  1. Too bad. Burnett is still pitching really well, he just got himself in trouble with the walks. And Varitek, probably just guessing first pitch fastball, got one right in his wheelhouse.
  2. Does Pedroia always stand this far off the plate?
  3. I was really considering taking Upton with the 6th pick, and I actually think he's a better player than Utley. But I decided to go with Utley mainly because you rarely get that kind of production out of a second basemen.
  4. Great, thanks for the clarification, and the compliment on the pick.
  5. Yeah, obviously long term things are a concern, but I meant more guys that are on the DL now and will be back soon (for an injury that doesn't seem to have long term concerns).
  6. The rationale is simply that, especially considering his position, his offensive production is fantastic. Even if you group him with every single hitter, regardless of position, he's still up there. Not to mention he's young. Question: Should current injuries play a role in our selections (sorry if this has already been covered).
  7. With the 6th pick I'll take Chase Utley.
  8. Nice. This should be a good time.
  9. Posada should not have broken to back up first. You're absolutely right. If he stays at home plate, Giambi never attempts to score. But just because one person makes a mistake, doesn't excuse another. Jeter should have been aware that Posada had vacated home plate. With Giambi running, it's not like Jeter had to make a split second decision. And while we're assigning blame, if Sabathia doesn't throw the ball behind Jeter, they can probably get a double play at first. Posada made a mistake, but he wasn't alone.
  10. Wow, Billy Beane just killed himself.
  11. I just don't get not letting Rivera pitch another inning. I disagreed at the time with letting Sabathia face Holliday, but considering the state of the bullpen, I can see the argument for leaving him in. At least Marte got an out, but after all that attention he paid to Davis, he still stole second without a throw. EDIT: Edwar, somehow, gets out of it. Hopefully this inning gets to Teixeira, because I like his chances against Ziegler. EDIT 2: And I was wrong.
  12. This is a joke. I really hate the way Joe Girardi manages this team sometimes. Absolutely ridiculous. He has flat out butchered this game in the last few innings with the way he has used his bullpen.
  13. This is ridiculous. Rivera had such an easy 9th inning, and they're taking him out. He is plenty capable of getting six outs, and then giving the Yankees another chance to win it. Instead they're going to Marte. Ugh. EDIT: And the second and third hitters this inning are righties. This does not bode well.
  14. Clearly he's pretty comfortable extending his pitch count past 100. If he wasn't, and if anyone thought it was a risk, I don't think they would be doing it. Anyway, this would be a bad loss considering all the base runners the Yankees have had, and all the subsequent wasted opportunities.
  15. If you guys still need another person count me in.
  16. Strangely Brian Cashman admitted that the fences in right field are closer than the dimensions state. Seems like an odd admission, but it is pretty obvious to the naked eye if you are in the ballpark. Source: http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2009/04/21/game-14-athletics-at-yankees/ (it's in this post)
  17. This last post made me laugh. I'm not defending ORS, nor does he need me to, so I'm simply responding to a post that wasn't directed at me. We all watch the games Gom. We don't sit at home in our mother's basements, without a TV, reading statistics and graphs off of our computers. The "new-age" statistics help us better understand what we see on TV. Not everything makes sense, in my opinion, without the help of some of these newer statistical innovations.
  18. Gom, a team winning or losing is based on so many other factors than the performance of the pitcher. You know this. Wins are really not a good way to define how well a pitcher is doing. There are much better ways.
  19. Good start today for the Yankees. Need to get back to playing some clean games, even though this stadium looks like it's going to make that very difficult.
  20. Like I posted in the other thread, apparently this is impossible. Girardi did say though that he is considering skipping Wang's next start, which would be friday against the Red Sox. Link - yankees.lhblogs.com
  21. Jacko, are anyone who knows for that matter... Is Wang out of options, or can he be sent down? EDIT: I just read he can't be sent down.
  22. Wow. Not too much else to say. Hopefully Burnett can get it done tomorrow.
  23. Again, please stop using wins to define the success of a pitcher. Second, I would have traded him after 2007, and not just because of how he pitched in the playoffs. I feel like many teams would have overlooked his two bad playoff starts, and still have been willing to offer up a lot for him. I remember hearing at the time that he could have been the center piece in a deal for Santana. And again, in my first post of this thread I posted a link to another thread I started in August of 2007 about Wang. So clearly I'm not second guessing here. I've felt this way all along.
