Oh my god, I cant stop laughing...this guy makes kevin brown look like gandhi.. what a big *******, I cant wait til he has a bad outing and the press asks him about his age or an injury he'll explode into little pock marked pieces.. BY MIKE CASEY NEWSDAY.COM January 10, 2005, 2:34 PM EST If today's actions are any indication, Randy Johnson has a lot to learn about dealing with the New York media. The Yankees' newest acquistion engaged in a heated exchange and shoving match with a CBS 2 cameraman Monday on Manhattan's Madison Avenue. Johnson, who is expected today to clear the last hurdle in the blockbuster trade that sent him from the Arizona Diamondbacks to New York by completing a physical exam, was confronted by the cameraman on Madison Ave. between 58th and 59th streets as he exited a building, accompanied by a Yankees security representative. As the camera rolled a few feet away from the 6-foot-10, 231-pound Johnson, he reached out to block the lens. "C'mon man, I'm just taking a picture," the cameraman pleaded as the security guard attempted to intervene. "No pictures," he warned him. As the tape continued to roll, Johnson became more agitated. He appeared to shove the cameraman while brushing past him and grumbling "Get out my face!" "C'mon Randy, I'm just taking a picture!" the photographer repeated. "Don't get in my face, and don't talk back to me!" Johnson scolded as he continued to try to block the lens. The security guard again intervened, hurrying the 41-year-old lefty away as the cameraman stood in disbelief. "Welcome to New York!" he shouted after Johnson, who by that time was about 20 feet away with his back to the camera. For the Yankees, it was an unwelcome flare-up of the dark side of Johnson's surly, stoic personality. Although his intensity has helped him become a future Hall of Famer on the mound, it has also cultivated the perception that Johnson is unapproachable and unfriendly in the clubhouse. Boston Red Sox ace Curt Schilling reportedly asked to be traded from the Diamondbacks last winter in part because he and Johnson despised one another. Monday's incident is particularly untimely for the Yankees because they are expected to introduce Johnson at a press conference either today or tomorrow. Such negative publicity, particularly for a team that has always placed high emphasis on its players being media-friendly is certain to create a stir among top Yankees executives. Those same executives worked tirelessly for months to complete a trade for Johnson, whom the Yanks had coveted since he asked to be traded last summer. They finally reached a deal two weeks ago, agreeing to send righthander Javier Vazquez along with a pair of prospects and $9 million to Arizona for the big lefty. As part of the deal, the Yanks also signed Johnson to a two-year, $32-millon contract extension. Johnson brings a career record of 246-128 along with a 3.07 ERA and 4,161 career strikeouts to a pitching staff that fell victim to injuries and underperfomance in the second half of 2004.

This is from the POst: BIG JERK By MICHAEL MORRISSEY January 11, 2005 - The day before his official initiation at Yankee Stadium, the Big Unit acted more like a big jerk. In a bizarre scene witnessed by this Post reporter, the notoriously ornery Randy Johnson physically confronted a Channel 2 cameraman yesterday morning while walking on Madison Avenue. I have always said that this guy would implode in New York, but I I had no idea it would be before the season even started! what a jackass, well, he'll fit it nicely on the Yankees. !

speaking of Kim I just read this in the Herald... So while there is virtually no chance Kim will ever again pitch for the Red Sox - signing Kim to a two-year, $10 million deal remains Epstein's biggest blunder as Sox GM - the Sox may very well take the pitcher to spring training, at which point the market for Kim could improve depending on injuries and performance in other camps. I guess the only question now who will be our first baseman.. Myabe we go to spring training with both and make them fight it out.
-
before we look at predictions I just read this on my new second favorite website.. http://www.yankeessuck.com- "I for one am glad he went with the 41 year-old guy with a history of back trouble who plays every four days, than the 27 year-old every day player who seems to shine when the leaves start to fall." I predict johnson will implode with the media, I predict the mets will regret signing pedro in a big way. Lowe willdo well in LA.. I will cry with joy when they rasie the championship flag at the fens..

give me a mCcARTY any day of the week. I'm glad he's back. He'll do anything you ask him to do, and he plays his heart out. He might not have the same skills as some other guys but he has more heart certain guys will ever have. the pitching is just an added bonues, I love dave--welcome back bud.

Redsox Off Season Vs. Yankees Off Season
sarasoxfan replied to sarasoxfan's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
once again-- a yankee fan has appeared and made an absoulte fool of himself.. Rarely, do yankee fans have anything interesting or accurate to contribute...they are arrogant, argumentative and almost always wrong. I guess the owenership and the fans have quite a bit in common--they are smug arrogant bully's- or in a word *******s. With that said there is no question at all that the sox bullpen was vastly superior to the yankees bullpen...as was our starting rotation. I guess it depends on the criteria you use to define "better", but in the long run the better bullpen was the one that won the world series, as oppposed to the one that contributed to the biggest choke in the history of baseball. -
I just saw this in the globe and frankly am not surpirsed. Minky is dead man walking.. "The Blue Jays, who need a righthanded-hitting first baseman and DH, talked to the Sox about Kevin Millar, but the sides didn't match up, and one FOK (Friend of Kevin's) insists the Sox will move Doug Mientkiewicz, in the interest of clubhouse karma."

I still find it very hard to believe that anyone would want kim to play for their team, maybe to work in a 7-11 or something but hey if they want him and theo can get rid of him, I say dont let the dorr hit you on your way out! This from benmaller.com Even with the holidays over, the Rockies are still shopping, exploring the possibility of trading for Red Sox reliever Byung-Hyun Kim and signing veteran Robb Nen to a minor-league contract. The Rockies have reshaped baseball's worst bullpen by adding several hard-throwing, if not unproven arms, but remain empty-handed in their search for a proven closer. Armed with an odd sidearm delivery, Kim, who turns 26 this month, ranked among the National League's best closers from 2000-02, converting 69 saves, before bottoming out last year in Boston.

I dont think I am quite ready to call Francona the man, but it was interesting to see some of the s*** that goes on behind the scenes. I would imagaine there were probably a million incidents that happened, howqever and I dont think it is too amazing that what happens in the locker stays in the locker room...I mean I give the points to standing up to some of the *******s but there isnt a manager in the big leagues that runs to the media with every thing that happens behind closed doors. I am reminded again fo what a dick pedro was and I hope the Mets have fun trying to baby sit that infant

way to go yeszir!! the new site looks great, very snazzy. now if you can get rid of the yankee fans---things would be perfect. anyway, thanks for the site and good choice for the new one. phil

I think the yankees have improved, but they are still vulnerable. Their bullpen aint much, and their starter rotation is an injury away from being what it was last year. Martinez is old and is a slight improvement over olerud, et al. let's discuss from the nypost: January 1, 2005 -- WHETHER it's Big Unit or small details, the Yankees have improved their roster going into 2005. They landed their No. 1 target in Randy Johnson and made at least minor upgrades in several other areas. And since these are the Yankees, they might not be through. Carlos Beltran is still available, and if the Yanks sign him some time early in the new year they are going to be considered even more grotesque for taking their payroll into the $230 million range and something close to unbeatable. Beltran, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Tony Womack would give the Yanks four players who finished in the top 18 in steals last season, and Beltran just might be the most cagey thief ever. Beltran, A-Rod and Gary Sheffield would give the Yankees three of the majors' top 15 homer hitters last year. Even if Jason Giambi did not come back, the Yanks would be able to offer a lineup in which eight players hit at least 21 homers last year. Nine switch-hitters hit at least 21 homers last year and three are named Carlos Beltran, Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada. Plus Ruben Sierra (17 homers) still may come back for the bench. Add three righties (Jeter, A-Rod, Sheffield) and three lefties (Tino Martinez/Giambi, Hideki Matsui and Womack) and you have the kind of balance that further threatens the majors' balance of power. Yet even without Beltran, the Yankees, to date, have elevated their talent level. In the field, Martinez and Womack are at least a slight improvement on John Olerud/Tony Clark and Miguel Cairo. Mike Stanton has diminished from the reliever he was in his first Yankee stint (1997-2002), but is still a far better option than Felix Heredia, C.J. Nitkowski or Gabe White. Felix Rodriguez is a workhorse like Paul Quantrill, but with strikeout ability. Rodriguez is clearly more reliable than neophytes such as Bret Prinz and Scott Proctor, who tried to do the job last year. Can the Yanks expect a full return to effectiveness by Steve Karsay or that Tanyon Sturtze, who pitched with such confidence and quality late last season, really has turned a career corner? A positive result with either will only further enhance a more trustworthy bullpen. Johnson obviously comes with great risk at age 41 with a suspect knee and a boorish makeup. But the Yanks are the now team of all-time. In 2004, Johnson was one of the majors' five best starters. The Yankees had no one in the top 20. The Yanks are a tough transition for anyone; even Roger Clemens struggled his first year. But Johnson's aura should make it easier for others in the rotation, particularly newcomers Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright. Are Johnson, Pavano and Wright better than Javier Vazquez, Jon Lieber and Orlando Hernandez? Yes, mainly because of Johnson and the uncertain health of Hernandez. Pavano and Wright carry terrific stuff over from the NL, but we were saying that last year about Vazquez and Kevin Brown. The Yanks invested $61 million in Pavano and Wright, and will be fortunate if one handles the switch to Pinstripes with excellence. Which means the Yanks will probably — amazingly — be back in the rotation market come July. Imagine how grotesque and unbeatable the Yankees will feel when they trade Eric Duncan, Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang for Ben Sheets.

well, he did hit 300 in 03 and 306 a few years ago, so maybe your right there is potential.. I think we can do better than either of these guys though.. But I still think Millar is liked by management and given a lot of credit (right or wrong) for motivating and energizing poeple. I would shocked if they unload him and keep dougie.
-
hahah. I cant believe there are still people who think Kim has some potential. He has thrown out his arm and I dont care if he's 25 or 15 he stinks. Sure he was okay before we got him or we wouldnt have gotten him, sure he's young, sure he has potential-I mean who doesnt..Yankeesin05 has the potential to be smart, but clearly that isnt going to happen in this lifetime. But the good news is that if some of you think he has a chnace maybe there is a sucker out there who will see something in this guy as well--okay then maybe we get a one legged batboy, a used condom, a tampon and an aging sarter.
-
you missed yankeesin05 acting like an idiot. You missed his inability to figure out how to stop typing in all caps. You missed redsox fans pummeling him with interesting quips and stats and basically just another day where redsox fans proved again why they are superior.
-
no chance to develop? He is washed up as it is, his fastball comes in at 82 and goes out at 100.. As I have said we would be lucky to get a one-legged bat boy, a used condom, and a tampon for that stiff.
-
billy is the man, he was injured for a lot of last season and still contributed in a major way when he was in the line-up. I cant even imagine how you can mention him in same breath as bellhorn. 3B is solid..christ the guy won the batting title in 03... I bet ya they trade youk, because with billy healthy youk will have to go to pawtucket... I'm with you Mueller 11...billy is fine by me.

no way...the current ownership is just fine... Objectively, I dont think I could root for a george team, where colorless, drones are thrust together and money is thrown around all over the place. It is obscene and is bad for baseball-they pay more in luxury taxes than the entire payroll of the Devil Rays! but getting back to some earlier comments, what is really cool is that no matter how much they spend and no matter what carpet bagging android they find, we are the current champions..and red sox rooter you're the man!!! Oh and I thoguht I'd mention this little stat I found on a very cool site...http://www.yankeessuck.com (clap, clap, clap)... bring it on....!!! Randy Who? By JoeDavis Big Unit's career record vs. AL East opponents Team W-L ERA Red Sox 8-6 4.41* Orioles 5-7 4.36 Devil Rays 2-2 2.70 Blue Jays 13-4 2.38 *Highest ERA against any AL team.

first base all the way... someone should mutate millar into minky--combine their strengths and that would the guy. as it is, minky cant hit, or hasnt hit both during his time with the twins and with us... Millar--well, fielding isnt his strong suit.. I think we need to have a bat at first and I cant understand the affection for minky....all leather no wood, just dont cut it. trade 'em both.

yankees suck clap clap clap you darn right and than ks for admitting it- schillling is light years away from RJ's status.. speaking of sox fans, we are indeed the greatest... In the spirit of this thread talking about grumpy I thought you guys might like this article from the New York Daily News...While it doesnt have anything to do the Unit-less one...It does show the pride. Curses! Red Sox fans in NY are taking license with plates SCHENECTADY — After 86YRS, the 04BOSOX finally won the World Series, meaning the dreaded Curse of the Bambino has, at long last, been REVRSD. If it still hasn’t sunk in for Yankees fans, just take a closer look at the New York state license plate on the car that might have passed you on the road today. As they would say in Boston, ITZOVA. Boston Red Sox fans across the Empire State have let their true colors show since their team swept the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 in late October. The Sox clinched their first World Series crown since 1918. In the first month after the team’s historic Oct. 27 victory, 99 vehicle owners in New York registered new vanity plates bearing a message about their beloved Sox, according to a list compiled by the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Nine others got a standard plate with the Red Sox team logo. There’s a FENWAY (a tribute to the team’s ancient ball park in Boston), a BYENYY (rubbing it in the faces of Yankees fans, no doubt) and CHMP04 (isn’t that one obvious?) There’s also kudos to individual players: MANEE (slugger Manny Ramirez), JASVK (catcher and team leader Jason Varitek) and PAPI34 (clutch home run hitter David Ortiz). Don’t be fooled into thinking the state is awash in Red Sox red. At last count, there were slightly more than 10,000 license plates devoted to the clean-cut Yankees, compared with just 356 for that scrappy, long-haired team from New England. Schenectady County Public Defender Mark Caruso, a native of Waltham, Mass., and lifelong Sox fan, saw a vanity plate a couple years ago at the mall honoring pitching ace Pedro Martinez. “I saw that and said if they ever win, I’ll get one,” Caruso, 37, said. Sure enough, after the Sox won the Series — Game 4 happened to fall on Caruso’s birthday — he paid $68 for a plate with a Red Sox logo that reads REVRSD. In Red Sox lore, the team had been cursed ever since it traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees after winning its last World Series in 1918. Reversing the Curse became the dream of legions of fans. Friday is the last day drivers in New York can get new “picture plates” with an out-of-state baseball team’s logo because the licensing agreement with Major League Baseball is expiring, according to DMV spokesman Joe Picchi. (To order, go to this website, visit a local DMV office or call 518-402-4838). Personalized New York state license plates will continue to be available at a cost of $50, plus registration fees. Denise Baker of Schenectady got BYBABE on her 1995 Jeep Wrangler. It’s the latest salvo in her intense but friendly rivalry with her neighbor, Charlie Hebert, who loves the Yankees. “I just wanted to get ’em so I could get him good,” the 50-year-old Baker said. Randy Tyx, a metal industry sales representative who lives in a suburb of Buffalo, suffered for years as a fan of the Red Sox, football’s Buffalo Bills and hockey’s Buffalo Sabres — teams that have crushed their fans’ hearts year after year. “I was oh-for-my-life until this,” said Tyx, 48. “I have three boys who are Red Sox fans, too. Every year I would apologize to them.” His oldest, 22-year-old Jason, is a weather forecaster for the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Fallujah in Iraq. During the World Series, Jason woke up at 3 a.m. to watch the games on TV and would e-mail his father every night to chat about what happened. Tyx drives a company car, so the vanity license plate he chose ended up on his wife’s 2003 Chevy Cavalier, which just happens to be painted in “Red Sox red.” After toying with a few names on the DMV Web site they came up with ITZOVA, a play on a true Bostonian’s pronunciation of “It’s over.” “We get a lot of compliments on it,” said Tyx, who is thinking about making his first-ever drive to Boston in the car to see his team play at Fenway Park. That is, if he can score tickets for next season.
