  1. wow..... the tigers would never make that trade. john
  2. to say that the AL and NL difference is 1-1.5 points off your era is a VERY BOLD statement. that's like saying if peavy pitched in the al his era would be 3.8-4.3. i beg to differ. there is a great difference from a guy who has a sub 3 era in one league and a over 3 era in another. the al nl difference is not just the dh, teams (for the most part) are managed differently. some pitchers thrive under those conditions, some don't. bronson arroyo is not the ends all reason that pitchers do better in the nl versus the al. you need to realize that he's going to a difference environment, different ballpark, teams have less footage on him. maybe it was the bit of confidence he got after a few good starts, maybe he's challenging batters in a way he's never done so in boston. there are many reasons to why pitchers do better in one league than another, but to say the difference is 1-1.5 runs is rediculous. it's like saying peavy in 05 was just as good as radke in 05. john
  3. more memorable when a hurt pedro came out of the pen and pitched 6 perfect innings to get us to the alcs? no way in my book. john
  4. do you watch baseball? when was the last time you saw pedro pitch? probably the world series or some sportscenter highlight. i've seen every single pedro game since he's left the sox, yeah that's right, EVERY SINGLE GAME. the guy is a different pitcher (as stated earlier). he no longer tries to overpower with his fb (therefore increasing stamina), he's utilizing his great changeup and changing arm slots etc. he's a different pitcher, he's learning how to pitch so his body doesn't shut him down. the NL is easier, but it's not that big of a difference, atlanta, washington, phili are all decent teams. face it, he's more dominant that any of us thought he would be. us, the fans screwed up, we thought he was done after 2-3 years max and now he's showing us he's changed and isn't done. it's that simple. and he's not on roids.. give me a break, watch him pitch before you say something stupid. i bet no one in this thread has seen pedro pitch more than 2 full games since he's left the sox. john
  5. in this particular order: Pedro Roger Schilling Lefty Lowe that's right.. say what you want. NO CY YOUNG. probably one of the most overrated pitchers in baseball. so what if he has 500+ wins. it was a completely different type of game back then. derek lowe probably would have had 1000 wins if he played when cy played. john
  6. that is correct, i'll restate my thoughts, batting order from 1-6 don't matter that much. john
  7. of course NOT, part of going to a ballgame is to watch your team rain or shine, hot or cold, humid or dry. roofs take away from the game, the wind factor, the humidity factor, the temperature. no way do i want any sort of covering over a baseball field. john
  8. trot nixon right now is far more valuable than willy mo in RF. you can't compare the two. other than hr and slg% nixon is superior in the important category OB%. not to mention he's much better defensively. willy mo still hasn't adjusted to playing the fenway RF well. nixon has been doing it for years. willy mo would be a great bat off the bench when we need power vs left handed pitching, to give manny, crisp or nixon a day off and if ortiz needs a day off. john
  9. he's on my fantasy squad, if he wants to hit 300 homers by all means, do so albert. john
  10. i know era + takes the era into account. but like you said, it was the 1880's. like you said, 105 innings is a fluke, bosox said the rest. underhand pithcing 8 balls etc.. it's all in the handbook :-D john
  11. look at sandy's stats. they are amazing, but then think about the era in which he pitched. the dead ball era. not to mention he had a higher mound. i think if you were to put pedro in the lat 60's you would see a sub 2 era consistantly, 16k/9 and about 350+k's per season. edit: i wouldn't ever consider pedro #2 in era+ record. he's #1. he's 2nd to a guy who pitched in 1880. back then the league era was UNDER 3. that guy wouldn't even be able to crack the AAA team these days. john
  12. boo pedro? if i see anyone boo the guy i might just throw a sack of s*** at their face. pedro was amazing for us, anyone that boo's him was not a fan when pedro was our entire pitching staff and obviously knows nothing about his dominace. i'll be at that game with my 8 year old pedro t-shirt, my pedro baseball pins all over my hat and up on my feet. john

    matsui

i wish the redsox yankee rivalry wouldn't clutter this thread. i made this to honor the guy, what a stand up man. the injury looked pretty bad, there were no great angles but it looked like he hyper extended it pretty serverly. i'm expecting some definate torn ligaments (hence surgery was needed). it was clearly bad, his hand swelled up severly. and before anyone jumps on me, i do know what i am talking about. that's what i'm spending 7 years of my life learning about. john

    matsui

you know, i'm sad to see him hurt. he's probably one of the most respected yankees out there. did anyone see this article? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2443147 the guy APOLOGIZED for getting hurt. what a complete class act. get well soon matsui, it's always nice when your opponent is not scum like some of the other yankees. john
  15. that's what they say about all records.. then they get broken... john
  16. Wins: 3 HRs: 3 Runs: 24 My pick (total): 30 john
  17. of course there is truth to it, i broke the damn story to you guys  john
  18. anyone who didn't say "sell it" is a liar.... you catch something like that and you would sell it for as much as you could, even if it'll be worth more in the future (because there is a chance it won't be).. if i caught it and got 50k for it i would sell it in a heart beat. i'm shoulder deep in loans and that would help so much. john
  19. barry zito HAS been a good pitcher, just not the overrated pitcher he used to be. john
  20. ichiro CAN hit for power, but that's not his job, it's to take pitches and get on base. ichiro is a great player, hands down. his obp last season was .350, his lowest since he's been in the states. john
  21. you could drop scott hatteberg in the 3 or 4 spot in the yankee lineup in his contract year and he'll get signed with a 5 year 65 mill contract the next season. john
  22. i wouldn't consider beltre an overrated player, no one even considers him a good player anymore.. most predicted his year was a fluke. you can't really call barry zito overrated, he put up great numbers before, he might not be lights out anymore but he's still a solid pitcher and is an ace on 75% of the clubs in mlb. podsednik and soriano i agree with completely, i would also add carlos beltran and carl pavano (even though we all know he sucks) john
  23. talksox... last i checked tito was the manager of the red sox... and next week's subject, kelly is an employee of the red sox. john
  24. you'RE an idiot... your an idiot sounds pretty stupid to me. then again, i have completed grammar school:lol: john
  25. maybe because it gives them 2 leadoff hitters.. batting order doesn't matter than much anyways. john
