  1. cough, phantom tag.. cough.. cough, jeter homerun... cough.. to name a few more recent ones.. john
  2. i can't believe no one has mentioned el guapo yet.. tsk tsk john
  3. EEI sucks anyways.. those guys don't know anything about baseball. i took my mother for an MRI a couple months ago and almost threw up listening to them while waiting in the car. john
  4. don't take too much into the amount of complete games pedro has comepared to others.. in todays game pitch count is drooled upon. after 100 pitches you are going to get yanked at any minute. back in the day guys used to pitch to 150+ pitches easily. but if you chose to look at CG pedro is still top 15 among active pitchers, i think he's 11th. he'll move up that list this year. john
  5. don't get me wrong, i completely agree that pedro should have won it.. it's just that the voters will always put more emphasis on wins.. not to mention that lowe probably took some votes away from pedro.
  6. i might have to kill you j/k... pedro put himself on the line for us too.. 99 alds against the indiants.. 5 innings of perfect baseball out of the pen on half a hands day rest. john
  7. that was right after they walked nomar, it was deep center in cleveland.. such fond memories.. my favorite is obviously pedro.. but before he came to the sox it was johnny V, before his time was eck. john
  8. bleachers = best seats at fenway... monster is cool but it's not the same. john
  9. no s*** huh.. come the end of the season we'll be counting on him. especially playoff time. john
  10. that we can all agree with.. especially since pudge had to drop 15 lbs last offseason to be more "mobile".... hate to say it, but it sounds pretty BS. john
  11. as much as i love pedro and think he's the most dominant player to ever live that was actually a very close cy young race. in bill james and rob neyers guide to pitching book bill james wrote a cy young formula. in the end zito came out ahead by almost 10 points. personally i think he put too much emphasis on wins.. 6 points a piece.. that right there gave zito an 18 point lead. losses were not emphasized enough, they were a subtraction of 2 points. personally imo, when a pitcher wins it's not necessarily because he pitched a good game, sometimes it could be due to the fact that his team scored a lot of runs. i've seen too many times where a pitcher goes 6, gives up 4 and still gets the W. that's not good, that's garbage. more than often when a pitcher gets the L it's because he choked it up, not because his team couldn't score. pedro went 14-4 in 2003 with a 2.22 era. granted that 4 could have been an 8 if things happened to go right. more often than not if a pitcher gets the L it's because he pitched himself into the L. pedro was not "robbed" of the cy young. he was beat because the voters put too much emphasis on the W. most of them write for newspapers, most of them just tell a story, most of them have no idea what baseball really is. it happens. i wouldn't get too caught up and upset about it. if you want to talk about robbed talk about randy johnson 2 years ago. he beat out clemens in almost every category by a landslide and still lost because he had less wins. the cy young award is a joke. they should name it "pitcher with most wins and decent numbers award", i guess that's what happens when you name it after the pitcher with the most wins. john
  12. 285+ in the AL EAST during the ROID ERA. NUFF SAID john
  13. normally i would go apes and tell you how incorrect that is. but judging by the comment you're much too young to know the importance of pedro throughout his 7 year contract with boston. every 5 games we were expected to win when pedro was pitching. 2004 was his first year with us with an era over 3.. OVER 3.. that is just absolutely filthy. if we didn't have pedro the sox would NOT have won the world series. i'm pretty sure everyone agrees with this. pedro didn't NEED schilling, he needed ANYONE WHO COULD PITCH. before lowe emerged with his 21 W season followed by a 19 W season pedro had jack diddily yo for a 2-5. it's like taking todays santana (arguably todays best pitcher) and putting him on the devil rays minus kazmir... people seem to forget that winning a world series is a team effort. schilling never would have won in AZ w/o RJ and vice versa. to say that schilling is a better sox than pedro because he has more WS rings is just silly. it makes me wonder if you know what the phantom tag was let alone who the sox played in the late 80's alcs. john
  14. wins are such a stupid stat for pitchers.. think about 2003, he only had 14 wins in 190 ip with a 2.22 era.. that's rediculous. with a 2.22 era today even the devil rays could have given pedro at least 16. last year the mets blew at least 3 games for pedro alone. stats that should be looked at when judging a pitchers HOF is his amount of quality starts, stats like WHIP, K/9, bb/k, bb/9, hits allowed, hr's allowed, era+, wins should be the last thing they look at. but with this mets lineup pedro could give up 4 runs in 6 and still get the W john
  15. words cannot even begin to describe how good pedro really was. red sox nation wouldn't be red sox nation if it wasn't for pedro. guys like my uncle who stopped watching baseball because he was angry at the strike came back because he wanted to see what everyone was talking about in this guy named pedro. if he truely has learned how to pitch with the low 90's high 80's fb and works with his change and curve i can't see why he doesn't dominate for the rest of his mets contract and maybe further after that. never go against that guy. i learned once. john
  16. the mets would never trade their best prospect and 2 more of their prospects for manny. the mets have stated over and over that mildege is not tradable and i believe them. the trade will also completely wipe out the mets very dry farm. john
  17. you're right, we're talking about fantasy sleepers. but i wasn't saying that vidro is a better fantasy player than utley. i'm saying that vidro is a better real life player. from 2002-2004 his average VORP was 64.9, 47 and 36.9 respectively.. with an injury free season i see no reason why he can't be valued in the high 30's-mid 40's again, minus rage. he's not that old (31) and he still has great plate discipline and sees the ball well. either way, for the future i'de take utley, but for this year and next year i'de take vidro. does anyone know utley's 2005 VORP? my 06 bp is still on the way cus i lumped it with a presale book. john
  18. like i said.. arguably.. i also listed vidro under sleeper if you didn't notice. you can go ahead and take utley before the 7th round. i'll take someone else and take vidro in the 21st round. yeah, utley has more sb's but it's not that special, i look at it as creating outs. rbi's are not really the way to judge how good a player is. rbi's depend on who's in front of you. obp is a better factor. how is utley easily a better hitter than vidro? he has had 158 hits in a season (young career) vidro has put up a 200 hit season and a 190 hit season. it's not like i think vidro is better by a landslide, i think he has the slight edge offensively and is definately a superior fielder. i'll go over my info later and come up with a less half assed argument. john
  19. it fell apart because the marlins laughed at it.. stop overrating your prospects.. hughes while has good stuff still hasn't seen AAA yet. not to mention his arm is made out of glass, they pamper it like there is no tomorrow. john
  20. put down the crack pipe.... who trades their team ace (not just any smuck ace either) and a mid 20's outfielder with 40+ hr power, great place discipline and who is only getting better for a 3 starter at best, a prospect and a guy who's OBP is .330???? that would be the all time most lopsided trade. it's so absurd it's not even funny, i can't believe no one has called you out on that yet. john
  21. my god.. i would love to play fantasy baseball with some of you people.... you have no idea what a sleeper is.. damn! sleeper picks are picks that people either don't know of or don't think will do well. i'm in 6 leagues this year, 5 of them i was in last year and 4 of them i won and the 5th i was in 2nd. last year my sleepers were: street, turnbow, fuentes (all were my last 3 picks) derek lee (i took him in the 12th round) andruw jones (my first OF picked, 6th round) this year my sleepers were/are: liriano (k/9 is filthy, at his age he's ahead of where santana was) mike gonz (being molded into a closer, even if he doesn't close he'll be great for HLDS) hermida (could show a good year) zimmerman (not too big of a sleeper but if you pass up on 3B you can get this nice grab) bill hall (not spectacular but a great backup, plays 2,3 and ss) kenji jojhima (should be a top 5 catcher) craig wilson (he's the real deal, he was being blocked for years by guys like bay etc) oliver perez (he was god awful last year and should bounce back, a good late teen pick if he slides) papelbon (pretty obvious he was going to close if you're a sox fan) nick johnson (very very solid 1b, if healthy will have 30 HR year) jose vidro (arguably the best 2b in the game) jose guillen (contract year!!!!) those were guys that i had picked. there were others i had on my list but either i had their position filled or they were gone. ie: mike lowell, vernon wells. john
  22. i'm glad to see all the great sayings from RSN. petey was like no other pitcher.. i've seen them all (well, not all) clemens was great, but pedro was simply amazing. the most dominating pitcher ever, it's not even close. congrats on 200.. i wish pedro learned how to pitch with the lower velocity in 2004. if he did he most likely would be wearing a red jersey instead of a black one. there is a good article on espn about pedro learning to pitch with his lower velocity, check it out. i see pedro pitching very well for the rest of his contract with the mets. john
  23. i can't say i've ever loved a male that i've never met nor can i say that i have ever hated a person i have yet to meet. john
  24. as of right now we have the 3 coolest names on our team.. coco crisp willy mo pena trot nixon that itself should grant us a WS bid. john
  25. i would be interested too.. but don't count crespo in.. if he loses he won't pay up, i know for a fact... john
