matt mantei hands down. if this guy stays healthy and plays to potential we have the best setupman to closer combo in the league. renteria is most definately not the best aquisition. look at who we had before him, nomar and cabrera. both who are at par or better than renteria. nomar is a lost cause for us, but for 8 mill (this season contract) he'll put up better numbers at a better price than renteria. cabrera who will be making 2 mill less per year than renteria will also be putting up numbers close to him (watch the ballpark factor). as of now our best pickup is probably a pitcher, which one it is i'm not so sure just yet. but i think that if they are all healthy and play to potential i'de pick mantei just for the awsome 1-2 late inning punch with foulke. john

yeah, because dirt dog is a great site.... they have more sides on topics than kerry does. one day it's great to have a-rod, the next day it's bad. they are extremely biased and just hate on a lot of things. nomar did a lot for the sox, he left in a shitstorm but what can you really expect of the situation? if you were a top 2 ss in the league and the team you helped build wanted to trade you for the #1 ss in the game you would feel the same way. not to mention he heard it via radio on his honeymoon. john

pretty much right on the nail with the exception of being stronger. steriods DO make you stronger as long as you have a good workout. there are many types of steroids, the kinds body builders take to increase muscle mass to an insane level and the kind bonds uses to speed recovery, therefore also increasing muscle mass and therefore being stronger while not sacrificing as much mobility. either way you look at it bonds is a monster, w/o roids he's a monster, with roids he's a monster. steroids didn't help bonds hit 700 as much as the media proclaims. the only thing i can see steroids doing for bonds is providing longevity. i think he's just that special case who peeks later in his career. the average player might not peak until his mid-late 20's and decline in his 30's but that doesn't mean everyone is like that. bonds is a student of the game and gets better and better. one thing that hasn't gotten better is his relationships with the media and how the communicates, i really think that's what kills him. no matter what people say the past few seasons from bonds have absolutely been amazing, most definately the most feared hitter pitchers could possibly face, there is no arguement against that. ruth was good, but put him in todays game and he would make nixon look like bonds. facts are facts, he took steroids to increase his longevity, i'm not saying that i would too but i can see where he's coming from. you gotta look at both sides of things. ie: people who kill minks for a living, some people find that it is insanely cruel and wish death upon fur farmers, look at their side of things. either kill minks and feed your family or not kill minks and don't feed your family. john

yeaht, at arlington. yankee stadium hasn't had a righty 40+ guy since mantle is 61 i believe, he hit something like 50+ and he was a switch hitter. it's not easy for righties to hit hr's in yankee stadium... 35 hr in yankee stadium via a-rod could very well be translated to 40-45+ in arlington. btw, johnny damon with 20hr's in the leadoff spot? i don't see him matching last years numbers, it would be great, but i don't see it happening. bellhorn won't hit .250ish. he'll be in the .270 range. the starters look good, if they ended up like that i would be pleased, and they are predicting good thigns for mantie, knocks on wood. john

it doesn't take that much to learn how to take roids properly. whoever canseco got it from probably taught him. i'm sure he at least did SOME research before he injected himself. it's not that hard. just follow cycles. the more cycles you do the "bigger" you will get. enchancing your performance isn't cheating. at least not imo. everyone wants to be better. some people are genetically gifted, others are not. why should (pre roids) bonds be able to hit 30+ hr's a year and lets say renteria can't. it's a tough topic, just like abortion. anyone can play devils advocate and argue both sides. and here i go. i personally don't think steroids makes that much of a difference at all. yeah, your body heals faster, but it's not like a friggan miracle drug. steriods only works as well as your workout plan. you can be on roids and lift once a week and not get big at all. roids allows you to train harder, MUCH harder due to the fact that you recover much faster. that's it for now, time for organic chemister!!!
