  1. gibson also pitched on a higher mound and pedro is pitching in a hitters era john
  2. nice to see another pedro lover on the boards. john
  3. i'm sick of the carl pavano has a career era this and that. here's a newsflash, prior to this year ben sheets had a career era in the 4.5's! pavano is not a crap pitcher. i'm not sure he's worth 10 mill per but i'll tell you one thing, my fav pitcher ever isn't worth the 13 he's getting. that doesn't mean pavano is crap though. i don't think he'll be able to put up an era lower than 3.4 but hey, 3.45 era isn't too shabby these days. john
  4. bingo! dan shitface sucks balls john
  5. i agree with many of you guys, there has only been one time where i've chanted yankees suck, the time when a-rod slapped the ball out of arroyo's hand.. that game that is. john
  6. his better years came with the sox, he'll always be known as a sox. john
  7. chargers over jets colts over broncos seahawks over rams pakcers over vikings steelers over chargers pats over colts eagles over rams packers over falcons pats over steelers packers over eagles pats over packers in a rematch of the 98 superbowl john
  8. see that button next to the "a" key? tap that once. john
  9. anybody and their mothers could have guessed that. it's a 50 50 shot. either he signs or he doesn't sign.. the only credible source i'll use ever is espn, maybe mlb.com but they are usually slower than espn. john
  10. yeah, and i'm calling out tim wakefield for cy young. john
  11. wow, named captain, what an honor. like many others i hope the C isn't worn on the field. it's really just silly imo. a captain in baseball is more of an honor that a position or role. a captain isn't anymore important to his team than a captain in other sports. good signing, expensive but good non the less. tek will not be the next fisk, fisk was a damn immortal. john
  12. i actually voted bruins.. the bruins canadian days were absolutely nuts.. hockey is such an amazing sport. it needs to come back, this strike crap sucks.. sox beating yankees in the alcs imo was much crazier than sox beating the cards in the series. john
  13. ltes compare tek and kendall: tek struck out THREE TIMES more than jason kendall in 2004, that's rediculous. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5562...er&type=Batting just look at those splits. NOW THAT is a good hitting catcher. consistantly having a good OBP against teams with good pitching, not just teams with bad pitching. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5921...er&type=Batting look at teks splits. he consistantly has good - very good OBP against teams with poor pitching, but once facing teams like NYY, OAK, SEA, ATL his OBP drops dramatically. don't get me wrong, i love tek, but 10 mills a year is overpaying no matter how you look at it. he's an above average catcher that is overrated by boston/sox fans. it's a good sign, but at 10 mill i think it's too much. but if that's all that is going to be on the market (decent that is) for the next few years then i'll take what we can get, especially if it's tek. hopefully shoppach will not be a bust and will be ready to take the role of starting catcher when and if tek gets too worn to play. john
  14. indeed, i do love tek and he is the man but 10 mill a year is too much, a 4 year contract is too long. i would have done 3 years 10 per without much worries. but at 4 years i wouldn't have topped 8 per. but then again what's 8 mill to the sox owners. of all the things you stated about tek, the one thing i don't agree with is leadership. i just don't feel that baseball has leaders (sorry mr robinson). you can't pump a guy up to throw harder, you can't pump a guy up to hit better. baseball is a sport where you are born / practice insanely hard to get the skills you have. it's not like basketball or football where adrenalin can make you better. john
  15. it's insanely high. we're going to regret it. tek is not a great hitter, he's not even an above average hitter. he's an average hitter that is boston's "goldenboy" as zenny likes to put it. he's being insanely overpaid. john
  16. definately not worth it.. we pay trot 4.5 mill a year to be a top 5 player OBP wise. definately not smart to rid of that on top of the best backup catcher and a good prospect.. nahh, i'll pass john
  17. i just spent another 180 bucks on x-mas gifts. i'm not in the mood to argue.. :-( john
  18. no way john
  19. i'm done talking with yankee fans on this board. they are absolutely f***ing retarted. why is it so necessary to come to the sox forum and spend time here. it's so stupid. i would never waste my time in a yankee forum. you guys are stupid, period. you have no facts to back anything up. everything we say we back up with facts, numbers speak. john
  20. yet you haven't provided anything that shows us he's a better pitcher. john
  21. first of WINS DON'T MEAN s***. 2nd of all, nolan ryan is such an overrated pitcher. when i think of all time pitchers i think of. pedro maddux gibson kofax clemens john
  22. i know, what was i thinking. mussina is so much better than pedro. name one pitcher that put up better numbers than pedro. john
  23. yeah? when a-rod was 21, he hit 36 hr, had 123 rbi's, stole 15 bases, had an ave of .358, opb of .414, slugged .631, and had an ops of 1.045. he also had over 200 hits, 215 to be exact, had 54 doubles, and scored 141 runs. that is a great player, not beltran. beltran has had very very good years, he has NEVER had a great offensive year. he hasn't even had a great defensive year. until the thought of beltran being traded he was relatively not known. he is a ONE TIME ALL-STAR. that was THIS YEAR, when he was traded. then again all star games doesn't mean a lot, but really, if you REALLY REALLY were that good you'de be an allstar more than once. john p.s.- in some thread i said beltran has never had a top 10 mpv, i take that back, in 2003 he was 9th in the AL.
  24. every mlb player can get on base, steal, and field. if they can't they wouldn't be playing. beltran will never give you more than 50 hr's a year, he'll never bat more than .310, never get on base .400, never slug .600, and will never have an ops of 1.000. if he's such a great cf why has he NEVER won a gold glove? OVERRATED john
