  1. although i wanta drag on the peace pipe, and will drag on it i want to make one thing clear. there is a difference between your pedro ragging and my tek ragging. you rag on pedro because he's an "*******". which you don't really have any stats to back up i rag on tek that he's on a "decline". which i do have stats to backup. that is the difference. but if it makes you feel better, i'll chill for a while, i'm supposed to be studying for four finals anyways. john
  2. awsome info zen: i'm not liking this renteria signing. i friggan feel like i'm cheering for the yankees when we sign every so many stars and push our payroll higher and higher. what's wrong with building from the bottom and winning with guys that we picked and "raised". it's pretty sad that trot was the only player that has gone through our system on that ws team. john p.s.- in responce to crespo (so i don't have to make a new post): Because that would make way too much sense man. i'de rather see better pitching over hitting anyday.
  3. check out that link i've provided. it shows all the teams tek has played against. the teams he's batted well against generally are known or do have poor pitching. the teams he bats poor against generally are known or do have good pitching. i'de say the yanks have had good pitching over teks career, same with atlanta, who has had one of the best, if not the best staff over teks career. same with oakland and seattle. look at the teams he's batted well against. tampa, angels, chicago, KC, Guardians, detroit, twins, blue jays. all teams with subpar pitching. throughout teks career. john

  5. tek can't have great rbi or HR numbers. he doesn't have the power, nor does he have the ability to. he's also insanely terrible on the road, compared to at home: Home 420 1322 193 395 105 5 44 212 151 273 8 6 .299 .376 .486 .861 Away 412 1386 170 338 77 2 53 206 147 303 13 7 .244 .320 .417 .737 i don't want to cluster this thread with numbers that don't fit across the screen: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5921...er&type=Batting look at his numbers against teams with good pitching. disregard a few of the teams after atlanta. it is pretty clear that tek his for better average against teams with poorer pitching (DUHH). yeah that's obvious, but his dropoff is much greater than most guys that bat .300. he'll bat .350 against teams like KC who have no pitching and bat .228 and .194 against teams that have good pitching such as NYY and ATL. i don't really know how you guys can say tek is not on his decline, do you think he can/will have a better year than the one he has had this past year? john
  6. c'mon, not to be picking on you but the last posts you made were talking about how dumb my comments were. hanley is one of the top 30 prospects in the game. from everything i've read (wish i could see him play) he's everything nomar was and more with the exception of power. i honestly doubt he'll be able to hit for ave like nomar has but i could dream, can't i? i like the singing of rent, but then again, i don't. why do we need another "big bat" (not really that big) in the lineup? we've only had the most RS the past 2 years in a row. if hanley is everything they say he is i would much rather have him for 6 years at league minimum. even if you do you move hanley to 2b what are you doing to do with dustin pedrodia (sp) when he's ready? ss is filled, 2b is filled. LF and RF are most likely locked up. are we going to move hanley from a position he's comfy at (2b) to the outfield and put dustin at 2nd? it seems more and more obvious that one of the two will be traded if we sign renteria. who knows, maybe theo has something in the works with the a's and one of the big 3. that would be pretty interesting but i'm not sure i like it. giving up a future (possibly great) ss for 1 year of tim hudson or 2 years of zito or mulder. yeah, we COULD sign them to extensions, but that is no gaurantee since the sox are supposed to be trying to cut down on payroll. john
  7. good point. but what if shoppach is ready by 05 and we need another SP to push for the playoffs? it is possible that one of our starters could get injured. what if tek shows that he's on the decline immediately. but then again, those are all what ifs. we would also have to give manny and trot a no trade. i honestly don't see the team trading manny anyways, nor would i want to see the team trade trot. not at his salary (4.5-6 a year). i think he only made 4.5 this year. mill that is. but the point is that you would have to give them a NTC, therefore making them untradable. you really don't want too many of those on your team no matter how you look at it. john
  8. sara- you're obviously still upset because i called you out on hating on pedro and giving nothing but love to tek. lets get some facts straight. this is a discussion board. where people TALK and state what they think is going to happen. i'm obviously not theo epstein and what i say obviously does not change who the sox do or do not sign. i don't know who really is on the hunt for pavano but i'm sure the sox management knows a lot more, therefore they went after someone like wells. like i stated, "IMO" that means, in my opinion. do you know what an opinion is? here, i'll help you out: o·pin·ion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-pnyn) n. Not only that his bat speed has decreased every year. toward the end of the season teks numbers get worse and worse. 3-year splits by month (OPS - K's - RBI's): March: 1.500, 1, 0 April: .859, 40, 32 May: .788, 53, 40 June: .822, 57, 30 July: .885, 59, 46 August: .850, 65, 48 September: .721, 50, 23 October: .143, 2, 0 dropping off at the end of the season is probably the worst thing. overpaying for an AGING catcher is the worst move red sox management could make. i could see signing tek at a reasonable price, but 9 mill per? no way. there is no need to sign an aging catcher that is on his decline when there is basically a carbon copy of him that will be ready in about 2 years (shoppach). on paper it doesn't show that tek is on the decline, other than K's. i guess i'll have to make an arguement for it.   16. i've said it time in and time out... we won't hurt losing a bat or two. we've only had the most RS 2 years in a row. getting better pitchers will make the difference. i'm not sure if we'll pull off pavano if we sign tek. i'm gearing at letting tek go, make sure we sign pavano and save the rest for next seasons singnings. john

  21. signing pavano WILL make them a contender.. if they gave the yankees as hard of a time as they gave the sox their record would be much different. the yankees have like a .75 win % at camden. the orioles are a dangerous team, they are 1-2 good starters away from being very dangerous. john

  24. i prefer his job to be a bench player that bats .200 on the yankees @ 15+ mill a year. i don't know what you're thinking.. the steriod issue is pretty sketchy, who knows who might be on steriods.. david ortiz etc etc.. you just don't really know. i'm not saying ortiz is on steriods, i'm saying he could be and we just don't know.. john
  25. nice post schilling.. to further a point you made: you guys need to realize that pitching is the ONLY thing pedro knows how to do. he doesn't know how to run a business, he doesn't know how to fix computers, to fix a car, to do anything. pitching is his life. do you realize that once he retires he's not going to be able to do ANYTHING that gets him income? yeah he can sign a few baseballs here and there, but that does NOT support you. in order for him to live the lifestyle he's living today he has to get as many years as possible on his contract and sign for as much as possible. if you were in his shoes you would want the same thing. that's the reason i don't hate on tek. yeah i think what he's asking for is rediculous, but i understand that he wants to keep living the lifestyle he's living how when he's done with his career. he has 3-4 kids (i'm pretty sure he has 3) and he wants them to live an above par life. it's really as simple as that. but that's the difference between tek and pedro. the money pedro is asking for is at least possible. i mean seriously now, "if" his era stays consistent (for him that's a 2.7) you don't think he's worth 14 mill a season? i'de pay 14 mill a year for a 2.7 era pitcher. especially with pedro, you'de know you'de be top 3 in the al (if not league) in K's and pretty low in HR and BB's. tek on the other hand is (was) asking for 5 years 55 million with a no trade clause. which is absolutely LUDACRIS. that's the difference my friends. look past all that media bs about pedro and how much of a team player tek is. if he's such a "team player" he wouldn't be asking for something that rediculous. i can see why he wants the years, the money, and the ntc but the amount and level of each is way too extreme. i mean seriously, when he's done he can take his engineering degree and get a job (he won't have to, but COULD) whereas pedro will have nothing. that right there, is the difference. john p.s.- don't get me wrong, i don't hate on tek, i've been cheering for him since we got him and lowe from seattle. this all started because some (cough, sarahsoxfan, cough) was bashing my homeboy pedro, yet never touched on tek because he "acted like a pro"
