Are you kidding, what's your problem dude? Remove the stick from your ass man. Saying that Aybar and Andrus were also deserving in the argument for GG, and that they will surely get a few before their careers are said and done is nonsense? Give me a break man.

I can't, the only thing I can give you is the Daisuke posting fee, and a international FA's out of Latin America that you would know more about.
-
Absolutely, I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that those "other teams" really don't include the likes of the Mets and Red Sox. Now there's no denying that if the Yankees really want somebody, no matter who the other suitors are, that they have the ability to sign them no matter what with their seemingly endless financial resources; but teams like the Red Sox and even the Mets aere in the best position to flex the same sort of financial muscle and keep up with the Yanks for the most part. I agree with what you're saying, but I disagree with your earlier post that the Sox can't compete with the Yankees in the FA market.
-
I agree 100%, the Yankees had an amazing season. All of this crap about their payroll almost ruins it though. But on the other hand the Yankees have had the highest payroll each of the last 9 years that we DIDN'T win it all, and we all know how that turned out. While I'm of the belief that we SHOULD win, the fact that we actually did feels so good, considering how spectacular their season was. I'm pretty much done on the matter, I'm ready for what looks to be another fun-filled offseason and very much looking forward to pitchers and catchers reporting.

Absolutely, and the list goes on and on and on. Doesn't mean the Sox couldn't ave upped their offer, but they know when to draw the line.
-
Now none of those are great examples, but it doesnt mean the Red Sox aren't capable of competing with the Yankees in the Free Agent market. But sometimes rather than overspend on an older veteran to beat out the Yankees (which keep in mind hasn't usually worked out too well for the Yankees prior to this year), they find other efficient ways to build their team.
-
I didn't say that they always do, but when they don't it's usually because the Yankees foolishly overpayed. It has happened though. Damon in '02 (he negotiated with the Yankees but the Yankees didn't feel he was worth what the Sox offered him), Manny (Sox wanted him more but the Yanks were definitely in on him, just didn't have as big a need as the Sox), and David Ortiz come to mind (Steinbrenner wanted Ortiz but Papi wasn't viewed as an elite offensive player at the time, and didn't want to pay him as well as the Red Sox did, which was only under a million and a half). Not to mention I'm sure the Sox have beaten out the Yankees on the international front quite a few times.
-
I agree those guys are definitely also deserving, and the Gold Glove voting is an absolute joke (STILL can't get over Palmeiro winning over Tino in '97 when Rafi played only something like 37 games in the field), but I'm sure those guys will get their share of GG's before their careers are over.

Really dude? The Sox are in a better position to compete with the Yankees for Free Agents than anyone, including the Mets. They have done so in the past and continue to do so. The reason the Yankees seemingly win most of the bidding wars is because the Sox know when to stop, which is smart. The Yankees overpay ridiculously for certain players, who most of the time don't live up to their expectations and fizzle out, or can't live up to the pressures of playing in New York and soon find themselves elsewhere with the Yankees eating a big chunk of the contract. The Sox can absolutely compete with the Yankees, they just don't always go to the lengths that the Yankees do out of smart, strategic thinking. But you really need to give up this argument, the Red Sox are in no worse a position than the Yankees to spend money; they're just Jewish about it and spend wisely (no offense to any jews on the board ).
-
Sure, but I pay very little attention to the Yankee fans like that who talk s*** but only watch like 12 games a year (11 being postseason games, the other being opening day ). Those aren't real fans. The Yankee fans that piss most people off the most aren't real fans in my eyes. There's no logical way to deny that the Yanks have an advantage, and we as fans can't ignore that. And with those advantages comes the pressure and expectations of winning a World Series every year, with anything short being a failure.

Read my post a few pages back (Post# 1892), I agree that if I was a fan of a small market team the Yankees would annoy me too. And if I heard complaining from Rockies, Pirates, Nats, Padres, Mariners, D-backs, or A's fans I would have no problem with it. But hearing it from Sox fans is a bit annoying. You don't think Rockies fans have a similar disdain for the Red Sox as they do for the Yankees?

C- Joe Mauer, Twins 1B- Mark Teixeira, Yankees 2B- Placido Polanco, Tigers SS- Derek Jeter, Yankees 3B- Evan Longoria, Rays OF- Torii Hunter, Angels OF- Ichiro, Mariners OF- Adam Jones, Orioles P- Mark Buehrle, White Sox I think both Yankees selected are very deserving. Jeter's GG awards in years past might have been up for debate, but he did such a good job on defense this year there's almost no question.

Would you prefer there was no luxury tax? Before LT was implemented everyone was crying for it, now that it's in place it's a "joke." What do you think is the best solution? Forgive me, I'm sitting here scratching my head because that made NO SENSE, especially the last part. NONE. Idk how you could compare the two, and I'm not talking about the nature of the comparisons, which is ridiculous enough as it is (how could you compare a murderer to the Yankees?), but the hypothetical arguments used to defend both makes no sense either. As for the rest of your post, uhhh....yeah, the Yankees making more money means they SHOULD spend more money. Isn't that better than them pocketing all of that money? If the Yankees, with their revenue, didn't spend the most money you guys would vilify them for not spending and simply pocketing it. Face it, no matter what the Yankees do, people; Red Sox fans in particular, will still find an issue to blow out of proportion.

Twitter isn't the source, Heyman is.

Sorry, but you're probably the only one. he owns neither. At one point in the not too distant past he had small stakes in the ownership groups that owned those teams, but he has since sold them several years ago

Ok so I understand the point your trying to make, i really do. But I would suggest a better hypothetical analogy. China is a f***ing country, the biggest one at that. The 30 MLB teams are for the most part privately-run organizations. There's a reason the Yankees make more money than every other team and therefore can spend more of it than any other team; and while some of it admittedly has to do with the large media market and fan base, not to mention the global recognition of the brand; it's not all luck. The Yankees make a lot of money because they do a lot of things well. At the same time I really can't blame fans of other teams for despising the Yankees and taking issue with their spending habits, but it would be so much easier to take from fans who root for the Mariners, Padres, Guardians and Nationals for instance. Believe me I realize how fortunate and lucky we Yankee fans are to be fans of a team with the benefits and advantages the Yankees have, and that it's just chance and happenstance that I for instance (I'm not going to speak for all Yankee fans) am from where I'm from and come from a family of lifelong Yankee fans spanning several generations. If I grew up in Pittsburgh or somewhere like that and my friends and family were all lifelong Pirates, I would probably say the same s*** you guys are saying about the Yankees and their financial advantages (to "buy" championships). But it just gets so old hearing it from Red Sox fans. Red Sox fans are constantly bitching about the Yankees for one reason or another, and have been doing so for almost a century since Ed Barrow jumped ship on the Sox and started signing all their stars for the Yankees. So after so many years and decades of Yankee fans listening to Sox fans bitch and whine about anything and everything having to do with the Yankees from their success, to their financial advantages, to the players themselves on the field it just gets old hearing you guys bitch about this, and the fact that the Sox themselves are the second biggest spenders (typically) and second most profitable team makes it all the more annoying. It's just part of the rivalry I suppose, I just feel it's one of the elements that gets too much attention and could definitely deserve to die down a bit. Keep in mind though that as much as Yankee fans piss you off and drive you crazy, Sox fans drive us crazy just as much, if not more because it's never-ending with you guys. That's all.
-
Basically that's what it comes down to. I only bring up the fact that the Sox outspend the other 28 teams year in and year out (with the exception of this year apparently) because they're constantly bitching about the Yankees spending habits. Just a bunch of haters I tell ya! http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc5/domrita23/haters.jpg

If you're up at 4am later you can watch a live stream of Game 6 as the Giants go for the clincher in Sapporo. If the fighters win then they have Yu Darvish going in game 7. Should be an interesting end to the series. I wish there was more mainstream coverage of NPB here as well. The only way to follow it is to keep an eye on spotty coverage online that often times doesn't get updated in English.

Look who threw out the first pitch prior to game 3 http://www.sportressofblogitude.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/bush.jpg

What surprises me most after reading the article is that while under the influence Lincecum was pulled over for speeding Now idk about you gusy, but when I'm high I typically drive under the speed limit.....unintentionally might I add lol.

Absolutely agreed. This s*** is ridiculous. If controlled like that i don't see any harm. They could even sell it and tax the s***, everyone knows the government grows the best weed anyway. It's very unfortunate that the illegality of marijuana has forced me to quit. About 2 weeks ago I gave up one of my deepest loves; Mary Jane. Not because I wanted to but I was left with no choice. Ya see, I'm currently 1 year into a 3-year probation term for 3 arrests having to do with marijuana (all non-violent in nature. 2 were because I was in an idiot friends car who liked to speed and litter when he had weed in the car, drawing the attention of police; the other was because of my own stupidity.) For the last year while on probation I have continued to blaze, but have found ways to beat the system when it comes to my random drug tests, by way of expensive detox drink. But the cost of the drinks twice a month (between $20-40 dollars depending on the drink, on top of the fact that most of the time I never get tested and the drink proves to be a waste of money) on top of what I spend on weed is driving me to bankruptcy. After failing a urine about 3 weeks ago (the one time I didn't buy a drink, and the first time I was tested in about 8 months) I have decided to just call it quits for the time being. I'm 7 days into sobriety and it's KILLING me. I have a dream, and that dream is to one day live in a world where the Yankees are champions and weed is legal! Good for Tim though. Smoke up buddy! I've never been much of a Lincecum fan, but that has just changed. I always wondered how prevalent smoking weed was with baseball players (as well as other athletes, but you hear about it a lot more with NBA and NFL players than you do MLB players) due to the implementation of the drug policy. I know it's mainly for PED's, but I'm sure they test for narcotics and other illegal drugs (there were plenty of cocaine suspensions in the 80's). I'm glad that the reigning Cy Young winner (for now) is a fellow stoner. lmao That he can This is the ONLY time I'm probably ever going to say this, but i kinda wish I lived in Massachusetts...strictly for that reason though. Here in New York you can be arrested for ANY amount, including a seed, bowl-pack, clip, etc. Less than 25 grams is only a violation usually resulting in a fine (and sometimes, at least in my case a few hours in a holding cell. I'll take it though, my first time being "pinched" sounds so much better than "arrested" lol I had exactly 25.8 grams but they let me off with a violation). 25 grams- to 2 ounces is a misdemeanor, 2-8 ounces is a Class A misdemeanor, and mroe than 8 ounces is felony status. Also, your third offense of less than 25 grams is a misdemeanor, not just a violation.
