  1. For what it's worth, the first pitch to Morneau was a strike. Could have made a difference... I wish JHB was still here. He wouldn't have too much to complain about so far this year in terms of the Yankees getting help from the home plate ump. There were bad calls in both of the at bats where the Twins hit home runs. In the Mauer one there were actually two.
  2. Are you honestly surprised? Coke is good. Mauer and Morneau are great hitters. It doesn't shock me at all that one of them beat Coke. Five home runs between Mauer and Morneau in the past two games is ridiculous. For what it's worth, Rivera should have pitched the 8th, and Tomko should have pitched the 9th.
  3. Great job by Coke. Now he gets a tough test, but one that he had last night. He'll face Mauer, Morneau, and Kubel. Last night he faced these guys and Mauer was the only one who beat him. If the inning continues past Kubel, considering how much Girardi cares about match ups, I'm assuming he'll go to Albaledjo against Cuddyer.
  4. Yeah I completely agree. That didn't make too much sense. I don't know what it's going to take for Girardi to concede that he can't use Veras in high pressure situations. Here is my main problem with using him today. The bottom of the order is up. If you just bring in someone that can throw strikes, like Tomko, you should be alright.
  5. They need to stop pitching Veras in close games. This is a huge mistake. I would have preferred Albaledjo or Tomko. It would be nice to see Tomko in close games.
  6. Wow Swisher has been horrible lately.
  7. They'll probably go to Albaladejo first, and then bring in Coke once Span comes up (due up in four batters). I'm guessing they'll rely on Coke to get them through Kubel, or the 8th inning, whichever one comes first.
  8. Ok, that's fair, and if we're talking about trading him for the majority of pitchers in baseball, I would tend to agree. But common, we're talking about Johan Santana, the best pitcher in baseball. Hughes may turn out to be very good, and I'm not even close to giving up on him, but the odds of him being as good as Santana are incredibly slim. Santana has never really been an injury risk, and he really isn't showing any signs of slowing down.
  9. Mauer never should have been in position to be ahead in that count. The first and third pitches were strikes, and the third one wasn't even borderline.
  10. I'm just curious, do you think that Cashman made a mistake by not parting with Hughes in a trade for Santana?
  11. Terrible baseball right there from Jeter with the heart of your order up. EDIT: It's incredible how little offense this team has right now.
  12. Explain. Right now one of there main weaknesses is that Hughes is really struggling every five days. Wang would solve that.
  13. You really can't say, logically, that this is the kind of game that sparks long winning streaks. All you have to do is look at a few games this season to disprove that theory. The 14 inning win against the Athletics was followed by a 4 game losing streak. The comeback win against the Angels was followed by a 5 game losing streak. With that being said, it was nice to win a game that Hughes started, and hopefully they can string together some good starts in a row.
  14. In fairness, he is really only referencing Hughes, and Cashman's failure to part with him for Santana (at least that's what I'm assuming).
  15. What's ironic about this is that Gom is making such a big deal about having a better defensive catcher... I understand that defense at the catching position is more important than defense in the outfield, but it's just really odd to be content to sacrifice defense in one area yet go out of your way to improve it at another position. If Posada isn't catching, he is not playing (at least not nearly every day).
  16. The three home runs the Twins hit were crushed and would have been out in most ballparks. Jeter had the only cheap one.
  17. He was consistently at 92, topping out at 93. The YES Network radar guns tend to be inaccurate.
  18. Sorry it took so long. Victor Martinez, Catcher
  19. Jorge Cantu for 3B
  20. Sample size. Sample size. Sample size. Two games. Two games. Two games. And you give the catcher credit when the team pitches well, but when they pitch poorly, you blame it on the pitcher. You cannot have it both ways.
  21. No, but Huff did when he hit his home run. Take a look at the replay if you haven't already seen it. It's worth it.
  22. Haha no worries. Check out the link:http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/location.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/month_05/day_08/gid_2009_05_08_nyamlb_balmlb_1//pbp/pitchers/282332.xml&batterX=0&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=3
  23. What could I have only known by watching the game?
  24. He is incredibly important to the Yankees success, more so than any other Yankee.
