i think something we are forgetting is how fortunate we really are. we have 3 guys who are almost locks as all stars every year in manny, ortiz and schilling. some teams only have one and that's because it's required that everyteam only has 1. we should be grateful that we have a great closer such as foulke. even though he hasn't been pitching too well any team in the league would love to add him to their roster. we need to realize that we, unlike the yankees do not have an seemingly limitless budget. personally, i would like to see our guys get healthy, i think the team we are fielding is good enough to win it all, getting new players (batters) isn't my way of doing things, hence why i was never a fan of getting renteria. hopefully schilling can rest up well and miller can be strong when he returns, maybe wells too. john

i think embree has just been having a few bad breaks. his k/9 ratio is almost double what it was last year (granted smaller sample size, the rate is double which is a good sign). his era is 4.5 as of date. which is slightly above the low 4 we are used to. i wouldn't expect too much of embree, 50-60 ip tops with a 4-4.3 era and about 6k/9. which doesn't "suck" but isn't the best. we can't have the best everything, we're not the yankees afterall :-D embree cannot possibly be the worst pitcher you have ever seen, how about kim, ha! embree is the man, him and timlim were so awsome in the 03 playoffs it's not even funny, back when he threw 98 :-(. john

Cabrera (LAA - SS) 70 380 19/69 8 2 7 1 .275 .815 that's their numbers so far this season. renteria is an upgrade over cabrera, but not by as much as most people think. given a full year at fenway i think cabrera would have really put up some good numbers. when it's all said and done i don't think renteria in fenway is that much of an upgrade over cabrera in fenway, not 2 mill per at least. but i guess we'll never know because cabrera was never given a full season in fenway. john

tek has 3 Hr's allready.. i think he's actually hitting a bit better than he normally should. he'll slump sooner or later. john

noah, pedro will K more than 210.. he had 227k last year in the AL. as of yesteday he was averaging 12.27K/9. IF pedro pitches 200 innings (assuming he keeps this ratio) he will K 273. i doubt he'll keep this ratio, i'm thinking it'll drop to the 10.5k/9 range which will give him 233. if he pitches 215 innings he'll end up with 251k's at the 10.5 ratio and 293 at the 12.27 ratio. filthy john

foulke's fastball is not super impressive, it's not his numero uno k pitch. he utilizes his awsome changeup to k players out, therefore does not need an overpowering fastball. 87 is definately a bit slower than he normally throws though.. i wouldn't be worried about foulke though, he's probably the last player i'de be worry about on the sox. john

you have to prove it throughout the whole season. the NL to the AL is most certainly a jump. every 9th batter is not the pitcher. imagine facing nixon, or bellhorn in the 9th hole instead of schilling. it's a big difference, in fact, depending on the team, it's a HUGE difference. john

pedro is the best pitcher that ever has and ever will wear a sox uniform (IMO). he earned every penny of his contract and did everything he could for boston. the media trashes him so bad, especially dan shittyhairman. i haven't bought a globe in YEARS, refuse to read them too. the herald isn't as bad imo. i actually read that article and have it clipped on my sox wall. i personally don't think it made pedro sound like a bad guy, in fact i thought the globe did a good job showing that pedro is not at fault, he just did what was best for him. it's foxsports that made the herald look bad, they took snips here and there and put in their own words. you guys gotta realize that this is the media. they take non stories, not offensive stuff and turn it into trash. the herald article made pedro sound like a good guy and fox sports took snips from that and made him sound like a bad guy.. john

as much as we all love damon we should understand that unless his asking price is reasonable he should be let go. damon is going to want at least a 4 year deal in the 10+ per year range. i wouldn't offer that to him.. unless we get a hometown discount he's good as gone. i don't see him going to the yankess, i see him using the yankees for leverage to get 12 mill a year to them and give us a hometown discount of 10 mill per year, which is too much anyways. still, it's too early to think about this stuff, lets just hope he has a great season. john
