  1. Yankees lineup: Jeter SS Damon LF Swisher 1B Posada C Nady RF Cano 2B Matsui DH Ransom 3B Cabrera CF Rays Lineup: Upton CF Crawford LF Longoria 3B Pena 1B Burrell DH Navarro C Gross RF Iwamura 2B Bartlett SS Pitching Matchup: Wang vs. Kazmir All things considered, I really do not see Wang having much success tonight. I hope I'm wrong, but considering the outing he's coming off, and the Rays lineup, I find it hard to believe he'll be able to navigate through all those left handed hitters. I hope I'm wrong. Also, I understand wanting to sit Gardner against the lefty, but Cabrera from the right side of the plate does not seem like much, if any, of an improvement.
  2. I expect Melancon to be up sooner rather than later to deal with righties out of the bullpen, but that is only from stuff I've read. Jackson, you know much more about these guys than I do...what do you think? Also, if Brett Gardner's struggles, is there any chance we could see Austin Jackson before September?
  3. Not that it really matters, but the KC scorer changed his decision on the ball that went through Swisher and Cano's legs. So Joba's line was only 1 earned run.
  4. What happened?
  5. Had the game. Terrible loss. Ugh.
  6. The bullpen (Coke) was awful today, clearly cost them the game. But the 3-1 pitch to Butler was a strike, and that really changed the entire complexion of the inning.
  7. Assuming they don't come back this is an awful loss, just because they had it in the bag. They should have went to Rivera after Butler walked. That was a big error.
  8. Chance there for the Royals to really bury the Yankees, but Joba gets out of it. I don't know how much they're going to be able to do against Meche today. EDIT: Bad call costs the Yankees this inning.
  9. The idea was to sit Damon against Meche who he has terrible numbers against (not saying I agree with it).
  10. The lineup today really doesn't give them too good a chance to win against Meche (Cabrera, Ransom, Molina, and Gardner). Ransom is lost right now. Him and Matsui have really been hurting this team so far.
  11. Do you really expect them to stop the game right now? Especially if it's not supposed to stop raining. It's not a monsoon.
  12. Apparently it's not supposed to stop raining. They're going to let Meche finish off the Yankees in top of the fifth before they even think about calling it. The Yankees don't come back to KC.
  13. This could very easily turn into a rain-shortened loss. They're not going to score two runs next inning the way Meche is pitching with the bottom of the order coming up, and apparently it's raining really hard. I know it's raining, but the defense is awful. That was a playable ball and Jeter never even touched it.
  14. Defensively this team just looks lost sometimes. Not having Teixeira really hurt them right there. They gave the batter a hit which is crazy and will probably be changed.
  15. I absolutely agree. He probably felt great, and it wasn't a big deal at all to let him face those two extra batters. The only reason I expressed initial surprise is that I'm not used to seeing pitchers go out for that extra inning during their second start of the year. But it worked out fine. The Yankees coaching staff clearly knew what they were doing, and it's a non-issue.
  16. Yeah, I absolutely agree. I think the solution would definitely be to skip him when given the chance, and just keep his pitch count down initially. I only brought it up due to what they were talking about during the game. I'm still optimistic about Hughes, not to be an ace, but to be a solid number three are so. He seems like the likely replacement for Pettitte once his contract runs out.
  17. They were talking on the YES broadcast today about bringing Phil Hughes up at some point in order to cut down on Chamberlain's innings. Obviously they wouldn't go to a true six man rotation, but I'm interested to see how they would handle that. If Hughes pitches well in AAA, considering what kind of spring he had (I know, I know, it's spring training), the Yankees might be inclined to bring him up in some capacity. I guess the more likely scenario is that someone gets hurt, and he gets into the rotation as a replacement.
  18. Apparently Teixeira has some tendinitis and he'll probably start tomorrow. Source: yankees.lhblogs.com
  19. I think that there are a few things that you're overlooking. First off, it's his second start of the season. It's a 6-0 game. You have guys in the bullpen who are well rested. It just seemed unnecessary to give him those two extra batters (mainly because it's April 11th). However, I don't really have a problem with it. But please don't attack pitch counts. There are a ton of examples of guys who have gotten hurt from overuse and were never the same. Now it's obviously not just about the specific number of pitches he's thrown. A stress full 100 pitches can be the name as a non stress full 120 pitches. You have to take into account if the pitcher is laboring or not. But I don't think you should be comparing how things are done with pitchers today to how things were done years ago. Things are done differently now, and that's the reality of it.
  20. Oh absolutely, and I'm sure he's capable of doing that, but him and Dave Eiland probably decided that it wasn't a big deal to let him pitch to a couple more batters.
  21. I think the most logical explanation is that CC simply convinced Girardi to let him go out there, and Girardi decided to trust him.
  22. 108. Mixing and matching in a 6 run game seemed pretty weird to me.
  23. This makes very little sense to me.
