  1. You're making your comparison at the top based on nothing. You're not using anything to back it up. So that point really doesn't do anything to my opinion. And are you really using wins to define the success of pitchers? I'm contending that Posada is adequate, nothing special, but they've been a pretty successful team in the past with him as the everyday catcher... And I'll get back to the subject as well. If Matsui is healthy they need him to DH. The Yankees are a better team with him in the lineup.
  2. And wait, I didn't notice when you said that Yankee pitchers overachieved last year. Outside of Mussina, which I acknowledged, most of them did not. Take a look at the numbers.
  3. First off, your original comment was referring to a total of 8 games. That proves nothing. It is an incredibly small sample size. Molina is a better defensive catcher than Posada. I'm not going to disagree with you there. But Posada is a much better offensive player than Molina. I understand that it helps to have a terrific defensive catcher that is capable of doing all of those things with Molina, but the Yankees have won before with Posada as their catcher and they can do it again. And I love how you cite last year as an example while attempting to prove your point. I know people got hurt, but outside of Mussina, Yankee pitchers were not particularly successful last year. It comes down to this, if the pitchers are doing their job, in the long run, they won't lose too much with Posada behind the plate. As I said in my last post, in the three starts you cited from this year, the pitchers did a poor job. Sometimes you don't need to look for a complicated answer to a problem, and this is an example. Wang (X2) and Sabathia didn't do their jobs. Over the course of an entire season, the Yankees are a better team with Posada behind the plate, as long as Matsui is healthy and can DH.
  4. Gom, then please explain why Pettitte pitched very well in his first start, and Sabathia did the same in his second start. If you're going to make a comment which appears to put some blame on Posada for some bad outings, then you have to give him credit when there is a good outing. You cannot have it both ways. This is may be ridiculous theory, so please try to stay with me here, but I think it might just be possible that Sabathia didn't have it in his first outing and Wang is off to a terrible start this year...
  5. I agree with Kilo and ORS because they should be playing Swisher everyday. However, no matter how you look at it, this hurts the Yankees' depth, which was supposed to be one of their improvements from last year.
  6. I think this is more like a Kilo doesn't think Lowell is a good baseball player and the Red Sox shouldn't have re-signed him thread...
  7. For a team that is already rather poor defensively, I don't really think the Yankees would do this. And now there is concern about Nady's health.
  8. Diony, how do you propose to get Nady and Swisher in the same lineup once everyone is healthy?
  9. I was talking to diony, defending your comment...
  10. It's true though. I don't see the need to get upset over that comment. The 8 and 9 hitters are both reserves. What do you expect?
  11. I guess all that smiling through off Swisher's pitch recognition. Yankees need to get something here. EDIT: They get one. Had a chance to put up a crooked number for Burnett and failed.
  12. And Stinge, the Rays are dominating the division? There are so many things wrong with that statement. First off, they've played only seven games. Second, they're 4-3. Third, they're in third place. If they're dominating the division up to this point, I'd love to hear your opinion about what Toronto and Baltimore (who also took two of three from the Rays) are doing. Also, A-Rod isn't going to make a big difference? Now if he's hurt, and can't perform because of his injury, then it's a different story. But if you believe what you hear, that his rehab is going well and he'll be able to play through it with ease, how can you say that a top three offensive player in baseball isn't going to make a big difference? The same guy, who, in large part, carried the Yankees offensively to the playoffs in 2005 and 2007.
  13. This is such a dumb argument. He very well might wish he is playing closer to home right now, but we have no idea, so why continue to talk about it? The relevant discussion pertaining to Sabathia is his poor first start against the Orioles and his nice second start against the Royals. Yes, originally it was rumored that he wanted to sign with a west coast team, which was likely true, but according to him (with the help of the money) Cashman and co. changed his mind. So basically you're picking and choosing what to believe. You're choosing to believe that he wanted to stay on the west coast, but you're choosing not to belief that he has welcomed the idea of being a Yankee...
  14. Alright, hopefully they win tomorrow night with Burnett going against Garza. It could probably go either way. And then I like our chances on Wednesday with Pettitte going against Sonnanstine.
  15. This is not reactionary to this year. Over the course of his career, he has generally performed poorly against the better teams in the league (mainly on the road).
  16. Who cares what number starter he is? The Yankees would be crazy to think that he's better than Burnett, they just felt it would be in their favor to split up the two strike outs pitchers with a sinker baller. With that being said, the Yankees clearly have a false perception of how good Wang really is. If they didn't, he would be on another team. If a player's perceived value is much greater than their actual value (which I believe is true in Wang's case), then that player should be traded. EDIT: And I apologize for repeating myself, because I know I just started a thread saying many of the same things, but I'm just really pissed watching this unfold.
  17. The YES guns have been slow, I believe. And he doesn't get his sinker around 95 that often. That's an exaggeration. And who cares if the Red Sox lose, it's April 13th. That means absolutely nothing to me at the moment.
  18. Served the Yankees better on another team. I'm not a fan of him. This is not reactionary...I have never been. Proof: http://www.talksox.com/forum/damn-yankees/9529-struggles-c-m-wang.html He is so overrated in my opinion. They could have had so much for him in a trade. He beats up on the poor and impatient offensive teams, which is something many MLB pitchers are capable of. He relies so much on one pitch. If that is not working, he has no chance. I posted a lot of stats to back up my point in that other thread. I'm just too pissed at the Yankees right now to take the time to update that research at the moment.
  19. Great play by Upton. I really dislike Wang to be honest with you. I called this. I have no faith in him against any decent offensive team, especially on the road. I started a thread in 2007, I think, about how I thought he is vastly overrated, especially by Yankee fans. All of the Yankee fans on this site called me crazy, but I think he's the worst pitcher on the staff, or maybe just in front of Pettitte.
