  1. you mean win the alcs in dramatic fashion over the yankees. the ws was not that dramatic, we swept the cards. john
  2. i don't know why everyone is so quick to pick the sox as al east winners. the yankees have won it basically every year since i was 9 with the exception of 3 years. who am i to say that they won't do it again? until the sox man up and de-throne the yankees they will be the al east champs. i think if we have a healthy miller, wells and clement stay healthy and schilling recovers quickly and none of them have dissappointing seasons we def have the chance. john
  3. i totally see where you're coming from. BUT you gotta realize that there is some bias coming from that espn episode. i mean how would they look if they didn't condone steroids, if they said it barely made a difference? people would complain if tomorrow was the last day of earths existance. it is proven (too lazy to find link) that the gains from steroids adds about 3 yards to the distance a baseball is hit. that does make a difference between warning track balls and home runs. but it's not something that changes the record books dramatically. take steroids away from bonds and he still has 550-600 + hr's. take them away from canseco and he will still have over 400, take them away from mcgwire and he still has over 500. these guys are monsters and hit hr's period. the arguement is for guys like renteria. his warning track balls are now hr's. but how often is that? so he'll get a max (pretty extreme max imo) of 10 hr's more per season. that's not something that changes the game. people make steriods out to be the worst thing in the world. it isn't, taken correctly in the proper doses can really be benificial. there are side effects but anything overdone does also. many pro bodybuilders are on steriods, they are not sick, falling apart or get cancer from steroids. the reason is because they know how to take the drugs and in the right doses. i've contemplated taking steroids (yes OMFG i'm a bad person). but the fact that i would have to stick a needle in myself is just gross. i hate needles. i can play the devils advocate all day long on this issue, i have midters to study for. i'll get back with info on how sterioids work and how they can be done properly. if you want to learn how steroids work check out these forums. http://www.bodybuilding.com and for more serious lifters http://www.chadnicholls.net/forums/index.php? aka muscle mayhem forums. john p.s.- i used to lift pretty seriously, hence why i contemplated steroids (i was obsessed with gains)..
  4. canseco says person, a b c d e f g took steroids.. guess what? i friggan believe the guy. he states that he's the "godfater" of steroids. the big cahuna that started it all. i also believe that. i give MAD props to canseco. someone is saying something. i don't care what reason he's saying it for (in his case, the bling). the fact is that he's saying something. something that A LOT of people know but are not willing to say. to quote pavano: "There are certain things that belong with us ballplayers". what the hell does that mean? it's ok to take steroids as long as the fans don't know? get over it guys. believe it not what canseco is doing is a good thing. he's exposing the mlb for the frauds they are. mlb knew about steroids, they didn't care. after the strike of 94 they let anything slide as long as the fans came back. he's saying the unsayable. he's stepping up imo. i'm glad someone is spilling the beans on what really goes on. but on another note, i personally don't think steroids makes someone better at baseball. you're stronger, you recover faster, but that doesn't neccessarily mean you're a better baseball player. other sports, maybe, baseball? imo, not much. baseball is judge by your bat, you can be the best fielder ever but if you can't bat over .250 (ie pokey reese) you will not make the big bucks. steriods does not increase your batting average, it does not increase the amount of walks you take, it does not increase the amount of hr's you get by much at all (if you can't hit the ball in the 1st place it doesn't matter what your bat speed is). john
  5. the pro bowl is a selection based on statistics. not where the team ends up. kevin faulk was in the superbowl and helped his team get there, does that mean he should start at fullback for the afc team? of course not. vick was voted in because of his hype. john
  6. it is the legs that make him SLIGHTLY above average. add his rushing and passing yards together and he still does not break 3350 total yards. don't forget he had more fumbles than anyone and is tied for most fumble losses with kyle boller. he threw a whopping 14 td's. that's 6 less than brian greise who started 4 less games. don't tell me that he rushes for a lot of td's. he ran for 3. giving this qb a total of 17 touchdowns.. vick will NEVER become an eliete qb. i don't see it happening. he loves to show off and run, hence all his fumbles. his body can only take so much and his legs will only last so long. like i said before, he's the next kordell stewart. john
  7. why is vick in the pro bowl? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/bycategory?cat=Passing&conference=NFC&year=season_2004&timeframe=All&qualified=1&sort=49&old_category=Passing god damnit. farve, delhomme, bulger and even testeverde should have gotten the nod over him.. oh man, i can't wait till his legs are done and people will finally see that he is nothing but an average qb. john
  8. it's a stupid f***ing baseball. i could care less who had it.. give it to bin laden for all i care.. s***. there are people on the planet fighting for a loaf of bread because they are so poor and here we are talking about a baseball. A BASEBALL. i can see if he stole the trophy and didn't return it, but it's a BASEBALL. i f***ing hate dan shitnessy. john p.s.- sorry for the rant, i just spent 13 hours studying organic chemistry, the immune and respiratory system.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1988918 not a lot of publicity so far.. i think it's a pretty damn good signing. good deal for the astros. he'll probably put up better numbers than clemens for less than half the price. john
  10. giggles... john
  11. that guy plays for the cubs.. john
  12. by far the worste arguement ever. it's like: bsr: hey yanksin2010, you're old yanksin2010: not when i was 30 he's obviously talking about the yanks and sox today. what their payroll was during their dynasty run has nothing to do with what he said. idiot. john
  13. i thought everything about this bowl was good. the halftime was much better than the last 2 (even though i'm not a pm fan). the commercials were pretty good too. most if not all of the bud lights were funny, especially the one with the airplane. the american trust (or whatever) with the car was funny also. john
  14. one of the better football games i have seen. john
  15. 15 mill a year for mags.. if i was a baseball player i would beg boras to be my agent. the guy makes things happen. john
  16. RAWR!!!!! john p.s.- we should start making plump t-shirts. i know a company back home that does good stuff for decent prices.
  17. ben sheets is going to be better than santana. i also don't think santana will continue to put up numbers like he did in the 2nd half of 2004. we'll see though. john
  18. lol, i dig that reply. john
  19. how so? considering javy had better pre al numbers than pavano in all but 1 category that counted. john
  20. 6.81 k per 9 isn't terrible. but then again, i thought we were talking about carl pavano. on wait, we were. nice try though john
  21. you're right, he didn't rely on K's he relied in groundouts and flyouts. he and yankee fans are in for a rude awakening. being able to K is very important in pitching. it gives you that edge, that dimension, it makes hitters think more. if you can't K a hitter you won't be able to make them chase balls as often, swing at bad pitches as often. pavano is no greg maddux. john
  22. you guys have no faith whatsoever. javy didn't put up great numbers, he didn't even put up good numbers. but hell, he's still young. i know many yankee fans who think trading for the unit was a bad idea. who knows.. it might be great. the point is that 2010 thinks that javy sucks. i'm sure he was one of those fans who was saying javy was the 2nd coming of pedro. just like how pavano is going to be great. 10 bucks 2010 hates pavano by the end of the season. john
  23. a 3.48 era (pre asb i believe) is nowhere NEAR the second coming of pedro.. neither was his whip, walk, k/9, k/bb etc etc etc etc. hammer, that's my point, sorta. when he was doing half decent and before he was a yankee every yank fan thought he was the greatest thing in the world. now because of one bad 1/2 season he's going to be terrible for the rest of his career? if that's the case carl pavano might be a rude awakening. javy pre american leauge 2003 MON 34 34 13 12 0 4 1 230.2 198 93 83 28 57 241 3.24 1.11 .229 pavano pre american league 2004 FLA 31 31 18 8 0 2 2 222.1 212 80 74 16 49 139 3.00 1.17 .253 as you can see javy clearly has better numbers.. everything with the exception of ER's.. which can be affiliated with the marlins superior infield. pavano also had more wins, but that doesn't mean jack in my book. john
  24. yeah, pretty much everyone at the YES boards thought that AFTER the all star break. before the ASB and before he played his first game he was the second coming of pedro. john
  25. don't expect much from this, he's 37 and his numbers are in the japan leagues. imo he's going to be bullpen backup and nothing more. john
