  1. we still have a good amount of time in ortiz's contract.. we should definately wait until the last year to offer any extention.. it would be stupid to act now. john
  2. gammons doesn't know anything.. john p.s.- people, the other teams in the leauge are not charity organizations, they are businesses trying to make money and win it all, just like us. some of the trades you guys have come up with are absolutely absurd.
  3. definately good singning.. it'll probably be a small contract loaded with incentives up to 8/9 mill. smart move considering every 9th batter he'll face is a pitcher. john
  4. schill is OLD!, expect definate declines beckett is still an injury risk wake as a 3rd is no good in the al east papelbon might go into a sophomore slump clement/arroyo will probably be dealt the jays rotation is a good one halladay is a horse burnett is an injury risk lilly is actually a very good pitcher who is still young chacin was a very solid rookie last season towers is a very solid 5th i'de say the jays rotation is the best in the al east, second to the sox if ours is healthy. john
  5. i don't want anything to do with any of those guys.. tejada will cost us an arm and a leg, it's not worth it.. clemens is old.. always a high risk high reward kind of guy, not worth the 18+ mill he'll be asking coco crisp for marte? no way jose... find a stopgap, andruw jones is a free agent after 06. manny ortiz jones talk about a powerpacked middle of the lineup. john jones is a free agent after 07, back to the drawing boards for me..
  6. you hit it right on the nail. some sox fans hate the yankees more than they love the red socks. i for one love that the yankees have a good team and are competitive every year. i wouldn't want the yankees to turn into the devil rays of today. the sox yank rivalry is one of the best in sports, every game is exciting, if the yankees sucked i would actually be upset that the games are less intense. the fact that damon left for the yankees just spices things up even more, i don't hate him for it. i'm glad the yankees signed him. to think that all players should take a hometown discount is silly. guys like hoffman take hometown discounts because they've been a member of the team since they started, they are the face of the orginization. damon is not that guy in boston, our guy was nomar and now is tek. for all the people hating on borass, you guys are morons. if i was a baseball player the first person i would call his bora$$. he's the man, he's the absolute best at what he does. he makes a 8 mill/4 year player worth 10 mill/5 years. how could you hate someone for being the best at what he does, i have the utmost respect for borass. i'm also sick of the 12 million dollars is nothing bs statements. 12 million dollars is something, 12 million is something to bill gates, to ted turner, to trump, to tiger woods, why should it be any different for damon? no matter how rich you are you can always be richer, money is not something anyone gets sick of. to get mad at someone because they "said" they would never be a yankee is silly, that was then this is now. i'm sure everyone has made "promises" that they didn't keep. people forget to realize that these are baseball players, they are humans and humans look after themselves. johnny damon is here to take care of johnny damon, not the little boys and girls who wear his redsox jersey. i'm happy the yankees made the move, yeah they are stronger in 06 and maybe 07, but in 08 and 09 it will come back to haunt them (hopefully). we gain a draft pick for it and it frees up money to sign ANDRUW JONES! pitching wins championships and the yankees have yet to upgrade their starting rotation. everything is possible, even ortiz signing with the yankees. john
  7. 5k was an example, if you do the math it's more like 30%.. so would you take a job that pays 50k in which you have a great time at over a job that pays 65k? no one knows that damon will have less fun in NY than he will in boston. as boston fans we all say that the ny lockerroom is this and that, we don't know what goes on in there. lets assume that the 65k job will be enjoyable, but not overly funfilled like the 50k job. you'de take the 65k job, especially since you can demand for a trade if you don't like it.. i guess i have a different viewpoint towards this because i love the redsox so much more than i hate the yankees. john
  8. there is allready a thread on damon.. if i still had mod powers i would ban you for being stupid. john
  9. the difference is 12 million dollars. TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS. that's more money than you will see in your entire lifetime. you'de be stupid not to take an extra TWELVE million dollars. it's funny how you people speak as if 12 million bucks is nothing.. john
  10. HOLY s***. everyone take a step back. this is johnny damon we are talking about, not barry bonds, not manny, not ortiz, not puljos. why is everyone freaking out about this? this is not the first time someone has left the red sox for more money, it has happen many many times. more recent players are mo vaughn and pedro. if another club offered tek 4 years 48 million he probably would have left too. damon has done everything he can in boston, become one of their better lead off hitters ever, help them reach the alcs twice, helped them win a word series, he's off to other things. he knows that the yankees lineup will be one of the best in the history of the game. those guys are going to break some insane records. i for one am not stressing this at all. i would not have offered damon anything over 3 years 33 mill. we didn't overpay for an aging centerfielder with no arm, it was the correct, smart decision. we basically freed up money to sign a bigger name after 06, mr andruw jones, who is far superior to damon. we also get a draft pick for losing damon. like ORS said, we'll be slightly weaker in 06, but it strengthens our future. don't hate damon, i don't. thank him for all the great time and great moments. he did what ANY of us would do if we knew we were going to decline sometime within the next few years. get the most you can before it's over. who knows what damon has in store for himself after baseball, he might not have a career, he might not gain any significant income to upkeep his current lifestyle, that's where the 12 mill extra comes in handy. i'll never understand why people freak out about free agents leaving. you play for whoever pays you the most.. if you made 50k a year and someone else offered you 55k a year you'de leave in a heartbeat, the same goes for baseball players. hey, pedro going to the mets didn't bother me, there is no way in hell i would even stress a hair on this, yankee or not. john
  11. thanks for summing up the thread for us.. :thumbdown john
  12. that's because we have guys like bill james on our senior advisor staff instead of "old school" scouts who don't know anything. john
  13. this is the make or break season, he'll never earn more than 5 mill if he can't stay healthy for at least 140 games. john
  14. so which one is it.. john
  15. carlos beltran for manny would be one of the worst trades ever. you're trading arguable the best hitter in the game who plays an average left field for an above average cf and an overrated hitter. the guy had an obp of .330 last year, ops was a terrible 774. god he was awful. mike lowell had as many doubles as he did. when you only get on base 192 times in 582 at bats you shouldn't be stealing bases. he was caught 6 times last season. anyone that knows anything about baseball knows that rbi is a garbage stat. you could have bonds batting 4th and end up with zero rbi's all season if the first 3 batters were my grandparents. rbi's depend (a very great deal) on the people that are in front of you. you don't need to steal bases when papi is batting behind you, ask manny! beltran is overrated, overpaid and overhyped. the media talked about him as if he was the next barry bonds. the mets signed him to a huge contract so they could draw more fans to the stadium. he'll score 100+ runs this season, but that won't be because of his SB%, it'll be due to carlos delgado. john
  16. his ceiling is not that high. he's more like a .300 batter, 80 bb, 30 hr power and top 10 defensive 3b in the game. seems more like an eric chavez. you just don't trade away rolen/chipper ceiling 3b, you really shouldn't trade away eric chavez 3b's either. who know's what's going on, i'll wait till it's on espn. dd SUCKS john
  17. cano over street? you've got to be kidding me. street was FAR FAR more impressive than cano. the kid ended up k'ing almost 9/ip and had such great poise. in a few years he'll be one of the elite closers in the game whereas cano will be a very good 2b. john
  18. we traded a backup catcher for an above average 2b. how could you possibly have a problem with that? john
  19. you obviously don't, lets make a list: 1) you think berkman is injury prone 2) you think that drew is not injury prone 3) you wouldn't trade manny for berkman and lidge 4) berkman has played more 154 (ish) games/season than manny even though manny's career is twice as long as berkmans. 5) everything else that comes out of your mouth john
  20. dirtdog SUCKS. they are the least credible source of information. they make up crap so people will read their crappy website. they know nothing about baseball, they are the biggest hypocrites in baseball and their website layout is terrible. the sox would NEVER trade marte and mota for crisp. at first i i thought you were taking them seriously, thank god for our last few words. john
  21. yeah, and he picked the worst year to do it. i drafted him 2 years in a row hoping he would finally break out. he waited until the year i didn't. garland is not an elite pitcher but should be able to put up half decent numbers, he's still on the young side and can still improve. overrated? yes, if you think he's an elite. fluke, no. john
  22. why not? if he can hit over 15 hr's a season, get on base at a .380+ clip and fields well i see no reason why he can't stay for at least 4 more years. especially at league min. john
  23. disagree, called out, whatever. he stated how he didn't understand why you would want hinske or hillenbrand over youk and i told him that it was because you didn't know/understand baseball. seriously though, why anyone would rather those 2 over youk is silly. even in his first season he put up an excellent OBP only to better that the season after (granted very limited playing time). thinking outside the box would be to keep youk and give him a chance, not trade him for 2 lesser players. there is nothing to forget about, you called me a moron for stating something true, i'm not holding any grudges, you're the one that flipped out. john
  24. beltran, andruw jones and edmonds says HI. john
