars to DH more frequently. Although he wouldn't be a starter per se I still see him getting around 400-450 ABs in a Yankee uniform. Link on the Bruney trade? Edit: Nevermind http://www.lohud.com/article/20091207/SPORTS01/912070364/Report--Yankees-send-Bruney-to-Nationals
  13. From MLBtr, early this morning Joel Sherman indicated that if the Cubs and Rays worked out a deal the Mets would consider a Luis Castillo for Burrell swap. A little over an hour ago David Lennon of newsday said that the Mets have absolutely no interest in acquiring Burrell, and I don't blame them. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/mets-would-consider-burrell.html
  14. Clemens never failed one lol :what: Please tell me your not serious, PLEASE. You need evidence that a different approach was taken? Aside from aquiring video of all his ABs during that time frame how about COMMON SENSE. Baseball is a game of adjustments. Pitchers, hitters, everyone is constantly making adjustments. If you pitch someone one way and they hit, you change your approach the next time around. I can't believe you really need "evidence" that the approach to pitching to David Ortiz had changed. That's like asking for evidence that the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth rock. This is a new low, even for you. I'm in the same boat as you, a championship is a championship. The playinjg field was even as it seems every team had a few guys doing it. but when the Yankees users were revealed everyone on this board had a field day calling the Yankes cheats and frauds and claiming that their dynasty run was tainted. We're just returning the favor. I agree with you. But I recall you singing a different tune when it was the Yankees who were in question. Back to the topic at hand, absolutely. What a nightmare those moves turned out to be. Can't fault their aggressiveness though. As much as it pains me I have to agree with you here. An embarrassment to Yankee fans. I thought Philly was a perfect fit for him until they brought back Polanco. I don't see him fitting well with the Sox. We'll see what happens though. I'm skeptical. It's almost too good to be true, huh? I have to think his desire to play in Seattle is genuine.
  15. I agree that the M's could contend this year. I also agree they need to add some starting pitching, I just don't see them going out and signing Washburn again after trading him during the season. stranger things have happened though.
  16. Joel Sherman tweets that the Yanks really want Granderson Mark Feinsand from the Daily News tweets that no offer has been made to Pettitte (contrary to the report of him rejecting a 1 year, $10m offer) but the Yankees plan to make one by the end of the day supposedly worth more than $10m. As for the accuracy of these claims, who knows. also I really hope there's something to this Bruney rumor. Get this clown out of town.
  17. I have to agree with Dipre here. I would have passed on Wagner too.
  18. Fair enough, I wouldn't be shocked to see Theo sign one of them.
  19. Why who are you suggesting they sign between now and then? Holliday would push it to a 2nd rounder. If they re-sign Bay it remains a first rounder if I'm not mistaken. Who do you see the Sox signing?
  20. I think both would be good moves, although I'm unsure what Mets fans should expect of them playing in that ballpark. Defensively neither are anything to write home about either, but I think both are good, solid players. That doesn't mean anything. Barry Bonds said "test me everyday." Palmeiro insisted to congress that he never used. A-Rod assured Katie Couric that he never used. Why is Papi's word more credible and trustworthy than any of theirs? Half of players who failed drug tests since testing was implemented in 2004 insisted that it was over the counter supplements that triggered their positive. Should we just take their word too? Because of the marketability of his golden boy image. Agreed. He was probably a HOFer without PED's, as was Bonds and Clemens, etc. It doesn't make it any better though. These f***ing guys were All-time greats and they had to go and tarnish it. Got 'em there. While I have to agree with their point that steroids don't improve your selectivity and pitch selection, it does alter the approach pitchers take when pitching to you. All very good examples supported with stats. Good post.
