  1. Actually it should be Claudio Arias, but he swings at too many pitches to ever make it to the big leagues. I'd compare him to Tony Batista right now.
  2. From espn.com That's why people can steal off him. If your pitchers can't hold people on, then the hell if the catcher can throw him out.
  3. Manny is a terrible defensive left fielder, but the fact that he plays half his games at Fenway will cover up his defense. I don't know what the hell you're talking about when you say Nixon is a bad defensive RF. Nixon posted a plus 7 FRAA rate as a RF last year. (Vartiek was a +2.) Youkilis was just average. (He did put up a +8 FRAA combined as a 3B). Schilling couldn't throw his splitter, because he couldn't push off his ankle. But when he can get into shape, and comfortably throw off that ankle, watch out.
  4. Once again, not a great telling stat. Ask any scout in baseball, and they'll tell you Jason Vartiek is a gold glove catcher. He has a rocket for an arm, and he does have extremely quick feet. You can't possiblily say that Vartiek is poor defensive catcher.
  5. That deal still wouldn't get done. Look at it terms of a broader perspective. 1. The only way the Brewers trades Lee is if their out of playoff contention. 2. If they do fall out of contention, why would the Brewers want a forty-three year old who will retire after the season. An outfielder who can't stay healthy, and who is also a free agent. Plus a prospect, whom right now has no more upside than probably a fourth outfielder. Throw in the fact, that Nelson Cruz, a Brewers outfield prospect, is a much better player than Moss or Murphy.
  6. Wells has no choice where he goes. If he's dealt to the Mets, then he's dealt to the Mets. But, you are absolutely correct about the Mets not pulling the trigger on that deal.
  7. Sure, the Red Sox would jump at it. But c'mon, there's no way in hell, Melvin trades Carlos Lee for just that. If the Red Sox wanted Lee, we'd have to give up Lester. That probably won't be a tempting enough deal for the Red Sox to pull the trigger on.
  8. It'll go: 1. Yankees They'll unlesh their style of blitzkreig, on the hapless teams with no pitching (Devil Rays and Orioles.) They play them 38 times, so write them down for 38 wins. Maybe that's too high of an estimate, but the Yankees will dominate any team that just has average pitching. They'll probably win 100, because as we've seen in the last two years, offense wins in the regular season. 2. Red Sox The Red Sox are more prepared to win the World Series than the Yankees are. The Red Sox have an way superior defense than the Yankees do. Plus, the Red Sox pitching has much more depth. Nobody should write off Curt Schillng, he was throwing 95 mph last year, and that's when he couldn't push off his ankle. He's also been able to stay active this offseason. I'm guaranteeing (probably spelled wrong) he puts up an ERA below 3.50 this year. 3. Blue Jays They'd be in first if they didn't trade Hudson.
  9. Given the Yankees massive market, and even more revenue streams, the Yankees can afford to put him in left field or DH, when he no longer can play CF. The Red Sox probably could still manuever around Damon's massive salary, but they would suffer in the field.
  10. Yeah, and if you look at the date of my post. I stated Jackson's name before Baez was traded for him.
  11. I don't think he'll retire, but he will be traded. Theo's doing an outstanding job playing for leverage. If one of the Dodgers, A's, Padres, etc.. pitchers gets hurt, then you could very well see David Wells headed west, for a good package.
  12. Crisp doesn't have the arm to play right field. Hunter's defense has slipped since he was the human highlight film of 2002. I'd rather wait a year, and sign Andruw Jones, but I think Crisp in center, and Lee in right would give us the premier offense/defense combo.
  13. This guy is our RF in 2007. Go 4 years 40 million. This guy would rake at Fenway.
  14. I think he's a better option than Kapler is. He hit .274/.349/.558/.907 vs left handers last year. And the last three years overall .261 .345 .470 .815. More power than Kapler, and could serve as a lefty masher off the bench. Not a bad signing.
  15. Lopez is a SS correct? I don't believe the Reds would be inclined to trade one of their top young players. Kearns might be on the chopping block because he's always hurt, and is close to free agency. But, hey if we can pull that off, I think it would be an incredible deal.
  16. In the perfect world, that would be true. We don't know if his numbers from last year are the comings of a trend, or just a one year faze. I don't know if he was hurt, but if he was, wouldn't the Marlins DL him?
  17. How many of you guys would pull the trigger on the Clement for Kearns deal?
  18. Doesn't he call some NCAA basketball games?
  19. I don't see why the Red Sox don't go after Micheals. He plays pretty good defense, and has shown the ability to get on base throughout his career. He wouldn't cost nearly as much as Coco Crisp, and he would do a serviceable job for us for '06.
  20. McDonough? He'll never be back. He ripped Red Sox ownership a few years back, and they cut him loose. They'll likely go with Remy/Orsillo for the whole year again.
  21. I can see where you're coming from, but I don't agree. Marte, if not given a physical would not really hurt the Red Sox that bad. Marte's injury problems are just rumors, and nothing's been confirmed. Throw in the fact, that he's 21, has a world of potential, and with our advances in medical science, sitting out a year wouldn't hurt the Boston Red Sox that badly. Mota, however, is a major league ballplayer making a pretty good chunk for a middle reliever. Being a middle market team like the Guardians, I'd be extremely wary of pulling the trigger on an injury prone middle reliever, whom I'm happening to be paying 3 million for.
  22. I won't even respond to that.
  23. Why? Griffey hasn't played 130 games in almost five years. I think Christopher Reeve might be a better defensive centerfielder than Griffey is.
  24. Why are you so bitter toward Johnny Damon? He's done nothing wrong. He got a better deal to play for the Yankees. I mean c'mon, if you were Johnny Damon you'd do the same thing.
  25. Not for England, he pitched for the Cardinals. I think he was born in England, but don't quote me on it. (It may have been Australia)
