  1. Are the terms of his contract known, like does he have a no trade clause?
  2. Reported on WEEI that Houston will make an announcement today that they are signing Rogah.
  3. Lester wasn’t considered because he already pitched on Saturday.
  4. Well, I'm not saying it is absolutely necessary, but the bottom of the rotation is definitely not working flawlessly, and if this solidifies that while not hurting the pen too much, why not? But by moving Paps out now you're definitely weakening the pen. And like you said, the end of the bullpen is already unstable. Why make it worse? Edit: for some reason the 'quote' feature is f***ed up...
  5. Isn’t it almost too late to be experimenting, especially with something (Paps) that’s working flawlessly?
  6. Is Coco batting in the leadoff tonight?
  7. I wish the article would name their source, but it's no surprise to me either he's going back to Houston.
  8. There's an online article on Newsday.com that claims Clemens will sign with Houston, possibly as soon as today. (Note: the sources aren't named.) http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-sprog0530,0,6890705.story?coll=ny-top-headlines I posted this before I saw the other thread...oops!
  9. I’m thinking Tito thought the game would go into extra innings and so he didn’t want to use Foulke until at least the 9th. Since Timlin wasn’t available, the call went to Riske, to face the bottom of the Jays order. He had already gotten great relief work from the rookies, Seanez and Tavarez not available from yesterday’s game, Foulke and Paps being saved for the 9th and beyond, so who else, other than Riske, was left in the pen to be used? Judging by Tito’s seldom use of Riske since his return from the DL, I’m thinking he has lost confidence in Riske. Obviously tonight’s outing didn’t help Riske’s cause. In hindsight I probably would have brought Riske in yesterday’s game when it was 5-0, to give him some work then.
  10. It’s been a while since the 9 players in the starting lineup are all the ones the Sox had intended to be as starters. I’m guessing that Coco isn’t leading off because they want to ease him back with a lower spot in the order. It’s probably temporary, although why mess with something that's working quite well (Youk leading off)?
  11. I’m trying to be positive… This would be the perfect time for Matt to break out of his inconsistency and have a good solid game, despite the David v Goliath match up on paper. Almost everybody is ready to run him out of town and this game very well could be pivotal in whether the Sox management will stick with him for the rest of the season. But to be honest I’m kind of looking at the game with the same anxiety and trepidation that Matt seems to demonstrate when he’s pitching from the stretch.
  12. My memory is a little foggy, but was Schilling acquired from the DBacks via a trade? It would be “nice” if all teams, regardless of payroll, had an equal shot at building a championship team but with free agency, greedy agents, no salary cap, and cheapskate owners it will never happen in today’s MLB. With that said I hope Theo doesn’t hesitate in spending whatever it takes to get Roger here.
  13. I’m guessing that part of his “dead arm” could possibly be attributed to playing in the WBC without having spring training to warm into the season. (Note: In part I also blame the WBC for Varitek’s offensive struggles this season.) But in a weird way I think it’s good that the injury happened now and the Sox are proactive in resting him now and not letting him just play through it. I’d rather see him rested and not used now, late in May, so his arm will be fresh for the late summer/early fall months. He’s an extremely important part of the back end of the bullpen.
  14. Like that's going to happen! Actually the offensive production from 1B (Youk) has been exceptional so far. No need to tweak that unless Pujols REALLY did become available somehow.
  15. I basically look at a baseball season for a contending team to be broken into three parts, but you might disagree: April-May: Evaluate and assess what your players have to offer. Look for various strengths and weaknesses. June-July: Improve and fine-tune the team. Make any necessary changes, adjustments, and trades by the end of the trading deadline 7/31. August-September: Battle and fight to the end, and hope the changes you made over the prior two months work out. So now that June is only a few days away what changes would you concentrate on if you were Theo? If I were Theo I’d definitely be looking for a bona fide starter now, not just another league average innings eater. I think what we’ve seen over the past few weeks that the perceived depth of the starting pitching back in early April has considerably changed.
  16. The 9th inning implosion brought back bad memories of the Closer By Committee Era from a couple of years ago. I’m not sure if today was just an aberration but would anyone trust Seanez’s reliability to be used in a 9th inning situation?
  17. I cant criticize Tito for not sending Wake out for the 9th. The bullpen should’ve had no problem with this. If they can’t hold a 5 run lead then something is truly wrong. At least he had other pitchers warming before Seanez really went crazy.
  18. With Clement pitching tomorrow it sucks the bullpen was unnecessarily taxed today.
  19. And Tavarez vultures a save!
  20. If the bullpen blows this one for Wake I‘m going to mail a dead rat to Seanez.
  21. This game is quickly becoming a nail biter
  22. Seanez walks 2 and MDC warming in the pen.
  23. Props to Wake for 8 strong innings today on a day where the bullpen has been depleted.
  24. The fact that Youk played in LF yesterday shows that Tito has a lot of confidence in him and is making every effort to ensure his bat stays in the lineup.
  25. Youk is having a great season so far. Why do you think he'll be used less, now that Crisp is healthy? They'd be brain-dead to bench Youk now!
