  1. Heyman reports that the Yanks and Damon have talked in recent days, but that it's still doubtful he returns. Jim Edmonds also said the Yankees contacted his agent and have expressed interest.
  2. Rockies signed Jay Payton today picking up another piece off the scrap heap.
  3. Earl Weaver is the f***ing man! Seeing that argument in it's entirety and uncensored made my night!
  4. He's hilarious. But as a baseball manager for a starved fanbase he's a joke! His quotes never cease to amuse though, I'll give him that. But at least Bobby V is hysterical and a baseball genius all at the same time.
  5. I think Gaudin's success with the Yanks, what little bit he had, was a fluke. He doesn't fit into the rotation assuming either Joba or Hughes takes the #5 spot, as one of them should. So he really fits in as a long reliever, which is an ideal role for him. But I think Mitre or any number of guys on the 40 man could serve that role well. Either way, I'm fine with him as a long reliever but I want no part of him starting for the Yankees, ever again.
  6. The Mets are f***ed. Another abysmal, embarrassing soap opera of an offseason in Queens. The worst part is that Manuel and Minaya are gonna be on the hot seat, and it's gonna be a real short fuse. Now I could care less about Manuel, I think he's a crackhead and would love to see Bobby V back with the Mets, but I really think Minaya's a very good GM who was plagued with the misfortune of working for the Mets -- the place where career's go to die.
  7. oops, Pirates. Also, the D-backs have released Eric Byrnes after DFAing him last week, and the Blue Jays acquired hard-throwing righty Merkin Valdez, once a highly-touted prospect in the Giants system for cash considerations after San Fran DFA'd him to make room for Aubrey Huff And Jayson Stark is reporting that Preston Wilson is hoping to receive a Spring Training invite. He hasn't played in the bigs since 2007 but played for the LI Ducks in the Atlantic League this past season. In 48 games he hit .302/.344/.474 while missing time with a broken eye socket and a separated shoulder. He suggests that the Yankees may want to give him a look in spring training being that they're looking for a cheap right-handed platoon partner for Gardner.
  8. Heyman tweeted that according to Edmonds' agent it's better than 50/50 that he signs with the Cardinals by next week. Also, idk if it's been mentioned here, but after being released by Milwaukee last March and then starting for Quebec in the CanAm league Eric Gagne will (or has) work(ed) out for the Phillies today. Also, in other minor news claimed Brandon Jones off waivers from Atlanta after he was DFA'd to make room for Hinske.
  9. Welcome!
  10. A bit of news today, but the one minor move that caught my attention was Lo Duca coming to terms with the Rockies on a deal that should be finalized tomorrow. I've always liked the way LoDuca played the game and enjoyed watching him here with the Mets. His decline over the past few years which culminated in him not getting any opportunities to play last year definitely makes him strictly a bench player, but with the ability to play first base and in the outfield on top of his catching abilities make him valuable versatile bench piece. He was named in the Mitchell Report and his PED usage surely had something to do with his declining performance the past few years that he was active, but with this new opportunity coupled with his familiarity with Jim Tracy from their Dodger days hopefully he'll be able to get back on the map and be a productive role player.
  11. I second that. Kudos on the crackdown. Good to see you guys ain't takin no s*** no mo'! Welcome, nice to have another member from across the pond. I'm glad your here actually because lately I've been reading a lot about baseball in Europe and it's popularity and reception by European fans despite the game's limited exposure over there. What made you interested in baseball to begin with and how common are baseball fans, even just casual ones, over there?
  12. $5m? :what: Please tell me you're joking because I can't stop laughing. That would be outrageous!
  13. http://riveraveblues.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/NewBPCaps.jpg Absolutely HIDEOUS, that goes for all of the new bp caps. 3930's in general are just awful IMO. I'm strictly a 5950 guy (got at least one for every team...well except the Sox lol, and dozens of minor league hats as well).
  14. That doesn't make any sense though, they claim to have a tight budget, which is true, but then turn around and give a guy like Gaudin, who along with Mitre they may consider trading anyway, a $1.5+ million raise. I doubt he would have gotten $2.95 in arbitration.
  15. Btw, I can't believe Gaudin got just under $3 mil. Crazy! What happened to that tight budget?
  16. I know after Pena got sent down after opening the season in the Bronx they gave him a few starts in the outfield. I don't know how that turned out and if he was any good, but they could possibly give him some work out there in Spring Training. As for Edmonds, if he comes back at all it will be for the Cardinals. If George was still heading the ship he might consider a crazy move like that considering the hard-on he had for him back in his prime, but it really makes no sense.
  17. Wow i didn't even realize Edgar had left. I completely missed him signing with the Yomiuri Giants a few weeks ago. That would have been cool. They also had Marcus and Brian Giles playing together for a little while.
  18. I was curious as to what you thought about this, being that you're so close and you follow the team more closely than any of us. I mean he did punch an umpire in the face (even if it was a pussy hit lol), which is unacceptable on a baseball field. But I was curious what the reaction was by the fans and media down there in the DR. Also, the Padres are close to signing Jerry Hairston Jr. to a $2mil deal.
  19. I agree, I wouldn't want to see Byrnes on anything more than a minor league deal.
  20. Assuming the cost is VERY low, what would you guys think of Eric Byrnes? You know the player I would LOVE to have if he were available, which he isn't, who is also very cheap; Garret Jones from Pittsburgh. I realize he's a lefty and they're looking particularly for a righty, but he showed some pop last year after years of dwindling around the Twins system. At Yankee Stadium with that pop he could put up some pretty good power numbers at the bottom of the order, plus the guy plays hard always, one of the players I really enjoyed watching last year. Obviously it's just wishful thinking, but I was thinking earlier about how I think he would be a good fit. I'm certainly not going to hold my breath since his contract is still very favorable for the Pirates, but with the history Huntington has of letting Cashman rape him, stranger things have happened. You never know.
  21. It may not be the "same stadium," but a lot of the original structure remained during the renovation. Granted, I'm sure the original was a much more magical place than the remodeled, but that's still the location where so much history took place. I never had the opportunity to see a game at the original version, so the '76-'08 version was my cathedral of baseball. I'm not saying the renovated stadium was the spitting image of the original, but other than the outer facade and gates I don't see a resemblance at all. Even those features look much more grand here at the new park than what I've seen in pictures of the original. The inside I'm sure looks nothing like the original, nor does the frieze, which is just absolutely horrible IMO. Not taking the location into account, the frieze at the remodeled version was much better than the current frieze.
  22. I don't blame them for not accepting, I was just pointing out that the offer was made. I wouldn't have accepted just Montero straight up for Halladay either.
  23. Just saw this...it's moot now but somewhat interesting. Apparently the Yankees offered Jesus Montero to the Jays straight up for Halladay. http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/mlb/bluejays/article/750973--griffin-jays-overcame-some-tough-odds
  24. Pete Caldera says there is mutual interest between the Yanks and Rocco Baldelli. http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/pinstripeposts/how_about_baldelli/ Not too sure how I feel about that. I would prefer Nady. Off-topic, just wanted to share this devastating picture with everyone... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Fsh7GWfK4f0/S1CJW0V-ozI/AAAAAAAAJig/ekYBeX_HzTM/s1600/5907368.jpg
  25. According to Morosi the Tigers DON'T have interest in signing Damon and that they are "counting on" Austin Jackson.
