  1. That's where your WRONG, I didn't jump to his rescue or anything, I was simply stating MY opinion, plain and simple. I take the stats for what they are, that's all. In my post I said that while James' objectivity may be compromised, you can't argue with the stats. But in typical fashion, for whatever reason, you try to flame everything said by someone who doesn't root for the same team as you. I never accused anybody of bashing the Yankees, nor do I take exception to Imperial posting the numbers, in fact I'm glad he did. As for the butt-hurt though, I don't know what you're talking about, my butt's fine. I'm sorry if yours is hurting, but you gotta take that up with someone else, I want nothing to do with that.
  2. That's fine, I was just giving MY opinion, that is all. I didn't attack the stats or the author or the poster or anyone. Why do you have to be a prick and react as if I insulted your mother?
  3. I think him working for the Sox prevent him from being objective and challenges his credibility, but the numbers don't lie. However, the game is played on the field and not on paper, and at the end of the day the team with more runs wins. That being said, despite what these numbers dictate, I'm still taking Jeter over Betancourt, I'm still content with Posada and Cano behind the plate and at second, respectively, and I'm still confident in the team's ability to win. With all of these numbers working against the Yanks last year, they were still able to wrap up a World Championship, so most of these metrics and exotic stats that are constantly thrown around don't really mean much to me.
  4. Ahh, thank you. Hadn't seen that.
  5. Plump, I dont think they got rid of Gaby Hernandez, did they?
  6. Those are good points, but I don't think it's fair to say Hughes is destined to a future of relief. He's still young enough and good enough to develop into a top of the rotation starter. I'm not saying that's going tot be the case because we don't know.
  7. Good for him, that's awesome. Also, Kevin Millar agreed to a minor league deal with the Cubs, and the Giants are set to sign both Horacio Ramirez and Byung-Hyun Kim, who hasn't been in baseball since having his minor league deal bought out by the Pirates after spring training in '08.
  8. Right, but I think they're going for the whole 55 since '55 thing, ya know. Corny.
  9. I absolutely agree. While the patch is sick, I think it's an incredibly tasteless idea. There's people still today devastated over the loss of their Dodgers, and rightfully so. You have a better idea of how affected the community than I do, all I have to go on is stories from family members and other older Brooklyn Dodger fans, but what O'Malley did to those people was horrible (although I think Moses is as much to blame, as all he offered was the land where Shea was eventually built....can't move the Brooklyn Dodgers to Queens!), and now for McCourt to try and profit off of the only great memory Brooklyn fans, many of whom don't even acknowledge the LA Dodgers, is disgraceful. I understand his wallet took a hit from his divorce, but c'mon!
  10. Kennedy was rushed more than Hughes, for sure. Hughes was drafted in '04, Kennedy in '06. Both made their ML debuts in '07 (Hughes in April, Kennedy in September). After Hughes was drafted and signed they coddled him so unbelievably, keeping him on strict pitch and inning limits (so much so that one time in AA he had a no-hitter in the 5th inning and they took him out because he had reached his limit). It's understandable to think that they rushed him given his performance in '08 given his first opportunity to be a full-time ML starter, but I assure you they were very patient and careful with him, and at the time thought he was ready. When it was clear he wasn't they had no qualms about sending him back down to begin '09 in Scranton.
  11. Non transaction related, but the Dodgers will be wearing this patch on their jerseys this year. http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-5669697dt.jpg While I absolutely LOVE the patch, I think it's stupid to commemorate the 55th anniversary of something that happened on the other side of the country. Being that it's the 55th anniversary of 1955 makes it kinda cool, but they should have recognized it in '05, not '10. Glad to see them doing a better job acknowledging their Brooklyn roots.
  12. O-Cab to the Reds is done. It's one year worth $3m with a $3m option for 2011 with a $1m buyout.
  13. Mets signed Frank Catalanotto to a minor league deal. Nice move, I've always liked the native Long Islander and hope he gets a chance to crack the squad. His versatility will add great depth, and he has a good baseball mind, which seems to escape most people involved with the Mets.
  14. Look Kennedy is what he is, I acknowledge that. But he was very highly touted as a college pitcher and when he was drafted and coming up. He was rushed a bit with surely affected his development, but I don't see why we're arguing about this. Projections don't mean anything in the end, so Red Sox fans getting angry at the fact that Kennedy was projected to be just as good or better than Lester shouldn't be an issue, because as things have turned out that obviously isn't the case. What's the deal? Sometimes I feel like some people on here just enjoy arguing. If that's the case go to law school and do something productive with your argumentative personalities. Because it gets so unbelievably annoying on a message board.
  15. Yeah but Baltimore did very well supporting them as a minor league team for most of that time.
  16. I would have liked Thames much more than Winn. If they do add another outfielder on top of Winn that just proves that the $2mil left in the budget was ******** and they could have gotten Damon. It also means that they may very well send Hoffman back to the Dodgers.
  17. I couldn't agree more, and it's also the most enjoyable as well. I love hearing old stories from my relatives about going to the Stadium or hopping on the train and heading over to the Polo Grounds for games. I think the thing I love most about baseball is the way it connects generations as the love of the game gets passed down through families. I know I fell in love when I was 4 years old sitting with my uncle sorting out his thousands of baseball cards.
  18. I agree with all of that, they just need to get some local support behind the idea. Montreal is a beautiful city and could definitely support a team if there was interest. Even though they didn't draw much, walk through Montreal today and you'll see tons of people still wearing Expos hats (part of which is a fashion statement, but still). I think a big thing is getting a stadium in place. I figure people got tired of going to the O to watch games, and I can't blame them. As for the AL, I agree with that notion to an extent. I've heard the argument several times before and have a hard time deciding which would be best. Geographically it would be best with Toronto, Cleveland, Boston, the Yanks, and O's not too far, but it would be impossible for them to compete in the AL East, especially at first, which is going to draw fans away.
