  1. I think the Yankees need to look at the bench as well. What's up with Hinske, there hasn't been any reported interest from anybody and he did nicely for us this year, he's got pop and versatility, and after making just $1.5m this past year there's a good chance he can be had at less than that due to the apparent lack on interest in him, or at the very most match last years salary and give him $1.5m again.
  2. I agree, they should spend the elsewhere. I too would be shocked if they sign Holliday. Shocked and disappointed. I probably shouldn't be, we've been shocked quite a few times in the past, most recently last year with Tex. I just don't see it as being a good fit at all though.
  3. I'm tired and cranky. Goodnight.
  4. Again, I wasn't referring to control or anything, just my feeling regarding makeup and whatnot. Why does everything have to be an argument with you? And why do I have to be a stat machine and take numbers into account before every post? I find the game is much more enjoyable on the field than on paper. Not saying I ignore stats, I just don't hang as heavily on them as you or some others do. To rebut my "feeling" about Capps by saying "stats" and pointing me towards a post you made previously is sort of a dick move if you ask me.
  5. Wow you jumped on that post, did u even take a breath between the time that I posted it and the time that u replied? And nice try, but I'm not trying to bait you, I'm just sick of all the constant BS here and what this site has become. It's almost stressful at times, which isn't good. I have enough stress in my life, I don't need it here. If anything though I feel your post was a better attempt at "baiting" than mine was. And which post are you referring to?
  6. I agree, there's not very much to evaluate defense on, but I know I personally tend to shy away from UZR. I'm not debating your comparisons, I just wouldn't base it on a single flawed metric. But it's more than I've got to base it on, so I'll give you that one. But I think honestly both teams play pretty solid D, and if one team has a slightly better defense than another, it's not a very dramatic difference. I'll leave it at that. @ U telling ME to be OBJECTIVE. Look I was just giving you guys my views, I wasn't pushing any of it onto anybody or anything like that. My thoughts that you're underestimating Hughes and Joba doesn't mean I think they will be better than Dice-K and Buchholz, I'm simply reserving judgment. Saying that I don't expect A-Rod or Jeter to dramatically decline defensively doesn't mean their immune to aging, just means that I don't forsee it. Doesn't mean it can't or won't happen, just that I don't get that indication. As for ME taking things out of context, that seems to be all you do. You take every word someone types, especially a Yankee fan, and flip-flop in your head every possible way and over-think and over-analyze every last letter in every last word. Rather than discuss and debate you come at everybody with a confrontational tone to your posts, which I think rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Seems like every post you make towards me contains some sort of confrontational tone or remark. I think you need to realize that just because we root for different teams doesn't mean we're looking to fight and argue every single point. You do a lot of fuel-feeding to to the fires however, and a lot of it can simply be avoided. This simple blurb of a thread about Nick Johnson signing (well not even signing asn't nothing official has been reported yet, they're reportedly close to agreeing as it stands now, until the morning at least) shouldn't have turned into an 8 page war of everything Yankees vs Red Sox. We get to do that 19 times a season, let's save some of the hostility.
  7. I've never seen or heard a girl say such things. I love it....it's kinda dirty in a way If all you Minnesota girls are like that I know where I'm going wife-shopping I agree, I get that same "feeling." But depending on the cost he's definitely worth a shot. Even Bruney had his bright spots.
  8. Many people here have debated the merit and accuracy of UZR at some positions. But if you're going to solely rely on that for the bulk of your analysis, by all means go for it!
  9. I agree with you and Gom on this one. As much as I prefer Johnson at $5.5m over Damon at whatever ridiculous amount he's asking now, I would have much rather had matsui at $6.5m than Johnson at $5.5m. In all of this Daisuke/Buch & Joba/Hughes talk I honestly think you guys are underestimating the abilities of Joba and Hughes. I'm not gonna go out and say that they'll be better than Dice-K and Buchholz, nor will I say that Buchholz and Dice-K will be better than Joba and Hughes. All 4 have the potential and ability to be very good this year. But it's hard to factor in the other variables involved here, such as health and endurance, among others. My question becomes, if the Sox do acquire Adrian Gonzalez, which will most likely be at the expense of Buchholz and force Wakefield into the rotation, what back end would you consider more of a "sure thing" (not that I condiser any of them a SURE thing). I honestly feel that Joba/Hughes is more likely to succeed than Dice-K/Wakefield. It's hard to determine though. I just wanted to gather everyone else opinion on that matter. I have a feeling what the consensus will be though (health concerns and age over youth and "stuff," or to be fair experience over inexperience). I have to disagree though, and part of my opinion might be due to biased, but I don't believe that has to much to do with it. Joba and Phil have long been stud prospects with a world of potential and expectations they have yet to live up to. I think this might be the year that all changes, or at least I sure as hell hope so. Lets be fair here. Sure it's possible, but both display a youthful exuberance for their ages, and both played very good defenses this year. Also, after the year Jeter had defensively, I can't see him drastically declining after making such a dramatic improvement this past year.
  10. I don't know about Sox rotation>>>>>>>Yankee rotation. I'll settle for Sox rotation>>>Yankee rotation Our pitching carried us last year despite the occasional struggles along the way. Any way you cut it our top 3, albeit flawed, is pretty tough.
  11. I absolutely agree with everything you say. The bias exists on both sides here, and I know this is a Sox board and it should be expected, and that's fine. But you should also expect somewhat of a Yankee bias from Yankee fans, not expect us to come here kissing the Sox asses just because this is a Sox board. We're all here sharing our opinons, and sometimes it gets out of hand, and on plenty of occasions I have admittedly been involved. And truthfully I don't want ORS to get banned, nor do I hope he does. I just want to point out that in most other cases, including those involving us Yankee fans, a warning is typically issued. I'm just saying that if the rules are completely ignored and not even at least acknowledged or reiterated in some kind of a warning or something I'll have a hard time taking things seriously. I also realize this just occurred and a moderator may not have seen it yet. I'm not here to bitch, which is what I know it must seem like, I'm just pointing this out in an effort to promote fairness so all of us could coexist and get along better here. I'm all for increasing the level of civility and intelligent discussion here, and if you guys have noticed I've tried refraining from any from any serious conflict or controversy lately. All I'm asking is for us all to act and be treated reasonably here, regardless of our fan affiliations.
  12. I'm not a twitter user and I don't personally like it much, but a lot of us have a hard time considering it a credible source. I don't however, twitter isn't the source of the news, it's the writers who write for the papers and outlets that we DO consider credible sources. They just happen to have twitter accounts to get their news out quicker. I have no problem viewing what I see on Jon Heyman's twitter page with as much credibility as what I see in his SI columns and on-air reports. I know it's not really relevant to any of the current discussion but it's something I noticed and I just wanted to share my opinion on the subject.
  13. Yeah but you can't objectively make these comparisons based on the past. Based on last year and their projections going forward I think it's more than fair to call Posada/Ortiz a wash. I personally might even take Posada because he's a switch-hitter, but that may just be some Yankee bias coming out. I'm sure you Sox fans would prefer Ortiz too. The opinion of a neutral party would be much more reliable.
  14. So whats your point, we have no rights here? It's a Yankee forum where we should be free to discuss Yankee related happenings. We're always painted as these extremely biased pinstriped trolls who contribute nothing to the board, but SOME (not all) of you guys should look in the mirror next time. We don't just come here to stir up trouble, and keep in mind it takes two sides to form a conflict or argument, and believe it or not we're not ALWAYS the ones to blame. Jacko posted a reasonable comparison of the lineups and got flamed by ORS. If a Yankee fan made the same remarks there would be consequences. If ORS isn't temporarily banned, or at the very least warned I'll have a hard time taking the rules here seriously and will thus look at the enforcers of these rules in a new light. Back to the point though, ORS, what's your beef with his comparison. Most of it seemed very reasonably accurate to me. If you would like to counter with your own comparison then by all means, that's what engages good discussion. That's what we're all here for, right?
  15. I was in a rush I didn't have the time to type up a big fancy analysis of the move, I just came and quickly expressed my satisfaction with the move, and left. This isn't a classroom it's a f***ing message board dude.
  16. This is of absolutely no relevance to anything we've talked about, but I came across this picture and HAD to share it. This is Kei Igawa at the Koshien Bowl, an annual Japanese college football game held at legendary Koshien Stadium, home of Igawa's old team the Hanshin Tigers, and the prestigious high school baseball tournaments. http://www.sanspo.com/baseball/images/091214/bsb0912140504009-p2.jpg LOLLLL
  17. Dipre, Spudboy, and Emmz; I wasn't looking to be confrontational or anything, I was just shocked to hear of such a thing without any real speculation outside of Boston behind it. I honestly hadn't heard ANYTHING regarding Cabrera to the Sox at all outside of general discussion among fans about the (remote) possibility of acquiring a player. Yankee fans for years talked about the possibility of acquiring the likes of Vladimir Guerrero or Jose Vidro or even Ken Griffey Jr; doesn't mean there was anything behind it or that it should be looked at as a substantial claim or rumor, just talk among fans (more of a "what if" type conversation). That's what I imagine the case here with Cabrera is. My shock and the nature of my response was based on disbelief that anyone though there were any legs to this. I'm sure, barring the acquisition of AGon, that if the Tigers made Cabrera available that the Red Sox would be in on it and could probably offer a decent package, but hearing people talk about it as if it were imminent or even being discussed among the GM's just seemed a little out there for me, that's all. Like I said, I follow the hot stove as religiously closely as anyone and I haven't heard much on this subject at all (other than "what if" type dialogue among fans and local reporters). I wouldn't hold my breath on Miguel Cabrera if I were a Sox fan, Adrian Gonzalez is a much more realistic possibility. Not to mention that discussions are ongoing. But anyway........save this for the Sox threads. Back to Yankee stuff. I 100% agree with everything you said. The prospect of adding Nick Johnson is quite enticing for all of those reasons. His ability to get on base, spell Teixeira without a huge dropoff in defense, and the decreased cost as opposed to a Matsui or Damon looks perfect to me all around. With Damon and Boras trying to play hardball, as expected, I think I'm more in favor of bringing back Nick Johnson than I am resigning Damon. The guys was in the organization for a long time as a highly touted prospect and didn't do badly in his time in the bigs with us from 2001-2003 (he wasn't Lou Gehrig or anything but he surely held his own while playing solid D as well). Just the thoughts of how this lineup will do next year have me itching for Spring Training more than ever.
  18. You really think the Sox have a chance of adding Miguel Cabrera?
