  1. if he has really improved offensively (obp of .362, last season) he is allready far superior to renteria .33X obp last year. trading for lugo, would also cost us a whole lot less than trading for tejada... i'm honestly not even worried about the SS hole right now. why stress it, the management will do something and i'll have something to talk about afterwards :-) john
  2. guapo, i could honestly give you all the answers, my baseball prospectus 2005 sits right next to my laptop but i just woke up and i'de much rather eat breakfast and head into town to see my girl. i will give you an in depth answer later tonight (unless i head up to killington ;-) john
  3. although that would be more than enough to get it done i would never do it. don't get me wrong, manny, ortiz, tejada is an amazing 1-2-3, one of the greatest all time if it were to ever happen. BUT, as we all know, pitching wins championships.. ask the yankees who have jeter, a-rod, sheffield, giambi and matsui in their lineup. john
  4. although i'm very happy to see stats like WARP appear i can't help myself but laugh. there is a better place for that stuff, i call it baseball.com aka netsports. i'de say a good 60% of the people here thinks soriano is awsome, 80% thinks that the rangers got ripped off in the trade, 95% don't understand that obp is much more important than average and 99.5% have absolutely no clue what warp, vorp, dips etc are. john
  5. all lowell has to do is get on base as much as millar did last season (.350) and he will allready be worth it. getting base more most likely results in more runs scored, he had 36 doubles last year, all those flyouts to left field are not hits off the monster. i like lowell as a sox and welcome him with open arms. john
  6. and you are basing that on what? a sample size of 25? like i have stated about very clearly, there are many many variables as to why a s***** baseball player like enrique wilson (below are career numbers) can do well against the most dominant pitcher of our generation. to honestly believe that enrique wilson will "most likely" bang a double against pedro in his prime is just silly. you'de lose everything (twice!) in vegas if you bet like that. 9 Seasons 555 1406 155 343 73 5 22 141 14 19 89 169 .244 .288 .350 492 (i deleted the last 5 stats because 99% of the members on this board has no idea what they are) saying that enrique wilson owns pedro is like, well it's so silly i can't really come up with an analogy for it. but seriously, we shouldn't be debating this, you know exactly what i'm saying and the only reason we are debating this is because of the yankee redsox issue. john
  7. the angels ripped them because you have never heard of a prospect? there are idiot yankee fans that say we ripped the marlins becuase they have never heard of the 4 spects we gave the marlins. it's not even as if romero is that good. relieviers are supposed to get outs, he walked about 40 batters in 60 innings, that's no good. john
  8. your spelling is awful for a 16 year old, you should be ashamed of yourself. john
  9. i looked at the stats before i even began my reply to your comment, i rarely EVER comment without something to back up what i say. 25 at bats is hardly a good sample size to say that enrique wilson owns pedro. there are so many other variables involved. like: how many runners were there on base how many runners on scoring position who was on base, where was he on base, does he have speed or not, can he round 1st to 3rd on a single? who was up next who was up after the next batter with a sample size of (if i recall correctly, 25) there are WAY too many variables to possibly say that enrique wilson owns pedro. many will say that mueller "owns" mo, i don't feel that way. a .400 average against a pitcher might be good, in baseball terms, but you need to remember (lets just pretend we're only looking at average) that the other .600 is owned by the pitcher.... john
  10. beckett95, how old are you? 13? john
  11. cora has a career obp of .310 and a .970 f% at short graff has a career obp of .336 and a .962 f% at short lugo has a career obp of .340 (.362 last year!!) and a .971 f% at short. lugo created 89 runs last year in 690 PA ave of .129 per PA graff created 58 runs last year in 414 PA ave of .140 cora created 23 runs last year in 203 PA ave of .113 as a sox lugo will be less likely to be given the go signal, he should be able to create less outs and generate more runs just based on the factor that he gets on base more often than the other two. i'm not saying i'm a huge lugo fan, i just think he's a better option than graff/cora (i'm not a big fan of platooning). as of how to attain lugo, i have yet to contemplate that. he's better than both graff and cora, just entered his prime not long ago and has really cut down his K's and learned to take many more walks. with his baserunning speed/skills he'll be about to go 1st and 3rd, something the sox would benefit greatly from, especially with guys like manny/ortiz/lowell behind him. john
  12. when someone says something stupid try proving them wrong by saying something smart. snooping down to their level and saying something stupid makes you look like a bitch. pedro martinez does NOT wet himself when he faces enrique wilson. the guy is garbage, http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5932/career . to say that is silly. pedro mostly faced wilson in his prime. he was not scared of anyone, don't you remember the 99 all star game? or were you too still bottle feeding? john
  13. bingo! morons want nomar back. yeah, we shat on him but he was such a baby about the whole issue. he left on such a sour note, he'll never come back, just like clemens. you obviously are not really a sox fan. a true fan embraces the team, becomes part of the team. for every extra million they spend something goes up in fenway. with a 150mill payroll tickets are going to increase. fenway park is among the highest priced ballparks to go to. an average day for 4 costs upwards for 250 dollars. not everyone can afford that. there are poor people who want to go see the sox too. we have shown that we don't need to sign the best players to win. a better example is the marlins a few years ago. produce your own talent, that's what good organizations do. the yankees did it, that's why they had the dynasty, they started to "buy" players and haven't produced a championship since. as for miggy, i don't see him coming to the sox. manny for miggy straight up would be very close, but the o's are not stupid. you are taking on a older player that plays a position that is more easily replaced, not to mention manny does not cover a lot of range in the field. it would essentially be a downgrade for the orioles defensively and an upgrade offensively. but is it worth the extra 8 mill they'll be spending? nope. john
  14. that's what you say when you want the competition to up the ante :-D, if they know you are willing to let them go they won't offer you as much. john
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2253019 read the last paragraph.. that's why some teams will NEVER do well. they have morons like that gming their team. he thinks soriano is underrated HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA john
  16. i'm not a huge clemens fans either but to call him the most overrated pitcher in history is ABSURD. john
  17. hanley ramirez and anibal sanchez are just a part of our farm system which includes MANY more prospects. we might have lost our top ss prospect and one of our top 5 pitching prospects but we gained THE #1 prospect in the nation, one that plays the hot corner who has a higher upside than the both of them. not to mention we got a 25 yr old pitcher than has excelled (at times) in the majors. john
  18. yeah, i know. i paused when i got to wells, but as long as he's still part of the sox i couldn't really exclude him just yet. you're not willing to trade lester and dustin but you're willing to trade marte? the same marte who was ranked #1 by baseball prospectus, ranked #4 by baseball america? at his age he is far more advanced than dustin and has a much higher ceiling. right now he's the guy in our system that has the best chance of becoming a regular in the majors, you don't trade that away for an aging ss with a huge contract (like the braves did). john
  19. yes, he's the most overrated player in baseball.. the idiots on espn drool over this guy, he's terrible! see...... he sucks. john
  20. did anyone really ever think that theo was going to just "stop" managing? all these trade smelled terribly of theo.. john
  21. how is soriano not garbage? he's the most overrated player in the game.. yes, even more so than beltran. average does not mean jack. take bellhorn as your prime example, the guy's average was a terrible .260, but his on base percentage was .360 which is above league average. i'de take bellhorn with a .360 obp over soriano's PUNY .309 obp ANYDAY ANYTIME ANYWHERE. his highest career obp was .338, that's GARBAGE. 40-40 doesn't mean s***. stealing bases is the best way to create outs. the guy strikes out all the time, never takes a walk, but just because he hit a high number of home runs he's good? soriano is garbage, anyone who knows anything about baseball knows this.. i'll put money on him not hitting more than 25 hr's, betting lower than .270, and getting on base lower than .320. i mean for pete's sake this guy hit .244/.291/.444 on the road! yeah, wilkerson hit 11 hr's, but that's at RFK, when an expo he hit 32. his obp was also .374 with the expos in 04 and .351 in 05 with the nats. not to mention he had 84 walks to his 147 ks' compared to 30'sbb to 130'sK. wilkerson himself is far superior to soriano.. i'm so sick and tired of the damn espn analyst / people drooling over soriano. when will they see that he is not this elite defensive 2b they all think he is? the damn guys OPS+ was only 110 last year in ARLINGTON!!!!! a kids ballpark. wilkerson had an OPS+ of 104, lower than soriano, mainly because he plays at RFK. wilkerson will slug over .500 in arlington and his OPS is going to be great. everyone will see how terrible soriano is in 06, i can't wait. john
  22. that's IF schilling can be schilling of 04 (which i doubt), IF beckett can pitch enough games, and IF papelbon is ready for a FULL season. our 1-2-3 is nasty (in our biased minds) but reality states that there could be some serious issues. the complete oppsite is schilling pitching 20 games, beckett pitching 20 games (both par) and papelbon having his sophmore slump. that would be a disaster, who's going to carry the pitching staff? clement, wells and wakefield? john
  23. we allready gave up sanchez, now lester too? remember people, pitching wins championships.. granted if our lineup consisted of: damon loretta manny ortiz miggy my grandmother my dead grandfather my dead gradmother my other dead grandfather that would be a nasty lineup, probably scoring 4.5 runs a game lol. i'de much rather keep manny (i really really see him staying) and develope our pitching. we've been run leaders 2 years in a row.. it's time we start preventing more runs. john
  24. palmero being tested positive for steriods means one thing. he was using steroids in 2005. it doesn't mean he was using it his whole career. not that i doubt he wasn't, but i have ZERO proof. facts hold up, assumptions don't. it'll be a shame if palmero doesn't make it, roids or not, especially is olerud makes it, which he won't. john
  25. KSUSHI- i know they are different, i just read it wrong. marte was #1 for 2005, the reason he was ranked so high is because he does everything well, but nothing exceptionally well. i'm still slightly surprised that they ranked him higher than young, who has a higher upside. either way, great trade for the sox. john
