  1. hammer, there is nothing wrong with discussion, i'm in favor of it. but when people start fantasizing about trading ie: mirabelli and nixon for derek lee just because it was "rumored" in some paper i begin to wonder how stupid some sox fans are.. john
  2. he's not terrible, millar like for most of his time but the past few years have seen a dramatic decrease in f% (yes, i know there are other stats to look at) but that could be due to small sample size and injuries. i don't see how signing him to a small 1 yr contract could hurt. we would platoon him with youk (poor kid) and see how it plays out. manny, ortiz, big hurt in the middle of the lineup.. that would be devastating, assuming the big hurt isn't big on hurting himself (i made a lame funny) john
  3. bingo... to all sox fans, if you really think the yankees are losing money you are on crack. i live in boston and when i go to any sporting store there are always as many yankee caps as there are sox caps.. the yankee market is massive, they don't lost money. john
  4. show me one credible source that the phillies will trade burrell and abreu for manny, that would be a stupid f***ing trade for the p's. people need to realize that you can't believe everything you read. dan i can't write for shitnessy can post that there is a rumor (with no credible source) that the sox want to trade manny to the yankees for a-rod. does this mean that everyone should be talking about it? hell no, it's complete utter bs. unless it's on espn.com espnnews, coming out of luc's mouth or maybe rotoworld you shouldn't believe an ounce of it. espn, the world leader in sports is always the first to hear about these things. a manny trade is tough, but can happen as long as the sox don't expect the world in return unless they are eating at least 5 mill of that contract. he's a great ball player but no one is going to give up a well above average and an above average player for a very well above average player. it's stupid, unless the sox having contract for breakfast ,lunch and dinner john
  5. that's a grand statement.. especially when there are guys out there like lidge, gagne, street who are still very young and have proven to be dominant closers.... john
  6. you are on crack... both those deals are absurd and will never happen. john
  7. you guys need to stop dreaming.. we are not going to get zito, not for wells and unproven talent aka minors. zito is a stud, he had a rough first half but he was a very good pitcher afterwards. i'm still trying to figure out this EL 3/21 deal.. john
  8. if dunn brought the k's down he'd be barry bonds... john
  9. as we all know doing well in the minors does not mean that you will do well in the majors. the level of competition is far to different. what you speak of is very one sided. yes, santana could become the next halladay etc etc, but he could also become the next one year wonder. you can't trade david wells for jimmy rollins but you also can't say that guzman will be the next rollins. trading away wells for a prospect is pretty silly imo (unless he's serious about retiring, which i doubt). keep the proven starter, i don't believe in too much pitching. john
  10. first off, can anyone in this forum spell anymore? the spelling here is just piss poor. secondly, have you really seen vlad play recently? manny isn't the best fielder on earth but if he tried i bet he could get to a fly ball faster than vlad. vlad has no range whatsoever, just a cannon for an arm, an inaccurate arm that is. his defence is not good. who knows how much longer those knees can hold up. john
  11. don't get me wrong, javy has potential and is still young but ease up on the all star this and all star that. the all star game is a joke, just like most of the awards given out for baseball. players are voted into the all star game by fans. making an all star game means that you are popular and have decent enough stats to be voted in. good players who have bad years always get voted in, it happens all the time and it doesn't mean crap, don't use the all star game to show that a player is good. use stats. with all that said, i would welcome javy to boston with open arms. it's a bit of a chance but i don't see it as much more of a risk than clements contract. john
  12. that clearly will not work. manny's salary is more than double the salary of zito and swisher. the a's are definately not about 20 mill per year sluggers, even if it was the babe himself. it's silly for us to think that a reasonable trade will happen with manny. his contract really puts the other team in the drivers seat. talent wise manny sizes up with almost anyone in the league, but his average range in left field (even at fenway) and his price tag will really make things difficult. do not expect to recieve two above average players for about 10 mill a piece for manny plus a prospect. it's just not worth it unless it's some top prospect like lester, maybe even papelbon (not really considered a spect anymore), hansen etc. john
  13. you want jim thome? an aging player who is being shopped around because a rookie can play his position better than he can? bad idea. john
  14. typical of a yankee fan to find a sox forum to check if the fans are in panic mode or not. as stated 14-2 is the same as 3-2. we are down by ONE game. did we not come back 0-2 to beat oakland in 2003? did we not come back from 0-3 to beat the yankees then go on to sweep the cards in the ws? the yankees were the biggest chokers in the history of sports last year, zip it up. john
  15. chances are that not all of them are starters and chances are that not all of them will be the studs we want them to become. if it does happen we would have had all the luck on our side. john
  16. keep it civilized people john
  17. like the admin said, he pitched an unofficial perfect game. it was when he was with the expos. it was broken up/loss in the 10th by his reliever. john
  18. This contest really annoys me. I always type well, with the exception that I never capitalize letters. Damnit! john
  19. done mug kinda ugly though.. i was hoping it was not plastic. john
  20. everyone should clean their vages.. simple as that. the fact is that 99% of the people are upset that manny wants to be traded, 1% of the people are upset that he wouldn't play. the media in boston blows everything out of proportion. one minute manny is the man, next minute manny is the devil. it was like that with pedro also. people seriously need to stop reading the boston globe and herald for sox information. just watch the games and make your own damn conclustions, half those sports writers have no idea what's going on and the other half barely know what's going on. i don't understand why everyone is stressing so badly over this situation. today i went out for a run with my gf, bbq'ed up some food on the grill and now i'm painting the bathroom with my housemates drinking beers. we are all sox fans and not once have we bitched about the manny situation, we actually joked about it. relax people, everything will turn out to be ok. john
  21. the mets are stupid, but not stupid enough to give up their young 3b also... john
  22. a-rod the best player in the game.. arguably, but it's still very hard to argue against it. i don't see anyone with his abilities. i had rull respect of him until he didn't fess up to being a bitch about the slap. all i wanted to hear from him was "sorry, it was a heat of the moment mistake". john
  23. actually hexum says: fool me once, shame on thee, fool me again, shame on me. john
  24. that's weird because i know i have and i know many friends who have waited in line and have been able to get tickets for sox/yanks at FENWAY PARK, which has a capacity of no more than 36k (roughly). i also know for a fact that yankee fans can wait in line to get yank/sox tickets at yankee stadium which has a capacity of about 54K+. when you wait in line you get them for face value, it's been done. sold out doesn't mean that people can't return their tickets etc. scalpers are study, i've never purchased a ticket for more than face value, it's stupid and it's supporting something very wrong. tickets are not hard to come by if you just try. john
