  1. For a long time I shared that very same opinion that john has, until I heard a show about steriod use on espn radio--and it changed my mind. If you assume that every major leaguer can at the very least hit major league pitching in some shape or form...or they woulkdnt be there. Then you add in a drug that increases their power and they can hit the ball 20 or 30 feet farther. That means if you were a player with warning track power suddenly those balls are now home runs. In terms of jose, there must be some truth, but like a bad witness in a ciourtroom the guy has so much baggage that his credibility is like George Bush's you cant believe a word he says. Apparently MLB agrees and ther are no plans to follow up on any of his allegations. There is a lot of jealously on Jose's part for these guys that are still highly regarded by the fans and the press--so you dont know who he has a bone to pick with and who actually did what. I think this will blow over and jose will continue to wallow in obscurity. But like john says there must be some truth to whathe says, however,he is so tainted nobody will listen.
  2. this from a guy who raised money for himself by selling a day with jose canseco for who knows how much..over his web site. He is about as credible as pete rose. I cant imagine anyone buying this book. I cant imagine jose being able to even write a book as a matter of fact..maybe he wrote in jail with Ozzie.
  3. I have never understood the whole fuss, and as surprising as it may seem I agree with john. Thanks to the media that crappy ball is worth something now. But I do wish minky well. Luckily (thank God) pitchers and cathers report next week and we can start concentrating on the season. Hopefully the yankee intruders will disappear and we can talk about the sox in peace. The Giambi thing and the posts there make me remeber why yankeefans are douche bags-when they dont have anything to say they say we're jealous. Did we decide about game threads for spring training?
  4. speaking of spring training--look who was the first to arrive for the Mets. (from the new york post) All eyes were on the man with the red glove and the Hall of Fame arm. Pedro Martinez showed up at Mets camp yesterday morning to work out 10 days before pitchers and catchers officially begin spring training sessions. Fresh off his World Championship victory with the Red Sox, the three-time Cy Young winner proved just how serious he is about winning and his work ethic, giving the Mets the emotional jumpstart they were hoping for when they signed him to a four-year, $53 million contract. "I'm just happy," Pedro told me, noting he will be a Met for the rest of his baseball life. "I know now where I'm going to finish my career. Hopefully I finish it healthy and that's why I work so hard. "I think the new Mets are going to be a new attitude," he said later. "It's going to be a team that went from being from last place to a team that will be in the middle of the race." Third baseman David Wright, the only Met regular here, was ecstatic. "Being a young player you get a little giddy," Wright said. "You try to get a clean ball and ask Pedro for an autograph. "You watch him on TV in the playoffs and World Series, he's a future Hall of Famer who comes to spring training early and this really sets the tone for us young guys," Wright added. "This is a new beginning for the Mets." It sure is. Season tickets sales are on fire and Mets officials, including Jeff Wilpon, have gotten on the phone with fans to close deals. "It's really starting to roll now," Wilpon said of sales, adding tickets for individual games go on sale Feb. 27. "We really appreciate Pedro coming in early. He said he would and he lived up to his word." Pitcher Heath Bell, who rollerbladed nine miles to camp as part of his workout routine, was Martinez' long-toss partner. "To me," he said, "this means Pedro is really serious about his workouts." Martinez was the last Met in the clubhouse after completing his grueling five-hour regimen. As he unpacked he pulled out a pair of long johns and said with a smile about Shea in April, "I know what the cold weather is like." In Boston, Martinez once was criticized for not being in camp when he was in the Dominican, attending to his son in the hospital. As he sat in that hospital room, the TV above him blared a report that hammered him for not being with the Red Sox. "It was very scary, the anesthesia went into his system and it went wrong," Pedro said of his son. "And the Boston media, I didn't like that. It felt awful to sit in that room, knowing your family member is laying in bed there and you're watching on TV and what they are saying and it is not true. "It was always a lie that I reported late. I was always on time. One time I asked for permission to be late two days and I was given permission and I was late two days, but I reported in shape and actually ended up winning the Cy Young for them. "The Red Sox don't need to worry about me no more, I'm not worried about them. I moved on. I went out of their lives. My ex-teammates, I'll give them a call, I'll call Jason (Varitek), I'll call (Derek) Lowe, (Kevin) Millar, Bill Mueller." He smiled. He is comfortable here. "This is where I threw my first inning with the Dodgers," said Martinez, who drove to his home in Miami after the workout and will return this morning. He said he is here for the duration, although he will go back to Miami "to chill" this weekend. He plans on living close to the ballpark. Martinez will not have to worry about eating at chain restaurants. His sister does the cooking. "It's all about family with me," Martinez said. "That's why I've never been in any trouble." The Mets are his baseball family now. He's already the first one home
  5. saw this in the new york post. Figures. Watch he does great. I thought he was coming around and we should stick with him, I'd rather have him out there than say Kim....Mendoza has a chance to get to form, Kim doesnt . YANKS MAY BRING BACK MENDOZA By JOEL SHERMAN February 4, 2005 -- Having already reacquired Mike Stanton this offseason, the Yankees are negotiating to sign another bullpen figure from their championship past in Ramiro Mendoza. Yankee GM Brian Cashman acknowledged discussions with Mendoza's agent, Fern Cuza, but would not characterize the likelihood of finalizing a deal. However, Mendoza never wanted to leave, and, even while in Boston, told Yankee players he hoped to come back some day.
  6. f***....he was fun to watch I gather he is quite a nice guy...someone post any updates if they are available?
  7. I wanted to adds a thought about schilling as I just got through reading a long interview with him by jayson stark at espn. Of course, I dont agree with his politics, I mean who in their right mind could like and vote for george bush. However, I think schilling is refreshing in his accessibility, in his honesty and in his ability to articulate real answers to questions, The guy definitely answers the question without using the typical cliches, I came to play, etc.. I think he's cool for that and while I dont agree with everything that comes out of his yapper, he's ultimately fot my respect for being human about it and not a scripted clone like of some of these guys.
  8. my God, man, that injury must have been horrible. I remeber he almost was put on the world series roster, he must must be hurt far more than they let on. That salary is about as low as you can go.
  9. as much as I hate george bush, and while today is inauguartion day and the vomit on my keyboard still hasnt dried as I hear the some old lies and BS...I have to say in my book as someone here so eloquently said being a redsox doesnt mean that you're a bostonian. Brady, schilling they can do whatever the hell they wont and nobody should take it personally, once they put on that uniform they are my guys. Schilling certainly aint einstien, but if sadaam hussien was pitching for us I'd root for him. Now if george bush was a redox, I'd pray for rain.
  10. I agree with john ...stop the presses..and with els.i'm not quite sure how he can cut down on his K's maybe Pappa Jack can help him.-it always has been a problem for him, but that OBP more than makes up for it. When he had has other career year with the cubs he had 27 hr's and 144 K's but still an incredile OBP about the same as this year. I really didnt like the guy for the first part of the season but he grew on me...steady, stoic, dependable, and sometime s pretty damn clutch. Never a word out of him...just plays the game...like that. He really won the job and I happy for him.. Bronson I love and he hiope he steps up and retains a job as astarter. Another happy guy who just does his job without yapping...he seems to have heart and is steady under pressure. You need guys like this and McCarty, wake, a steady backbone on the bench and int he clubhouse, it's a good day for the sox.
  11. that 's a good one..just glad you didnt mention monte hall
  12. Here's something of interest for sox fans--I copied it off my new favorite site other than talksox..http://www.yankeessuck.com... it's a an example into the way yankee fans think, confirming a lot of things I have always thought about "them"...but I think it's healthy to understand thine enemy Those Damn Yankees By Thomas Fitzgerald Lancaster Bureau Chief Date: Jan 15, 2005 You've either been raised to love the Yankees, or hate the Yankees. In Arizona, we tasted the sweetest of victories, it still seems like yesterday, we beat the Yankees. Defeated the Evil Empire. It happened again last season, when the Red Sox finally broke 'The Curse.' They, as always, are back, and they've taken the greatest Diamondback in history. Lancaster Bureau Chief Thomas Fitzgerald, a proud, life-long Yankees fan is smiling, and he wants you to smile too. His offer? 'Join Us.' If you appreciate the sarcasm and humor in the question,"Who has home field advantage in The World Series this October, the National League representative…or the New York Yankees?", then you are a bona fide 26-time World Series Champion, New York Yankee fan. Thank you, Commissioner Bud Selig, for putting meaning behind the All Star game and writing a joke in the process. Brilliant! The Yankees are to baseball what the United States is to the world. Follow me on this one. When you’re number one with no close second in sight, it is axiomatic to earn the scorn of the have-nots…is it not? What other organization in Major League Baseball can lay claim to appearing in one out of every three Fall Classics and being home to one of every four World Series trophies? Understand why you love to hate the Yanks and you begin to understand the ire directed against our beloved nation from many overseas. Like the lesser among us worldwide, you love the barrels of money the evil empire brings when they come swaggering into town in their entire splendor. Hosting a three-game home stand against the dreaded Yanks means a full house. A full house brings a full parking lot, long concession lines and plenty of peanuts, programs and crackerjacks sold. A stadium filled to capacity gives owners fat wallets. The Yanks are cash cows spreading the wealth league wide, perhaps at a stadium in a city near you soon. The Yankees are tradition, the origin of dynasty and the benchmark for franchises to measure up against and it irritates many to no end. It is mostly envy, if you level with yourself. The fact of the matter is it would signal the year of Jubilee if your team had an owner willing to spend what it takes year after year to field a solid, competitive team as does Mr. Steinbrenner. Your team rebuilds…the Yanks contend now. Being a Yankee fan means never going into spring training questioning your club’s chances in the fall. And boy oh boy, is that ever nice! There are two ways of earning your pinstripes and embracing Yankee fandom. The first way is aristocratic…you’re born into it! That is the category I fall under. Being born into a New York City family is baseball royalty. We know it…you know it and you hate it…and we know that too. Being a Yankee fan means not having to worry or get embarrassed because your team blew a historically insurmountable three game to none lead in a best of seven series against a dreaded rival, because we Yankee fans are secure in the knowledge we have just as good if not a better chance of being right back in the thick of it next year. What other team can so assuredly make that statement? Perhaps the Atlanta Braves, but their reliability goes out the window with the arrival of the post season. Take a moment and reminisce back to the moment of "The Great October Choke of 04’." As Yankee haters, have you ever been so happy to see a team lose? You were probably thinking how it couldn’t have happened to a nicer team. Being a Yankee fan means being able to laugh when, immediately after the aforementioned choke, friends barrage me with email informing me the new international medical symbol for choking has been amended and has been replaced with my beloved NY insignia that adorns the caps of Yankee players. Being a Yankee fan means recognizing "The Great October Choke of 04’" and the subsequent Boston Red Sox World Series victory is nothing more than an act of God. You see, God, being the compassionate and benevolent God that He is, must have figured enough is enough and concluded, where’s the harm in a Red Sox championship every 86 years or so? I know this because He scheduled a lunar eclipse (once in a blue moon is far too frequent for a Red Sox championship…apparently even for God) to coincide with the miraculous event as His signal the Red Sox victory is an unusual episode that will not soon repeat. The alternative option available to becoming a Yankee fan for those of you unfortunate enough not to be New York bred is to hop on the bandwagon. We Yankee fans will not disparage what others may consider a choice of convenience. Instead, we openly recognize the wisdom behind the decision wishing to forgo the futility inherent in being a...Diamondback fan for instance, and welcome you into the family with open arms. After all, everybody wants to be part of a winning team. And now is the time to join that winning team. So please raise your right hand and repeat after me… "I do solemnly swear allegiance to all things New York Yankee. That I promise to ridicule and belittle the accomplishment of any other professional baseball team and state unequivocally my pledge to believe in the inferiority of all other championship ball clubs, their franchise and their meager history. That winning one out of every four World Series establishes entitlement and if another team wins in our stead, it will be viewed as a fluke. That I recognize that year in and year out, it is for the good of baseball the New York Yankee organization spend like hell and whereas the Yankees shall continue their winning ways and dominate Fall Classics for decades to come, I will insist it isn’t because of Steinbrenner’s money, it’s because other teams don’t try hard enough and money has nothing to do with it. That I take this oath freely and without reservation, for the betterment of America and all things baseball." Yes, we Yankee fans are loud, proud and often times obnoxious. But face the truth…you love to hate us and a baseball season just wouldn’t be the same without those dreaded Yanks and their winning ways.
  13. blah...blah..blah... yawn. I'm not even arguing with you...so frankly, I dont know what you're talking about, but that happens so often with you I am not even going t o bother trying to figure out your point..you keep pissin and dissin, it seems to be something you're particularly good at...
  14. "hating a yankee fan doesn't make you more of a sox fan than anyone. knowing more about the sox makes you more of a sox fan." I am more of sox fan than you are..nyah..nyah....that's what you sound like... You cant honestly believe the stuff you write..can you?..I hope not for your sake. No wonder all your friends are yankee fans.
  15. I loved jim rice when he played and he was spectacular and one of the greats, but unfortunately there are certain numbers you need these days to get in the hall...Unlike kirby puckett who didnt have those numbers but had the sympathy thing, rice just doest have something 3000+ hits or over 400+ homers. The more glitzy stats that hall of famers generally have. I think his relationship with the press is an excuse that really isnt plausible. I mean steve carlton was not a very nice guy but he was great and he got right in. The fact is jim while a great player will always be a 60% type of hall candidate as much as it pains me to say it.
  16. johnny damon I would forgive-immediately, but of course, he doesnt do stuff like that... I am bias towards everything that has to do with the redsox, and bias against everything yankee-so sue me. as for whether you think some one is conrtibuting--who cares? What I am sick of is hearing what people like you are sick of...again who cares. The only thing I care about as far as all this BS is concerned is that the sox win, as for your opinions there are often amusing and somtimes interesting to read and that's it. But just because you say things it doesnt mean you're right and lately I have taken it upon myslef to call that out...again, if you disagree -I dont really care. Your polticcs are awesome though. you comments about knowing a player is ridiculous. I dont care if Randy Johnson cures the common cold or gives money to the mayo clinic-all admirable. I'm sure he's a sweet lovable guy but now he's a yankee and he sucks becasue iof it. Once they put on the pinstripes I hate 'em, what's wrong with that. I rooted pedro when he was a redsox and now he's not-so screw him. Schilling I root for now all the time , the fact that he was for BUsh, aside, he is on the redsox and that's all I care about. Get off your high horse, and stop whining...the yankees and their fans suck..the redsox are the champs, and it's as simple as that. If you are so sick, see a doctor, I hope he's a redsox fan they make better doctors. .
  17. well put, my ass. I am sick of hearing from yankees fans, nothing they say interests me, and they do not contribute to this site. Randy Johnson siad he was sorry. Come on, we all know the guy is an *******. It was his first day and he got pissed over nothing. I hope it coninues though, and that he is miserable. What is going to make him and the yankees miserable is that we kick their asses again. Well put? Take this and put it up your ass!
  18. can we include some fans on this list or does it just apply to players?
  19. in howard cosell voice: down goes yankeesrule...down goes yankees rule...down goes yankeesrule.
  20. the redsox had a fine off season, and the yankees did too. The proof will be in the season. speaking of worrying about what the other team is doing. Um, dude, you're on a FRIGGIN SOX TALK SITE. maybe..I for one wouldnt be so quick to attack the yankees if their fans would leave us alone. You guys will be good, you've bought yourself another fantatsic team of overpaid spoiled *******s, now go back to new york and leave us alone. Who the f*** is Randy Johnsons's dentist-he certainly isnt spending his money on dental hygiene! see you next october--now go away.
  21. did you ever think the yankees might be putting spin onthe situation??? Boras called the yankees 16 times huh...did he leave a message everytime he called, did he use fake voices so they wouldnt know it was him, did he hang up when they answered so he didnt think he was being over anxious.. Bubba Crosby and brittle bernie...bring that combo on---that's rich...
  22. wow what a collective sense of amnesia--you guys in your love for that greedy slime pedro--seem to forget his constant bickering and lashing at the emdia... "all he ever did was talk to them" Huh, what planet were you living on at the time--Uranus? He wwent a whole year giving them the silent treatment, because they were being too hard on him. If your worship a guy get the facts straight , he was dick, a hall-of-famer to be sure, but a dick too. speaking of dicks I am still cleaning the vomit off my keyboard after looking at the picture of RJ..
  23. the yankees are smart, come on...how can you even say that... the yankees are full of s***, have any of you ever considered that beltran might not have wanted to play for that ********** george stienbrenner. the yankees are just trying to salvage some pride out of this, after being one upped by the mets. Not everyone is as greedy as pedro and the unit-less one. Mayeb just maybe beltran wanted to play in new york, but not with yankees. The yankees are better with bernie than beltran, please...
